Haha as much as I would have used to hate the idea of LOtR mechs. At this point I would take it and buy a a dozen just to get some Gondor minifigures. Anything to get a cheaper LOtR set. I would even pay the license tax for it and pay $16. Quote

Was expecting maybe one of the best sets off all time with a lot of animals and minifigs, instead we got a decent set restricted by budget with one goat and few minifigs In this set I expect Gandalf in the horse-drawn carriage, but maybe some hobbits tending crops, vegetables and maybe a pig and a couple of sheep if we are lucky like in the movie: Someone previously leaked the Disney castle as having ‘at least’ 8 minifigs, and it came out with just 8, with one being a repeat. These leaks do build a lot of excitement and discussion, but sometimes it can also set you up for a big disappointment. Quote

wesker Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 The Shire as the next LOTR set sounds exciting but I still can't help but feel disappointed Gondor is once again on the backburner with no Faramir or Eowyn in sight. This is why we need smaller sets that can focus on other neglected areas of the franchise. I'd love for the set to include characters from the Hobbit (even if its just the five main dwarves like the BOFA sets) but I expect the minifigure selection will be based strictly on the LOTR trilogy. I bought aliexpress versions of the Iron Hill dwarves and Gondor soldiers, plus a Sauron and Witch King. I think I paid about 80c each. I bought them just for the armour and helmets. I'm not a fan of the minifigure prints so don't use heads, torsos or legs, but if you are painting the accessories they are still cheap enough. Quote
Darth Shadowthrone Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 I can understand Bag End being a sole set for the Shire - there’s not enough screen time for other parts of Hobbiton to warrant sets and I could see this set including a green area outside for the cart and a tent for the party scene Im really hoping we get more sets for 2026 - Lego set approvals can be quite sluggish but just like for dnd they should see the appetite for more and therefore increase the amount of sets they make. Either that or we get a full-fledged castle theme at long-last Quote

Don’t get me wrong it’d be amazing if the Old Gaffer’s hole or the mill and bridge were to be made I just think it’s unlikely, In terms of minifigures the mouth of Sauron is a good example of the potential for obscure hobbits in the new set Quote
hikouki Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 I wonder if in future sets, Lego will continue to make unnamed minifigs that are clearly a reference to characters in the original trilogy. Gloin in Rivendell is an example. In the Lego designer videos, the designers said that the was just a 'dwarf'. Hoping they make Celeborn and Gil-galad eventually. Quote

Well because he wasn´t named in the movie they couldn´t name him in the Set. But yeah, everyone knows who it is supposed to be. Quote

AFOLguy1970 Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 An Unexpected Gathering is definitely my favorite Lego set of all, even edging out the Galaxy Explorers. With that said, I kind of wish they had gone the route of Gondor. It seems like the best way to do Hobbiton or "The Shire" would be to make it in microscale like they did with the big Hogwarts Castle. You could still have some minifigs in front of the display with some exclusive ones such as Rosie and others. I am not sure I would pay hundreds for an updated minifig scale Bag End with maybe a tent and party tree. I also fear they might create a Bag End with a couple of other watered down structures such as the tree, Bagshot Row, the bridge, the Green Dragon, etc. separately in the same fashion they did the big Star Wars Assault on Hoth set that disappointed many. A microscale with all of these things together on one build could work aesthetically, but again, you could only really have a few token minifigs to display with that. Of course I will withhold judgment until I see it, but this will really depend on what the approach is. Quote
Roebuck Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 On one hand micro-scale would make sense, but on the other hand they made Barad-dur at least semi minifig-scale. While the Hogwarts sets is great I personally have not much interest in micro-scale, it is the minifigs, animals etc and sets for them that are most interesting I find Quote
Something_Awesome Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 You guys think LEGO will give us a Smaug again? Would be another mold, or a very big buildable form? I was looking at the Ninjago Source Dragon build, and it's quite sturdy. Got me to thinking, LEGO may never give us a molded form of him again. Perhaps release him as a standalone $200 set with some figures? Quote

The dragon in the big D&D set isn't 1:1 with Smaug, but I think any future iterations of Smaug will probably look like that - possibly some cloth for the wings, but mostly just bricks. The old one had a lot of custom molds and was pretty fragile, so I'm less included to think they would go back to that. Even most of the molded critters in the Jurassic Park theme have little movement to help with their stability. That being said, I do miss the molded dragons - I'm glad I got several of them growing up, because they're all very expensive on Bricklink nowadays - and that's nothing to say of Smaug! Quote

Still early. I am GUESSING it will be Bag End, in which case it will have less pieces and be cheaper. Though was my speculation from the start, even when the initial rumor said it would be a Shire set. Quote

At this point it does seem unlikely, since I think we will get LotR-Sets for now, since that is just more popular than the Hobbit - If they would choose to do an other Hobbit Set however, the Erebor seems like the most likely option - and actually it is a set that would greatly benefit from a bigger version. 1 hour ago, JohnTPT17 said: Even most of the molded critters in the Jurassic Park theme have little movement to help with their stability. Not sure if stability is the main reason here. I mean the less parts they need the cheaper production gets. I really favour the raptors etc. with movable legs over the ones that can only move their jaws. Also adds more playability to the sets. 1 hour ago, JohnTPT17 said: That being said, I do miss the molded dragons - I'm glad I got several of them growing up, because they're all very expensive on Bricklink nowadays - and that's nothing to say of Smaug! Yeah the moulded Dragons, especially the Fantasy Era ones were great. Brick build Dragons, might look good too, but they ususally need a bigger size than the molded dragons had to really look good.
