Whovastron Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 I’ll happily eat my words, turns out that leak was legit then. Mad Quote
Altair1 Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 It is just perfect!!! I am so happy :-) Day one purchase obviously!!! Quote
Wardancer Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Whats with the open floor with the yellow thing inside??? Quote

I understand both are low res, I understand the distortion from reflection off a curved surface, but there are 100% trees next to the purgola that are not in the teaser render. No matter if it's the reverse angle or just left/right flipped. They very well could be in the final build, but I can tell you they are in the leak and NOT in the teaser. Could just be artists decision in what made the teaser render look best. In any case its not a huge deal, but I cant abide people telling me I cant see what I can plainly see. 15 hours ago, mtrsteve said: Lemme try once more. The trees in the leaked image were taller than the pavilion. They would be clearly visible in the silhouette against that bright circle in the background regardless of distortion. So we are getting those trees then Quote
Alegrispa Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Well, there it is. Not loving all the figures. I especially dislike the new Elf hair. But it is a nice set. Quote
kuzyabricks Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 I'm gonna bricklink the original faces for some of the characters. Don't like all the reuses they have 1 minute ago, Alegrispa said: Well, there it is. Not loving all the figures. I especially dislike the new Elf hair. But it is a nice set. It looks decent on everyone but Legolas Quote
Alegrispa Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Just now, kuzyabricks said: I'm gonna bricklink the original faces for some of the characters. Don't like all the reuses they have I had the same thought. Also, Aragorn is not in travel gear, so I'll have to get that figure as well :/ That and Legolas hair especially. Quote
sahidko Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 What a great set, can't wait to build and display it! Quote
Lordhelmet Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 I also see a mithril shirt, plus the new prints look excellent. I really don't think Lego could have done this any better. The scenes inside, the minifigs look great, the new weapons (and Boromir shield) look excellent. I already knew this was day one, but wow they knocked it out of the park. Quote
Brickity Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 (edited) This is magnificent, wow. I have never bought a UCS set before, but this will be my first for sure. It will look so good displayed. Regarding the minifigures, some are great revamps (most of them, I think) while others are very questionable (Not fond of legolas, they did Arwen dirty with that face) EDIT: I’m shocked at the printed slopes so minifigs with skirts can sit! BacktoBricks Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 There's no denying it's a beautiful set, but I just can't help but think this is a real example of Lego prices gone crazy. I know it's licensed, I know there are a lot of minifigures, but I don't see over £400 worth of value there. A lot of the piece count is small pieces and it looks quite small in size terms. With Diagon Alley for instance the piece count is slightly lower, but you get a long street and some quite large pieces and baseplates etc and the price is less. An unpopular opinion maybe, but this feels like it's taking advantage of all those desperate for sets and minifigures from this license and that takes the shine off it for me. Hats off to the designers those because they have done a great job, Quote
Lordhelmet Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 (edited) I have a spare Haldir from Helm's deep, I might just swap their (new Legolas) hair out. I think the new hair would fit that character better anyway. Edited February 7, 2023 by Lordhelmet Quote
Alegrispa Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 (edited) Lol, they gave Frodo additional pieces so he can sit. Gandalf and Elrond as well. It looks like they've created a new weapon accessory pack like for Ninjago sets. With that and Aragorn not being in his most recognisable outfit would make you think there are more sets on the way, and 5 years ago there may have been. But now I don't think so and I can only say; what a shame. Edited February 7, 2023 by Alegrispa Quote
MAB Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 (edited) I think my favourite part has to be the chairs made from sausages and a lolly. Will they supply a tool to align all those 1x1 tiles? I'm pleased the minifigures are different enough from the originals to distinguish them. I'm not sure they've necessarily improved on them though. The Hobbit legs are great. Merry and Pippin look a bit goofy with those big grins and teeth showing, but at least they will be double sided heads. Boromir still has orange hair although his beard does seem to be a bit darker, and Gimli joins him fresh from the hairdresser with his new orange beard. Bilbo looks good. Legolas looks weird, I don't know what it is about him but I prefer the original one. I also don't like the brick built legs to get Frodo to sit, but that is easy to avoid. Lordhelmet Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 lego.com says 3/5 for early access orders. Quote
mtrsteve Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 The little armory room appears to have several new weapon moulds! Very promising for more sets to come! Quote
Alegrispa Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 (edited) Promobricks say they haven't heard anything about exclusivity or a GWP. So no news and good news. EDIT: Brothers-Brick says there is a GWP, but it's just some Brickheadz, lol. Edited February 7, 2023 by Alegrispa Quote

