Climbing 20 degrees hill

I designed this little engine that could climb a 20 degree hill and filmed the whole ride in glorious 360 degree video. You can spin the camera and have a look for the Unikitty.

So what did you design exactly, is there something special on the engine?

Several modifications were necessary, such as using three engines and raising the bogies. Normally these trains can barely go up five degrees slopes.

Clear. Normally a train does not have to go up a slope that steep of course ;-)

That is quite a train! The track seems very, very long, it could be because the 360 panarama is rather disorienting. I really like it, thanks for sharing this.

Well done, though - with tight space, most of need a higher grade in order to make a nice layout.

So after coming around from under said unikitty, you just gun the throttle and shoot up the hill? Interesting, I would have thought that the motors could not accelerate that fast without spinning the wheels.

Yes, the train has to go to full speed to gather enough speed to go up the hill. It is a sensitive balance between weight and power of the train. If it is too light then the wheels will start slipping. If it is too heavy then the train will just come to a stop with the wheels stalled. It requires power and weight to get the train up.

Huge..uni..kitty..I agree the train accelerates pretty fast. would you show pics of your mods, my son would love to try it.

Even most rack-and-pinion systems can't do that steep.
