Minifig Lecturer Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 (edited) I decided last night to change the look of the main square in my town and knock-down my old "Winter Palace" and rebuild it with a more impressive and detailed one. It is still a WIP but mostly complete. I need to get some white arched bricks for the small windows and the grills used as panes for the small windows too. Also I need to touch up on the inside of the building, I haven't furnished the inside of the two main wings which will be large halls. The parliament building is less detailed but is supposed to be. I hope that these buildings will look at least somewhat Neoclassical/Stalinist in architecture like these . The main problem I will have is transporting and placing the buildings onto the grey boards. This is usually a pain in the minifig backside. I'll add some more pics when finished and integrated into the town. The buildings they will replace are shown in last picture. Update here the buildings are integrated into my town: Edited August 21, 2008 by Calvin Quote
iamded Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 That's fantastic! :-D It looks very neat and fancy, I love the arched windows, great job! Keep it up! *y* *y* ~Peace Quote
PaulC Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 These are really good, and have a very "official" and "presidential" feel to them. They're so heavily built that they also look like they could double as a pair of fortresses if any trouble starts! *wacko* Quote
casewindu Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 I love the way the arches stick out from the wall to cover the windows and how you have used the harry potter circular top windows! Looks very impressive and majestic! You should do some sought of steeple on top of the building instead of it being a flat top, it would just give it a little more promonace and your already massive sky-line! ;-) Quote
Asuka Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 You did a very good job with rendering some Neoclassical/Stalinist architecture indeed, the facade work´s marvelous and nicely detailed. An impressive work! *y* Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 That's a fantastic architecture, Calvin! I really like it! *y* Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted March 31, 2008 Author Posted March 31, 2008 Thanks everyone for the feedback. Unfortunately on Sat night I spent 2 hours trying to move it from the three green baseplates into the town square and the whole thing just fell apart. It was very frustrating fixing one part for another to fall off :( Now I have a big pile of jigsaw like pieces to try and fit together. The real problem is that the towns baseplates lie on a carpet which makes it difficult to make stable buildings that are built over more than one baseplate. The other problem, in this case, is trying to reach over all the other stuff in the way. Hard to do and studs on palms really hurt after a while. And another problem is that the floors inside can be take out but this has made the building somewhat weaker do it its weight. I might try and give it another go tonight. If it doesnt work I will take all the pieces back and rebuilt off-site again and try another day. The second building, parliament, is also too big - I messed up my calculations - so I will knock it down and make a shorter building. These are really good, and have a very "official" and "presidential" feel to them. They're so heavily built that they also look like they could double as a pair of fortresses if any trouble starts! *wacko* Yes, it's supposed to be imposing and potentially a fortress to hide from the less well-off angry minifigs roaming the streets. You should do some sought of steeple on top of the building instead of it being a flat top, it would just give it a little more promonace and your already massive sky-line! ;-) I think I will make a steeple, I first thought not to but as you recommend it I think I should. You did a very good job with rendering some Neoclassical/Stalinist architecture indeed, the facade work´s marvelous and nicely detailed. An impressive work! *y* That's a fantastic architecture, Calvin! I really like it! *y* Thanks! Quote
