Minas Tirith could be done several different ways. You’ll never get the full city with an accurate shape and scale without it being a huge D2C with a very high price tag, which I’m fine with and would buy for sure. It can also be done with a couple different play scale sets, each depicting different scenes. One for the gates and outer wall with Grond or something, with some city interior, one with the upper levels and the courtyard, tree, and citadel. Maybe another set could focus more on the interior of the city. Maybe there could be a Gondorian soldier battle pack with a section of wall that you could add on, and make it bigger. There are a lot of possibilities and I’m sure lego is clever enough to come up with a way to do it that works

Agreed. I must say that the amazing Rivendell set makes me quite hopeful for the future :-)

…the „fleshy“ discussion is still not dead yet? Guys, it‘s been almost 20 years. At some point, you need to get over it :laugh_hard:

😁

I don’t dislike non-yellow, I just don’t have many and they’ll look weird with the rest now.

and I’d be loath to pull off the hands on figs that are most likely to be worth a fortune at some point!

that is actually a good point. totally disregarded the fact, lol.

matter of fact I have mostly yellow figs... hmm...

I wouldnt wanna temper with Lotr figs to make them fit with the yellow ones...

and fleshing out the yellow ones would be expensive, arghhg

When can we expect the first reviews ?

I know that ambassadors are silenced for a while each time.

I think one of them said in their video that they would have a full review on the 22nd.  I do not remember which video said that though.

No! Fleshie fans need the yellowskin fans and vice versa. Who do you think we swap all those unwanted yellow heads and hands with in exchange for nice flesh tones. It was interesting to see that the latest batch of LOTR figures had lose a lot of the little neck area of skin print, so ideal for changing to yellow, just as recently more generic yellowskin characters have been easier to change to fleshie.

I also immediately realized this and I think that‘s probably the best change Lego did with the prints which now can be used in different scenarios with both yellow and flesh heads!

Thank you.

If you check the beginning of the Bricksie video it seems that the box has the same dimensions as the Lion's Knights Castle. It looks like it is shipped in the same cardboard box. Am I right ?

I know Rivendell has lot of small pieces but is it possible that it has the same box as the castle with approximately 2000 thousand pieces more ?

Yeah, it looks to be the same size as the UCS Razor Crest (6000 some pieces) which I believe is the same size too.

Out of the reused faces, Gandalf’s the only one that annoys me a bit. Sure, we can’t see the facial expression, but I still just can’t ignore that frown underneath, knowing it’s there :laugh_hard: All the other characters that use that faceprint are EVIL! The Aberforth one really works nicely as a replacement though, as others have pointed out.

Out of the new faceprints, Elrond’s strikes me as odd. Looks far younger than it should, and the old one captured Weaving’s signature eyebrows better. Still an excellent minifig overall and those dual-moulded elven hairpieces look so crisp! Much better than the old printed ones

I agree about Elrond. It’s not terrible but it looks too young and expressions are a little off for sure. But as far as reused face prints the worst offender has to be Legolas. That Solo face looks absolutely nothing like him. At least the Wheatley face can pass as Gandalf behind the beard piece. Legolas just doesn’t look like himself. I’ll definitely replace his face first, probably with the old Legolas face. Then I’ll use the Aberforth head for Gandalf eventually, once it’s available. I’ll replace Sam’s hair with nougat. Might try to find a better face for Arwen too. I wish I could replace Bilbo’s hair with a white hobbit hair piece. I actually might have a custom dyed one from a Third Doctor custom minifig, maybe I’ll use that. I think I’m fine with everything else except for Gimli’s beard, but I’m torn on that. I hate the inaccurate color but I love the new mold and I’m not sure the new helmet will even fit over the old beard mold. So I’ll probably keep it but I hope they go back to reddish brown for any possible future Gimli minifigs

Truly a wonderful set!

For 400€ with double VIP points, I might consider to buy, because there`s the threshold to not feel utterly overpriced.

But 500€ for a set this size? No, in no universe. Yeah, it has over 6000 (small) pieces, but it just doesn`t look like a 500€-Set for me.

