RichardGoring Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 Alternating years with a UCS set and then a diorama would feel more sustainable and something you could do a lot with and continue for an extended time. Although it would be terrible for army building anything. Quote

Although it would be terrible for army building anything. The problem with alternating between the two is it stretches the line out for far too long. Just on the UCS front you have a number of potential sets in Barad-Dur, Minas Tirith, Orthanc, Helms Deep, Edoras and Bag End. Fans shouldn't be expected to wait 12 years just to cover each of these core locations. Having yearly releases like the Winter Village and Modular Building sets would be much more feasible across a 6 year period. There's also more than enough material for dioramas (or other display pieces like buildable creatures) to co-exist alongside the large D2C sets. The Balrog, Eowyn vs Witch-King, Balin's Tomb, Amon-Hen, Mirror of Galadriel, Mount Doom, Mumakil, Argonath, Weathertop and Osgiliath are just some examples of iconic moments that aren't going to work within the confines of a highly expensive UCS set. To also stretch those releases out for well over a decade (or to ignore those scenes entirely) would be a huge mistake. On the army building front they could always trial those Shop@Home exclusive blister packs but they'll need to tie in with the larger D2C releases. After all it wouldn't make much sense to release a Rohan Soldier battle pack if they're not going to have a modern Helms Deep set to display them with. Quote

Legoman123 Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 Are we actually expecting this theme to carry on or is there still no news on that front yet? I’ve been away for a little while I trying to catch up on all the themes I follow. Also over my time off I managed to get hold of Rivendell brand new and sealed for only £290 so I dropped on lucky there. Quote

At this point I suspect that LEGO themselves may not know. They've had less than six months of sales data and only recently given it out to third parties. We know from the leak that they've already got Barad-dûr designed, but how far into the process are they? Is it a pure concept and needs to go through testing? Have they done testing and they're just waiting for the production green light? It's easy to stop at any point before production begins and it's a somewhat minor cost to them. They aren't bound by a specific future release date either, so no pressure to make a quick decision. Quote

I’ve got a friend who invests in things, mainly online but the one physical thing he buys is actually lego. He’d got one and knew how much I loved Lego so said if I wanted it for £290 he’d sell it me for that. I did buy him a couple of beers later on though as well.😂😂 Quote
Lordhelmet Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 How many sets of a CMF line would you buy? I would buy a minimum of four complete sets, probably would buy six or seven. This is assuming that it is all unique characters, if there is something to build an army with that number would go even higher. Same thing for battle packs, I would buy 10-20 each for Gondor, orcs, Rohan, Uruks. Would consider going higher depending on quality and content. Quote
neithan Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 I would buy exactly one CMF line and 1-3 battle packs, depending on the price and discounts. I really love LotR, but I don`t like Lego prices and I also have other interests (Lego themes and hobbies beside Lego). Still waiting for a better discount before I'll buy Rivendell... 70€ isn't enough.^^ Quote
Moexy Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 One complete CMF line for sure; depending on the quality and armybuilding potential, dozens (wallet will be a limit of course). Quote

neithan Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Here in germany I use the site idealo.de, where you can browse for any set (and of course non-lego stuff^^). About three or four weeks ago, I found the set for 430€ at a german online shop. Right now, you can buy it for 450€ at lucky-bricks, including shipping. Better than anything Lego can offer, at least for me. But because the price was as low as 430, I have high hopes that one day I can grab it for 400€. :-) Quote
unclejeffie Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 425 on amazon.de right now.. ill jump on that. in the process of making the gw mesbg in lego Quote
dimc Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 How much would you pay for a used but complete with box and instructions copy of Rivendell? Just gauging thoughts on that pricing, as someone local has one and I'm considering it but it's still a big outlay. Quote

So long as excellent condition and complete. Quote

I hadn't heard that rule, but it seems solid. Gives a bit of leeway in case you need to order parts. I suppose it's best to confirm all minifigs are there, since those are likely extremely expensive. If it is a small set, I'd go slightly lower. If it is a set frequently discounted I'd go with 65% of the usual selling price and not RRP. I also find it works when selling. I'd usually go in at 75% but things typically sell when a bit lower than that. Although I rarely sell used sets when they are still current. I usually only sell once retired, but even then they typically go for about 60-80% of the current new price so long as the sets are not vintage wherethere is a huge premium for new and sealed. Quote

Yeah, I don't foresee discounts on Rivendell for a while, so it seems decent. When I sell, it's all vintage stuff, so I usually drop 10-15% off the BL price, somewhere between the asking and previous six months. MSRP means nothing when decades have passed. Quote

I'm very thankful that I don't collect Star Wars stuff, the market for that is nuts. Mostly I aim for stuff I wanted as a kid, with a few other interests (like LOTR or cars). Then things like Barracuda Bay or Eldorado, which slot nicely into the old themes. Quote