I hope we get more sets from this franchise going forward. Quote
Follows Closely Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 The trees are gorgeous. We finally get a set with more than one decent tree. Spoiler Spoiler Quote
newwavejunkie Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 I have but one nitpick and then I will refrain from complaining because this set looks glorious. But after all these years they couldn't mold Gandalf a hat/hair combo. Still using that same 30-year-old Majisto hat? Quote
Agent Kallus Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 There's so much to take in I don't know where to start.... Well looks like there's a new weapon pack for the middle earth weapons ( like the Ninjago ones where all the parts come in one pack always bundled together) and I reckon this set will come with 2 at least of said pack looking at all the weapons we can see. It'd be very weird to make a pack like that for one set. Hell it's unusual for such a big set, hoping for system sets too. I can see an orcish looking sword, a dwarfish axe, a broken sword, a non-brokrn sword, an eleven weapon and what might be sting. New fern part is a nice unexpected surprise. I do like the new elf hair it works great for Elrond. But not so much for Arwen or legolas. Luckily I have the old legolas and quite a few other Elves from the old theme though I have more hobbit than LotR sets. ( ironically Rivendell was the only old elf focused old LotR set that I never got) so I don't really have a good alternative for Arwen but I do for legolas. Interesting that they've got sitting down builds to replace the legs of short or skirted characters, thats a new one for me and is an awesome inclusion. Gimli's helmet and Frodo's hair ( did the photographer accidentally swap Sam and merry's hair?) Are welcome returns. New dwarf beard. I like it but it looks a bit weird with hair. Some many printed statues! A shame that they don't have elven ears but them being printed us already above and beyond. No news on gwp front then? Is it 8th of march instead of the first then? I'll have to check what shift I'm on at work that week to see if can go down to the Lego store in-person. The build itself is astounding. And I love the decorated paintings and all that. Aragorn is not one of the characters I have from the old theme, so his outfit here is a bit disappointing, but it's understandable and if they do make more sets with his regular outfit then it's a nice variant. But it's just weird how all the rest of the fellowship are in their iconic looks and he isn't. Quote

(When we were joking about that a few pages ago I really didn't think it would happen, but I guess bricked gollum is it?) Also the dimensions are on the site as well, pretty significant. Also fifteen Minifigures, plus six Minifigures for statues? 21 total is pretty nice. Edited February 7, 2023 by Lordhelmet Quote
Alegrispa Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Just noticed the printed floor tiles! Those look really neat. Quote
Huigberts Builds Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Oke oke oke, wow, I love the building itself. The interior is also a very nice surprise. So many details. I especially like Bilbo's room with the Mithril shirt in a chest. Definitely gonna have to buy this set, but the price is a bit too much in my opinion. I hope it will go down to 400. Now for the figures it's a bit of a mixed bag. I'm very happy with the double molded legs for the hobbits. Plus they even have extra pieces that make them able to sit. Hair colour is also a bit more accurate on the ones that changed. Torso design has stayed pretty much the same, few minor changes, which is fine, originals where great. Also prefer the more expressive faces they gave the Merry and Pippin. Bilbo is a huge disappointment though, as I feared from the leaks he does indeed have the doc brown hair, that really ruins the figure for me. Hopefully we will get the hobbit hair in white someday, but this was pretty much my only hope. Old Glóin is nice to get. But giving him and Gimli the mid legs doesn't really work in my eyes. Will change that once I get the set. The new beard mold feels a bit unnecessary, but I'll take it. I guess it's so that he can use that hairpiece, but that doesn't really work too well in my eyes. The new colour for gimli feels weird, but it also works, not sure which I would have preferred. Gandalf with the dress piece looks great, but come on, still the old hat? They give Gimli a new beard but Gandalf stays stuck with this hat? Meanwhile background characters in Harry Potter get even new hat molds (which I totally love, but come one.) At least they included a better hairpiece this time. Using the same hairpiece on all the Elves also doesn't do it for me. It looks especially bad on Legolas. Luckily I have the old figures so I can combine the two. What I do like is how they made Elrond (and I assume Gandalf as well) able to sit. Other than that the remaining figures are pretty good, nothing too special. Especially like the many printed statues. Quote
