I'd ask for an Osgiliath play set. Orcs, Gondor soldiers, a proper fell beast, ruins, row boats, etc...

...FARAMIR...

Yes please! They need to use the Dragonborn Paladin's armor for the Gondor soldiers!

Agreed, Gondor please,  and more new things!  We have a good Helm's deep and Bag End (I know and agree UCS styles would be even better) but let's get something we haven't had before with Gondor.  I am all for Gondor soldiers, Tree guards, Faramir, Rangers, Witch King, Trolls, etc.  I would even like a Donathor with tomatoes mini fig before another helms deep or bag end (I would like a party tree with some proud feet or Farmer Maggot though).  I would also be good with Edoras or Lorien.  Lets get some Gondor though.

I think Osgiliath would make a fantastic spiritual successor to 9471 to pair with a large scale Minas Tirith as a battle pack of sorts that still stands on its own. It could be a small section of ruins with an orc catapult or something, I would prefer it to be on the cheaper side to make army building possible.

Agreed that the Fell Beast needs a remake though, the GWP wings aren't held on very well and at least the head absolutely needs to be a specialized part.

Has anyone got a link to a moc Barad-dur combining two sets together?  I'd like to know if snooze has done it and if they've modded the interior at all as well?

https://rebrickable.com/mocs/?q=Barad-dûr has a number of "backs" but they seem to recommend not using two sets as you need more rock at the back so the usage from the second set is in the 25% range.

Okay, thank you.  Personally I'd like to see a height extension with the same dimensions as the throne room.  I feel it looks a little too weird going straight up without a bigger/taller 'middle' section.  I don't know if that makes sense or not?

replaying Lego LOTR and I really want Edoras set to get the theoden before and after encountering Gandalf versions in minifig form.  Plus the printing on horses would be awesome.

How reliable is the leaker saying that there's gonna be smaller sets next  year with the DTC? Also am I going to hell for kinda hoping they're all based on the Hobbit movies (Exclusively the Legolas, Alfred and Dol gul dor scenes) with one from Gollum game just to megabluck with people

I have been wondering the reliability of those leakers.  I have not heard of them before but I keep seeing the YouTube videos and some posts that they are doing smaller sets next year.  My guess is that they are just guessing and hoping to hit on a very possible scenario.  The “leaks” seem early and there is no strong track record from what I can tell.

Sounds like you are proposing a battle pack comprised of Legolas, Alfred, Gollum, and the necromancer.  Could be a big seller.

Right, shame

Only if Gollum has the fuckass hair from the game + is completely glued together in the box (you must pay extra to get 6 iconic posed figures inspired by the character Gollum)

I'm really glad Alfred wasn't in the Battle of five armies wave because if we lived in a world where he, like most of the one off figures from the original run of this theme, was ~20 quid at the lowest I think I might have ended it all

I have no interest in anything that depicts any of the battles.  Give me Castles, Inns, Hobbit houses, anything elvish & I'm good.  The orcs creep me out so I don't want any of those.  That's why Barad-dur was a pass for me although the tower is awesome looking.

Maybe we just need a whole CMF of gollum inspired characters.  Like Gollum Legolas, Gollum Alfred, etc.

They should do a CMF just of all the dlc characters from the Lego hobbit game. Vacation Saruman, baby Gimli, bouncer troll, it would fly off the shelves

I've not been keeping up with the LOTR thread unfortunately, but could anyone let me know if the unnamed orcs in Barad-Dur have been discussed? Do we know what kinds of orc the olive green or medium nougat varieties represent?

In the original sets, dark tan was a mordor orc, medium nougat a gundabad orc and olive green for the moria orcs.

Anyone think double points and a Majisto's Workshop are a good deal on Barad-Dur or do you think I can wait and do better? Not in a rush. Just want to get it on the best deal possible! :-D

The battle at Helm's Deep gave us a great castle set and an expansion pack. The Battle of the Five Armies also gave some useful castle parts although it was rather small and a lot of parts dedicated to the siege engine.

In the original wave, the dark tan ones were the Isengard worker orcs and then they just got lazy and reused them for all other orc soldiers. We never got proper orc soldiers until the new Barad-Dûr set.

In the movies, other than the green ones in Moria, most orc groups have a huge variety of appearance and colour so they could really be from anywhere.

Specifically though I think the olive green ones in Barad-Dûr are from Cirith Ungol (the ones who take Frodo from Shelob's lair) while the orangey ones could either be from Minas Morgul (the ones who siege Minas Tirith) along with Gothmog or from Mordor itself (like the ones at the Black Gate) as they look the same in the movies (same plated armour).

If you want Majisto's workshop, then yes, probably. In the US, I've not seen Rivendell discounted at all. You may have better luck in Australia. So it really depends on what GWP you value most. November/December usually has a good set of stackable 2x points and GWPs, but you may not want them.

I bought Barad-Dur and another set recently from Lego Certified Stores. If you have one near you that is a way that you could get a better discount. They have a deal where you spend $800 and get a $200 voucher. My way of managing it is I buy $800 worth of sets, and then next time the deal comes up use the $200 voucher to pay for part of the $800 worth of sets I get. This is how I normally buy my exclusive sets which don't get a Big-W / Target  / K-Mart release and therefore aren't often on special. It kind of works out to 20% off, plus the additional 5% due to the points you earn.

Note that for this deal you can't use points towards the $800 so I normally find sets to a bit over $800, use points to get it as close to $800 as possible, then use the voucher from last time and cash to buy the set. Hold on to the voucher and repeat next time.

The last deal was a few weeks back though so you might need to wait for the next one, but Barad-Dur won't be going anywhere just yet. At the last one I got Rivendell (and Batman polybag as $799.99 isn't $800) in one transaction, Batman Skyline and Eldorado Fortress in the next, and then Barad-Dur and Viking Village (using points to get down to $800) in a third. Barad-Dur was paid for with $400 worth of vouchers from the first two and cash for the rest. So ultimately spent the majority of my year's Lego budget, but got around about 20% off plus VIP points. The last $200 will either be used next time the sale pops up to get the exclusive sets, or else I may use it at the Christmas double points and GWP to get the Christmas sets for this year.

I should note that Barad-Dur by itself won't qualify for a $200 voucher in that deal - you would get a $100 one - so you do need to add something else. At the $700 mark you get a $100 voucher plus VIP points. Still a better discount (around 12% plus VIP points), but if you actually want Majisto's Workshop then you might as well go for it.

Haha

all jokes aside my ultimate dream set for Lego LOTR is a CMF line.  I would love so many other sets, but premier minifigures with unique pieces that would be accessible to buy multiples of and get my kids is my top wish for Lego LOTR.  Seeing HP, Marvel, DD, has shown how awesome a LOTR line could be with that detail and special parts.

Those sets came out during one of my dark ages.  If I recall the Helms Deep one was rather expensive at the time.  Had I been buying LEGO back then it probably would have been Pirates of the Caribbean sets but those were out of my price range too back then.

It was fairly good value in the UK at £100, but also regularly available at 30% off. It was the big set of the range and reasonably expensive for a LEGO set at the time, but nothing compared to what soon happened to set prices and sizes.
