For what we'have seen untill now, Harry Potter and LotR path are really different. Harry Potter returned in 2018 with its own theme (Wizarding World) plus BrickHeadz plus a minifigure series. It's true that there was the microscale 71043 Hogwarts Castle, but this set came out at the same time as the playset wave (summer 2018). Then LEGO continued the already planned 3-year-playset-path (and have continued with further 3 year different style), adding the first Advent Calendar in 2019, the first brick-built creature in 2020 (Hedwig), the first adult collectors set in 2021 (Hogwarts Icons - Collectors' Edition with its black box) and an art set in the same year. LotR returns this year with an adult collectors set (with its, imho, unexciting black box) and BrickHeadz. And if the Barad-Dur leaks would be confirmed as a set for the next year, we would have two adult collectors set with no sign of playsets. Of course, we don't know what 2024 will give us, but for now LEGO seems to have taken two different paths with Harry Potter and LotR, with different targets and markets, and I wouldn't bet on LotR or The Hobbit playset in the next future. Even if Rivendell would sell a lot, and I think it will, how this fact could be seen by LEGO as a sign that people want playset LotR and not new adult collectors sets (like Barad-Dur or similar)? I wouldn't mind being proven wrong in the future : from the past sets I have only Dol Guldur battle and there's so many character I'd like to buy... and without hiring a burglair to steal gold to a dragon . GoldenNinja3000 Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 I love Rivendell. I think it's one of the best sets LEGO has ever made. My only complaint is Arwen's reused head. I haven't felt this excited for a big LEGO set in a while, but I'm definitely going to be waiting outside the store on March 5th! I hope we do get playsets this year, but I feel like we'd have heard rumors by now if they were coming. Maybe we'll see some next year? LEGO wouldn't invest so much money in new molds if they weren't going to use them a lot. Quote

Wrong franchise sorry... Looks to the stars for hop burns bright... No wait that's green lantern.. Sons of Gondor! Of Rohan! My brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me! A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship. But it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the age of Men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand! But honestly, it's so refreshing to see a huge D2C where a single reused face is my biggest issue! Quote
Nylock Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 Not sure if anyone saw, but Brick Depot did a speed build / Timelapse of Rivendell and unfortunately it doesn’t look like we get the non-broken narsil/Anduril. The weapons pack comes with 2 broken Narsils though and plenty of other cool swords and weapons. Quote

josebricks Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 Looks like 4x Gimli axes 4x elven blades (see Arwen drawing on the Nine at the ford) 2x updated Sting 2x shards of Narsil 2x Aragorn’s Dunedain longsword 2x Boromir’s broadsword Quote

kuzyabricks Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 (edited) Has lego ever made THIS many specialized pieces for a set and not followed up with more for the same line to reuse them? More LOTR sets will come I'm certain. Hopefully before I leave for college.... Edited February 14, 2023 by kuzyabricks Quote

The fact that they created a special weapons pack like they've done for Ninjago, Monkie Kid, and Star Wars with the Clone Trooper accessories, (and I believe the new bow piece that can shoot arrows was really created for LotR) all but confirms we're getting playsets. RichardGoring Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 I'd love it if more happened, but it will all be about sales and potential. If they don't get what they want from it, they're not afraid to cancel things, despite large investments in it. But agreed, it's a good sign. Why do two of each of the unique weapons? Is it just to provide extras as these are more likely to break, or is there a more specific reason related to parts that come as a collection/pack? Quote
LegoAUT Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 I think you all overestimate the investment into a new mould.. it‘s not very expensive to create such a mould, especially not for a company as large as TLG, so like Richard said, if they are unhappy with the sales, there being a new mould will give us nothing. If it was one mold sure. However there are multiple in this set and I don't see them being created for just one set. That would be ridiculous. Has there ever been a set where the mould has only belonged to that one set? Except like smaug for example that's an extreme case Quote
General Magma Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 (edited) They pump all these new moulds into HP sets but LOTR doesn't even get Gandalf a proper hat-and-hair combination in a behemoth set. Anyway, I still think it's pretty cool and on a more positive note in regards to new moulds, the new weapons are great. Hope everyone who gets it will enjoy it fully, me personally I realised I should just peek at some replica miniatures instead. Edited February 14, 2023 by General Magma Quote

There was big moulded Goblin King, unique goblin headgear pieces and hairpieces from Nori and Dori, None of these was ever used again. (+) There could be some other LotR sets on the way, sure. But they can easily use the new molds (expect Narsil) for future in-house Castle/Fantasy themes and/or CMF. Edited February 14, 2023 by Mr. Cube Quote

Right nori and Dori is somewhat of an example and I'm sure they would have appeared at least once more if it wasn't for Hobbit/LOTR being ended prematurely. However the goblin king is another extreme example such as smaug. Quote

Hobbit went on for two more years (the duration of the trilogy, which is all it was meant to), and the only Dwarf beards/hairpieces they brought back were Balin and Dwalin. Quote

While true, it's specifically the fact that they created a pack of weapons in their own separate bag in the exact same way they have done for Ninjago, Monkie Kid and Star Wars that points to being reused in multiple sets. LEGO has never created a parts pack like that and not put it in multiple sets. Quote

Balrogofmorgoth Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 I think there are some things that are a good sign in favor of more possible sets. But it would be a terrible idea to assume any of it means it’s happening. Just speak with your wallet, that’s all we can do right now Quote

Sure, they haven‘t done that before, but that doesn‘t necessarily mean more sets are coming (besides Barad-dûr, that is). These packs count as one part, so in a way, they‘re like any other part exclusive to a D2C set. Or rather, they *could* be exclusive, we just don‘t know yet Let‘s see what 2024 brings (besides Barad-dûr, unless they dare to cancel it)! Quote