But hey, it has the LotR branding and 15 (mostly desirable) Minifigs, so many people will buy it. I hope they have fun with it, I just can`t justify spending 500€ on a set like this - it gets even worse when I compare it to Ninjago City Gardens or Flower Fruit Mountain - a set which doesn`t look that much smaller but only costs 1/3 of Rivendell. And in my opinion looks equally good.

I disagree that this set is only a little bigger than fruit flower mountain.  I have fruit flower mountain and I think will be much bigger than that.  And once again why are people comparing it to Ninjago city gardens that is an unlicensed set and isn't even close to the detail in this set.  I have a question for you did you buy the lion knights castle?  And if not what is the largest set you own?

I mean Harry Potter has the issue of being tied to bigotry, so its fandom is definitely not going to be continually growing, with a bunch of people who used to like it actively avoiding it. (And making sure their kids do the same)

I’m definitely not saying they’re on the same playing field now, especially with younger people, but LOTR definitely has a much brighter long-term future than Harry Potter does. But that doesn’t have any effect on the short term popularity of Lego sets.

On the topic of the arguments about how fewer kids are into LOTR, my question is, how many AFOLs don’t like playsets? Because the vast majority of us like Lego for the minifigures and love the playsets, since that’s what we grew up on and got us into Lego in the first place.

Even if most of the people interested in sets are adults, I’m sure most of us would be very happy with playsets and they’d sell well anyways.

I don't see this at all as Hogwarts legacy is really popular and the ones that are leaving the franchise are being replaced by new fans.  As for the fan bases of both HP and LOTR they are definitely different fan bases and LOTR has always been popular in it's own right.  HP really blew up and still has a strong fanbase but I think LOTR/Tolkien fans made a strong statement about the ROP and that will have no bearing on the popularity of LOTR because we can still read the books and watch the original movies.  HP may have a issue for a little while but I don't think it's going to kill the franchise.

How about a 'mixed perspective' vignette - almost like a skyline in the background with a scene in the foreground. That way, it would still be minifig 'scale'

I was thinking about swapping the new Legolas hair for Haldir’s.  I think the hair in the front fits haldir better than the current Legolas one.  Also you will have to share which head you use for arwen, I saw the mantis one floated earlier which is a good cheap option.

I find it strange that they didn’t reuse face prints from the original line.  I know it’s a cost savings effort to use common faces, but they already had the print files somewhere and maybe even the programming for the machines.  It’s too bad they just used generic ones when we already had great ones or the ability to create new ones as options.

I don't think we've quite internalized how massive this guy is gonna be. The dimensions on the website state that it is H: 16" (39cm), W: 30" (75cm), and D: 20" (50cm). Now, obviously that depth does have a fair bit of space in it since it's the back of the main structure to the front of the gazebo area, but still, that's enormous. I legitimately do not have a shelf that can fit this. And as a reference point, I believe the old Helm's Deep (sans extension) is about 20" long. That's the depth of the set, and the width is another half as long.

I just ordered the Mantis face for arwen. It'll be a decent substitute since the official one is $$$$. Sam's and Merry's hair was swapped and are an easy fix. Got an og face for Gandalf and I'm pretty sure the og beard will fit for gimli and I intend to swap the new one out

If I did the measuring correctly Rivendell will take up and entire shelf for me, with part of it hanging off.....I have multiple shelves that display entire THEMES and one set is eating a shelf up and barely fitting!!! XD

It is a top ten biggest Lego set (according to Lego) :), I have a shelf I set aside for it when the rumors came out, right next to my helms deep.

also good suggestions on minifig mods.

I did not know that wow! Glad I'll have a set in the top ten!!!

If they do eventually go with Minas Tirith and Lothlorien I’m most looking forward to new Galadriel and Arwen in the pale green dress .. and of course another 2 huge sets 😁😂

Also had a follow-up question. I know Arwen has that crown in the third film, would a wonder woman face print with a tiara work? or is that not a good representation of the crown. Thanks!

It’s not a bad call, but Diana’s tiara is gold whereas Arwen’s is silver .. Rowena Ravenclaw has a silver tiara, but the face print doesn’t quite work for me 👍🏼

What face might work better for Legolas that’s currently being produced? Hoping to find one in a current set that’s on the market, it would probably be much cheaper on bricklink
