BrickBob Studpants Posted January 5 Posted January 5 (edited) Huh, I wasn‘t even aware of the issue with brown pieces until now! Luckily, I was already in my 20s when the sets got released so they‘re all in good condition Still gotta inspect them tho! The only issue I had with brittle plastic was with the Z-95 Headhunter, also from 2013. I dropped that a couple of years ago and some of the dark red pieces shattered as a result. Hope that‘s a thing of the past! Edited January 5 by BrickBob Studpants Quote

They have done play features in adult sets, the fairground collection especially Haunted House is probably the best example. But that sort of fits with the theme. For LOTR I imagine they will continue to do display sets with hidden Easter Eggs if you move something rather than proper play features. Quote

It isn´t that uncommon for them to also include play features in adult oriented sets though, The Lion Knights Castle has quite some of those. But I do actually think that he was more referring to getting actual smaller Sets again. Quote

In this case price is much higher, so we might end up with lots of minifigures and smaller piece count for such a set. The issue isn't the price, but the licence (the other sets are lotr) as well as the question, if it would be popular. They have enough to fill the set. Old Bilbo, Gandalf, Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Rose, the old guy with a broom, who laughs and then gets an angry look by his wife, his wife..., a few of the party guests... especially Bilbos relatives... if they include a little party tent, they can put as many characters in it as they want. Also the Option of the experienced adventurers coming back in Gondor and Rohan armour.... Quote

Also the Option of the experienced adventurers coming back in Gondor and Rohan armour.... There is also the issue of time. Previous Hobbit sets were plasets aimed a kids issued when there was typically one minifigure for every approx 80 parts in mid range sets. That ratio still is about right for smaller playsets although for mid range I think it is more like one figure per 120 parts. But for adult display sets with minifigures, the focus seems to be more on the build than minifigures and the ratio jumps to about 1 in 200 or 250. I cannot see them putting lots of minifigures into a mid range set (which is equivalent to a top end set of a decade ago), especially where new single-use parts are necessary. Quote
TheDoctor Posted January 9 Posted January 9 (edited) I never understood why they gave Sauron grey hands. Finally updated mine with the Dark Pearl Grey hands. Updated the mace and cape too (I understand the use of the single hole cape because any other cape would get squished beneath the helmet.) The cape does make him look larger and more intimidating. Was hoping that the 1x1 plate had been made in Dark pearl Grey to add to his feet and give him some height, but that will have to wait. Still waiting for a recolour of this D&D mace piece for Sauron to use. Edited January 9 by TheDoctor Mace image Quote
Altair1 Posted January 10 Posted January 10 (edited) I maybe overly cautious, but personally I will not take the risk of damaging my precious Sauron minifig just because the color of its hands is not perfect... Once you take off the hands of a minifig they often become loose forever and tend to turn or even fall when holding things (especially a large mace like Sauron's). Edited January 10 by Altair1 Quote

Never happened to me, especially on the newer minifigures. Hands are safe to take out. Quote

Yeah, I can't see any problem, if anything the wrist joint is stiffer than before! I don't mind, I don't plan on selling it, and it's only going to be posed once and left in that position. We should be able to customize it to our liking as much as we want! Where is that specific cape from? Quote

Part 86038 I tried a plain black cape, but it didn't look right. His cape is actually pretty tatty and worn in the film and other merchandise. Quote

My Nazgul custom wears that cape, might have to offer it to Sauron instead))) Quote

THELEGOBATMAN Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Wonder what will happen when the new movies start releasing, including the Gollum one. Probably might be enough to warrant more than just a single D2C set that year. Quote

It was a great idea to turn three LOTR books into three movies. They had lots of content. It was an awful idea to turn a short single book into three movies, because there wasn't sufficient content and (to me) it felt like they had to expand things too much and add in a lot that didn't really contribute a lot to the main story or the overall experience. That in turn caused it not to be nearly as popular. And so LEGO got burned by poor merchandising sales. And we lost LEGO LOTR for a decade. I hope history doesn't repeat! Edit: I read this as three movies, which sounds like a bad idea. Nine suggests you are joking? Clearly it's too late for me. Please say you're joking! Quote

THELEGOBATMAN Posted January 17 Posted January 17 LMAO no, obviously the nine movies part was a joke. Right now we know only that they are doing The Hunt for Gollum, a single movie, and then they are also preparing another, separate movie too. Two movies in total, unconnected to each other. https://x.com/DiscussingFilm/status/1847280177589465438 Quote

Thanks for the clarification. I really hope the hunt for gollum is good. Good movies seem to be hard to find nowadays. Edited January 17 by zoth33 Quote
