Reviews are out... Its gunny how all those "main" channels drop the review video at the same time :D Besides Ashnflash and Solid Bricks Studio, all of them are quite annoying. Especially Emosaurus :D

I think they are given a date they are allowed to release the review from Lego (which is why they are on the same day).  Family common for other industries as well.

This review shows it next to the castle, razor crest, and some modulars for scale.

A few things said here, Lego mentioned that Rivendell is being used to gauge the LOTR market and has to sell well for them to make more sets in the future (confirming some of the thoughts in the forum).  I am reading between the lines a bit but thinking that could mean playsets (and other things) in addition to more large sets (like the Barad Dur which may come out depending on Rivendell sales).  Also mentioned nothing is currently scheduled for 2023 for LOTR (which also makes sense as there have been no rumors, sad but more confirmation).

I will be a day one purchase, unless my local store sells out before I can buy (but I will be there early).  If it does sell out I will be buying at the first 2x VIP points afterward.

What’s the difference?  It’s still labeled as LOTR and packaged as that isn’t it?  Also the description said LOTR sets so surely we can expect more.  Or as you say it’s just a rumour now regrading Barad-dur but it does make sense if they release it as it would still be under ICONS and cover the description that was out out about LOTR in general.

The difference is that a theme is more likely to have a range of different sized sets.

I prefer reviews with text and photos. I often visit Jay's blog and find the reviews excellent. Here is his review, you can see Rivendell next to the 10305 Castle, Orthanc Tower and the Helm's Deep sets: https://jaysbrickblog.com/reviews/review-lego-10316-the-lord-of-the-rings-rivendell/

I'm so hyped ! If I don't take it immediately I will take it with certainty at the end of the year with double VIP points / good GWP, and why not save for two copies over the long term if the madness takes me !

I sincerely hope that the set will be a hit and that we will have a lasting return to the theme with lots of sets of different formats. Let LEGO hear us !

I think by next year if we know we are not getting any new LOTR, I will definitely pick up a second copy

I think it is the good way to go, waiting if Barad-Dûr is around the corner or not ! ;-)

To me, after seeing reviews, it really seems like Rivendell is a labor of love for the franchise from LEGO. It's not perfect but really really good. Day 1 purchase for me. Hope we can see more from this theme!

Also, maybe just me, but a lot of reviews (maybe due to regional accents) seem to say "Riven-DALE" instead of "Riven-DELL". Yes I know, probably sound like Hermione haha

After perusing Brickset’s review, I did some digging and it turns out the one painting is indeed Ost-In-Edhil and not Gondolin. Learn something new every day. For some reason I always thought that Alan Lee piece was Gondolin. It does bear striking resemblances.

What would you change if you don't mind me asking?

Indeed, he insists on this possibility at the end of the video where he transcribes what the LEGO team would have entrusted to him. I hope it's not a bluff and that the brand has every intention of continuing the LOTR/Hobbit adventure if Rivendell sells well.

Very minor things - nothing to the build. I thought Aragorn's outfit is more black and silvery-grey. New molds of Gandalf's hat / hair, reforged Anduril sword. Different Legolas hairpiece. Again, VERY minor things that I can easily overlook and adore the set as-is. I also may be incorrect on some of these.

Seeing the image of Rivendell they used in the instruction manual, I really hope we get some people who try to "complete" this set ala Hogwarts Castle to make the full Rivendell area. I'm talking trees, waterfall, etc. I get this is all we can do for a $500 price tag (I would argue $400 but that's a different story), but the kid in me wants to see it as a proper Rivendell display

As for the $500 pain point, I mean price point, I would think that we should get more than this. From the pictures it looks smaller than the Hogwarts castle which was $400.

Don’t forget Hogwarts had four minifigs. This has 15 plus 5 statues. Gotta count for something. Plus a lot of new accessory molds. Clearly this set had more invested into it

So, there are nine designers assigned to this set. Are they supposed to be the Fellowship or the Nazgûl?!

Nine companions…so be it. You shall be the Fellowship…of the Brick!

Also worth noting, the current price for Hogwarts is $470.  To compare apples to apples we should probably stick with full prices (not "I bought it on sale for $300") and current lego.com prices which have taken into account Lego's general price raising.  I do not love the $500, but Lego is essentially telling us that it is $30 more than Hogwarts in their current pricing models.  (probably would have been $450 if released a year ago).

Also thinking along this line, if we look at the other top ten largest sets (per lego.com) this might be the best value for a licensed theme set.  (there should be better value in non licensed sets) but looking at Star Wars, Harry Potter, DC, or Marvel (especially the new leaked prices for the big sets coming out later this year) this is clearly a better price per piece/minifig etc.  While I wish it cost less, this is a better price that we would see for the other licensed sets of this scale.

But they were, all of them, deceived, for another set was made. In the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom, the Dark Lord Sauron forged in secret a Master LEGO Set of Barad-dur...

And into this set he poured his cruelty, his malice, and his will to dominate the lego market

One by one, the free wallets of AFOLs fell to the power of the set. But there were some who resisted!

Ah who am I kidding. Take my wallet, LEGO.

The first nine to buy it become Ringwraiths.

”nine sets were gifted to the race of Men, who above all else, desire Lego”

I think that would be the reviewers.

In this video interview with some of the designers of the Rivendell set, there is something interesting about the absence of Gimli's double battle axe. Indeed at the end they are asked if they regret not having included an element. The issue of Gimli's weapon is discussed, as it is not present in the set for various reasons, including whether he already has it or not at this stage of the adventure. Anyway, Mike Psiaki claims in this video that, if LEGO LOTR sets continue, he hopes there is a chance to bring it. Exciting !

When we look closely at the film (i put the timer) we see that he arms himself with the double battle axe in Balin's tomb after the troll explodes the tomb :

Also, I don't know about you but I find that the different maps that are present in the set in the form of stickers put the emphasis on Barad-Dûr. And we also know that LEGO likes to announce future sets through more or less hidden details... By the way why Orthanc is located in Mordor on the sticker ???

Well, it's not a secret that LEGO has already produced at least a prototype of Barad-Dûr for a market survey: twenty days ago leaked image was available on web. Barad-Dûr could already be in LEGO project for 2024.

I've not seen Rivendell reviews yet, but this could be a major mistake in the set.

C'mon now. Yes, there are plenty of LEGO content creators who can be perceived as irritating, but calling them out like that is very unseemly and childish, not to mention rude as they're all members of our community and frequent sites like Eurobricks as well.

Also, they're all released at the same time, because that's the earliest time LEGO allows them to release.
