Yeah, I would think it is very unlikely that they will make a moulded Balrog. For that he is just too big.

Smaug is huge too in the Hobbit movie, but it did not prevent Lego to make a moulded version (which I happily own).

The nice thing about the moulded dragons and Smaug is that the have the smooth organic shapes but a lot of articulation.  Whereas big figs like Hulk and cave trolls are much more rigid and less posable. The new brick built Creator dragon looks good as a Creator set but I don't think that such sets fit so well with what has gone before.

Another possibility might be like Jun-Chi from Orient Expedition, to create a large figure with molded head and possibly part of the torso but with wings and fire attached to the body.

Now I'm picturing a reskin of hagrid into balrog, and can't stop laughing

Well noone said they couldn´t do it. They are actually still doing it for Jurassic World, but probably if they did Smaug today it would also be Brickbuilt. Personally I wouldn´t mind a moulded Balrog. Just don´t think it is that likely - but surely not impossible either.

I think it's because a trusted leaker made a 2025 "hype video" with various teasers of upcoming sets, one of them being Gandalf saying You shall not pass!

So now people think we are getting more LotR sets than just Shire. (Which is hopefully true, because fans who don't want to spend hundreds of euros on a set should also get something.)

I do love large molded creatures. But I’m also really loving the recent trend of brick built creatures with a new molded head and wings, like the Ukrainian Ironbelly in the Gringotts set. I do desperately wish they would bring back wings like Smaug’s though. They were amazing. I’m not a fan of the fabric wings or Avatar plastic ones because one side always looks unfinished. There should be wings on a ball joint with a hard plastic base and rubbery movable membranes just like Smaug’s

Leakers often try to do this for franchises they aren’t familiar with. It could be that whoever it was only knows that line and associates the movies with it so they used that to further tease the Shire set. Who knows. Leakers don’t make sense sometimes. I certainly hope there’s actually something there

Tandnbricks is pretty reliable. I really think he got this one

It makes sense that this is the set they'd do. I'm so pleased they chose Rivendell first, as it's such a good set and beautiful model.

I wonder if/when they'll do the other large locations? Good news that a smaller set will come, and I hope it's not more BrickHeadz, but either a cool diorama or a good playset with new figures.

So, if we're going to get two LoTR sets next year, they're both going to be a bit cheaper, right?

Right?!

Bag End is said to be $250-300 :classic:

The other set has to be buildable Balrog I guess? Unless they're doing a diorama or something ^^

Around half the size of Rivendell? I can see that. No reason for it to go above $300. Excited to see what else is in store!

LEGO Icons: 10354 Bag End D2C (April 2025)

The Lord of the Rings will also get another Icons set sometime next year.

Nice to have a set number! Can't wait to see price point and piece count. If it's just Bag End, that'd be great. However, if it's Bag End + some of Hobbiton... might be nice, unless that bloats the price.

Also, Brickfanatics reports Rivendell won't be retiring until at least the end of 2026. Great news for anyone worrying about an "early" retirement and what it might mean for the future of LOTR LEGO.

That's good news as I don't have Rivendell or Barad-Dur yet.

That'd be relieving to hear, because I remember the first rumours mentioning a 400€ price point.

Did you get this from clay (the leaker)? I hope it's not just fully speculative on his part, I'd love to see a LotR D2C with a lower price point—especially since it's my favourite location in the movies, and I might want to buy it.

As for the second set, I'm afraid it might just be a buildable figure or an object. I wouldn't get my hopes for a diorama, or anything remotely similar.

I am disappointed too as I already own the previous Bag End. But hopefully at this price range it will be bigger and include more of the Shire. In any case I will buy it, as I have bought every single LOTR set so far (except the ugly BrickHeadz of course, which do not count)

Understandable if you already own it. The previous model came out over a decade ago, though, and I did not have a chance to pick it up so easy buy for me this time around. I'd imagine this will have a greater level of detail than 79003, but we'll see.

I'm curious if it will be a new version of "an unexpected gathering" (The Hobbit), or from "The Fellowship of the Ring" (Lord of the Rings)?
Very important for the kind of minifigs that will be included.

I imagine it will be LOTR rather than The Hobbit, given the last few big adult sets have been LOTR.  Either way, I'll be skipping it as I have the original and that fits nicely on a shelf.

I do hope it's LOTR themed and not Hobbit, or a blend of the two. It would be far better for the budget to go on the build and/or unique figures from the Shire that we wouldn't normally get. A dragon firework and Bilbo's birthday party would be fun to include, although at this price they'd have to do it as separate components rather than on a single base, so it may be outside their design scheme.

Why?? The old one was a nice set but it’s in serious need of updating and upscaling

Super happy to have more confirmation about Bag End! Obviously another day one D2C purchase. I do hope the rumored Balrog set is a Bridge of Khazad-dum diorama style set and not just a big brick built Balrog, although that would still be really cool. I just don’t want them to already be going the “random brick built creatures and stuff” route that they’ve been going with HP, Marvel, and Star Wars
