So Barad-Dur is confirmed for 2024 now?

$400
4,000 pieces
Sauron, multiple Orcs, Frodo and Sam (Orc disguise)

Microscale exterior, Minifig scale interior (like Vader's Castle)

No, not confirmed. That is a round up of speculated sets.

Well, we knew to half-expect it.
Where did the price and piece count come from?

I believe it came from the original survey leak. All subject to change between then and release, if it does release. Minifig lineup too. I definitely hope the set does happen, but I think the design needs some improvement from the leaked image

If Lego decides to stay only with big location sets, then the next one must be Helm’s Deep (good guys again); after that it’ll be the Orthanc.

But the LOTR theme would benefit immensely by introducing affordable (!) diorama sets of various sizes every 6 months. 300$-500$ sets or even more in the future even if they are excellently designed, that's just too much. The bridge of Khazad-dum or the Witch-king/Eowyn duel would be my favorites.

I still see absolutely no reason why they shouldn’t try regular sets again. The possibilities are endless. The notion that LOTR only appeals to adults is complete BS. Think of the amount of people that are adults now that love LOTR. A lot of those people are having kids now. You really think their kids aren’t going to grow up surrounded by it? My kids are an example, and I know many others in the Tolkien community with kids who love it as well. Kids. Love. Fantasy.

@Balrogofmorgoth very good point .. take note Lego 😁

On a little side note .. and I know they’re not official sets but LegoMocLoc has some new beauties .. the White Council and my favourite new one Grey Havens .. heavily inspired ( in his words ) by the new Rivendell set .. it’s beautiful 😍

As 2024 news starts coming in, I’ll be very impatiently and nervously awaiting anything to do with LOTR. Fingers crossed for an actual wave of sets in 2024.

Agreed, I have been checking too much since the Star Wars stuff started coming out looking for news for 2024.  Finger crossed for some actual sets and one battle pack or CMF line (icing on the cake).

Battle packs are so perfect for a LOTR theme it’s not even funny. A CMF series would be absolute perfection and I would probably buy multiple cases of them but I doubt that will ever happen unfortunately

Maybe dioramas like the ones they have for SW!

After Barad-dur, I wonder what could be next?

For me Barad-dur was something I always wanted for LOTR but I never thought we’d see, so in all honesty I wouldn’t mind what came after, and let’s be honest there’s so much choice for big D2C sets.  imo the big D2C sets are the way to go, maybe 2 per year with both been priced similar to the SW UCS sets (one a lot cheaper).

If I had to choose something though, it’d be a set based around the Golden Hall in Edoras.  If I remember rightly there was a project on Lego Ideas some years ago that reached 10k support for a golden hall set.  Given there isn’t too much around that area we could get a very movie accurate Golden Hall and surrounding buildings.

I agree, (on both) but specifically battle packs and LOTR would be a perfect match.

There have been a lot of leaks lately and no LOTR.  Hopefully we hear something soon given all the other product lines that have leaked over the past few days.

With the Icons prices leaked, none of them could possibly be Barad-Dûr. So yeah I’m nervous for LOTR

I'd prefer battle packs to a CMF series, if only because battle packs tend to be a little more generic whereas CMF tend to be specific characters.  Although of course battle packs only work if they have other sets in the same theme, so we'd need more sets, probably smaller ones to use battle packs alongside.

Looking at The Simpsons, Harry Potter, DC, Marvel, .... if we ever got a Lord of the Rings CMF series then I imagine we'd get Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Boromir and Gandalf, Saruman, an Uruk and an Orc, all in similar outfits to the originals and the repeated versions from Rivendell. And I'd not buy any of them.

What if we got the fellowship like this though - Merry in Rohan gear, Pippin in Gondor, Aragorn with crown/ end scene gear, Boromir in Gondor (from extended edition), Frodo and Sam in Mordor, and Gandalf the White (I know one was done before but they could improve on it).  I got nothing for Legolas and Gimli though (maybe arm printing to up the game).  Saruman with the multi colored cape, Gothmog for the orcs, Witch king, there are a lot of super detailed things we could get that are different enough, not to mention all the characters we don't have.  (I agree Battle packs would be my top choice, but they would need other sets to go along with them.  I would prefer to get all of these characters through sets, but would love the detail a CMF line would provide).  I have made a habit of sending Lego feedback to do a LOTR CMF line whenever I am asked for it.

Legolas could have his coronation outfit or just the tunic like he wears in Lórien

I also think that if they did CMFs, it would be a lot of repetition. Battle packs and small dioramas would likely offer a greater range, with the ability to army build for suitable figures.

With The Rings of Power and War of the Rohirrim we get TWO Middle Earth shows in 2024! I think Lego could easily pick 12 figures for a CMF line that wouldn't include the characters from the fellowship!

They could, but they wouldn't. They'd go with the main cast.

Having said that, I was surprised what they did with Marvel series 1 and 2, so you never know, they could do it based on non-movie characters.

It would be nice to be wrong!

It is not that they cannot come up with other characters but that they'd pick the main characters again.
