Modal Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 Since LOTR is coming back, should we not move this thread over to Licensed LEGO sets? Kinda weird it’s in the historical themes Quote

In fact if Zelda does become a while theme and not a standalone set, then I'd argue it should go here too. Quote

PotC hasn’t been around for years so I don’t see how that’s relevant. Quote
sahidko Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 The discussion thread for original LOTR/Hobbit wawes was here as well, why move it now. Just leave it here. Quote

I suppose if I think about it, the thing is, that currently Lego has more licensed themes than not. That makes licensed too broad a subtheme. Not that I'm actually suggesting it but we could regroup it. Historical and fantasy - with castle, LotR, Harry potter, Zelda Elves Superheros and hero teams - with DC, Ninjago, monkie kid and marvel Imaginative themes - with creator, cmfs and Dreamzz Daily life themes urban and rural - with city, friends, trains, and the modular buildings. Explorers and seafarers - with Indiana Jones, Pirates, Johnny Thunder and PotC. Seasonal and spooky themes - monster hunters, winter village, Chinese new year, Bionicle themes - with Hero factory and bionicle Icons and misc : with icons, ideas and misc themes. Now that was just a hypothetical, and restructuring the forums would probably be more trouble than it's worth. But if we were making Eurobricks today, maybe that's how we'd sort the themes. Quote

Balrogofmorgoth Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 Honestly I don’t see why it shouldn’t go under licensed themes if it actually returns. If it doesn’t there’s no point Quote

(Edit : but the why it shouldn't in my mind is because licensed themes subforum is already crowded since more than half of Lego's current themes are licensed) Edited February 4, 2023 by Agent Kallus Quote

Kinda weird it’s in the historical themes It isn't weird. LOTR was here before they made sets. It stayed here when they made sets. LOTR builds are of interest to medieval builders and vice versa. Leave it here. It has been named in the description of the historical forum for over a decade, even when there were no sets on shelves. Quote

Whilst RoP didn't quite live up to the Jackson films, it was still enjoyable and I'd get sets from it if they were made. My only concern about getting ROP sets is if they come at the expense of getting more product from the original trilogy. Last thing we need is Eowyn, Faramir, Gondor and the Witch-King getting neglected again. Quote

THELEGOBATMAN Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 All of those sets (the Brickheadz and the Icons Rivendell) are LotR sets, but none of them are part of the LotR theme. Quote

Like them or not, they aren't based any other media. I'm not a fan of the star ward +4 sets, but there's no denying they are based on star wars. And the balrog is cute. Quote

Balrogofmorgoth Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 I don’t generally like Brickheadz but I had to get the LOTR ones Quote

I disagree with that reasoning. Them not releasing something doesn't mean they would've created something else in its place. It's like arguing that if they ditched Star Wars, they would do Star Trek instead I'd also prefer more LOTR or Hobbit sets over ROP, but it's not like TLG pits them against one another. 21 hours ago, Modal said: Since LOTR is coming back, should we not move this thread over to Licensed LEGO sets? Lordhelmet Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 (edited) For LOTR collectors, does owning the brickheadz matter for a complete collection? I say yes but am not sure what others think. Also do hobbit sets count toward that, or is it separate from the LOTR lego? So do the hobbit sets count to be considered owning all of the LOTR sets? Just curious what counts as a complete set. Just curious what counts as a complete set. Having a “complete collection” can be whatever you define it to be. If you’re talking about the technical definition of owning every Lord of the Rings set, then the Brickheadz are included, but I’m sure there’s a lot of people who want to collect every LOTR play set. I personally don’t care about having a complete collection, since for one that’s completely unrealistic, and two I don’t care to own figs/sets that look bad or aged, nor do I care about owning duplicates or owning any non-play scale sets. Plus since I can’t afford every set, I have to pick and choose which sets I like more. Edited February 5, 2023 by QuiggoldsPegLeg Quote

My own definition is probably different than others. For example, I would say I own all of the lord of the rings Lego’s. The reality is that I do not own all of the hobbit sets (most of them just not all of them). I also do not own promo stuff (like the comic con giveaways) or the brick built sword. I do count the brickheadz as lord of the rings because it is something that can be purchased in the lord of the rings theme on Lego (hobbit was a different theme in the store which is where I make the distinction). Just curious what other definitions are out there. 1 hour ago, kuzyabricks said: I mean technically yes if you want a "complete" collection you need all the sets :) Agreed Quote
sahidko Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 Until now for me it has been all playscale LOTR/Hobbit sets, no promo stuff and no BH going forward. Plus for each LOTR set i eventually added 1 sealed copy as well (excluding Orthanc) but did not do the same for Hobbit (no plan to do it in the future either). Quote

You buy what you like and don't buy what you don't like. They are brickheadz sets, so anyone wanting to be complete when it comes to minifig sets can choose to collect those and ignore the brickheadz theme. For example, I consider my collection complete even though I don't have the Dimensions sets. Quote
