legobear Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 I am not a bricklink addict (this is what all addicts say) but I feel like one. Why? Because I dropped 50 dollars in two days on Bricklink recently. It got me thinking, how many of us Eurobrick users use Bricklink in a Obssessive Compulsive Way (OCW). I use mine specifically for Town and City pieces as I am attracted to sea animals and the works. What do you guys purchase most of the time on bricklink and how often do you guys use it? Quote
blueandwhite Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Bricklink is a MOCer's paridise. I use it for everything. In fact, most of my AFOL purchasing has been done through bricklink. I purchased a bunch of legends back in the day, and I've picked up a few sets but the bulk of my buying is done through bricklink where I get the pieces I want for a far better price. While certain figs/parts are expensive, bricklink is often an inexpensive resource for bricks that alot of builders simply overlook. Who can pass that up? Quote
Deinonychus Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 I just don't feel right unless I have a couple orders sitting in-process on my orders page. I look forward to going to the mailbox everyday in hopes that I've gotten a little package of parts and/or Minifigs from a Bricklink seller. My problem is I can't just buy $5 worth of pieces...I feel the need to "fill my order out" by tossing on goofy parts, sets, or Minifigs that strike my fancy until I've jacked the bill up to $40 or so :-P Quote
Capn Frank Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 I do make 2-3 order from B-L a month. Usually they're around $15-$25 orders. I buy bricks almost exclusively for my Constitution to keep building. I've got a lot of bricks, but i dont want a very colorful constitution :-P There are a lot of obscure bricks that i need to regularly purchase to keep that project moving. :'-) P Quote
UniqueBuilder Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Unfortunately I don't have a credit card, paypal etc so I don't have the possibility to BL.. :'-( Quote
SirNadroj Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 "My name's SirNadroj, and I'm addicted to Bricklink" *everyone* "Hello Sirnadroj" Seriously. I won't place an order every week, but if I have a project, and I need to place orders, it usually gets out of control really bad, and really fast. >:-) Actually, I've got to go place an order now. Seriously. :-D Quote
Dragonator Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 I've only just started making orders, but already I can see the addiction. There's so many parts listed there that you don't think you need put when you see them you can immediately think of something to use them on. X-D I think I might be catching it... 8-| *sweet* Quote
goldiegs Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 i'm sure you have all heard of "Mechanized Brick", well i ordered the instructions book a while back. and every now and again when my girlfriend decides i've been good she looks thru the inventory for "another" tank, as she puts it, and the price of a $300 dollar set is usually closer to $75, so naturally i am only alowed on the site for special occasions, especially after the incident i was buyin 4 items at like a few cents each, then noticed a minimum buy, and, being overly cocky about the exchange rate almost bought out the guys entire stock, spending $280 and to this day i still have 3 lego drawers full of wings lol Quote
maiq the liar Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Unfortunately I don't have a credit card, paypal etc so I don't have the possibility to BL.. :'-( Can't you just snail-mail them the money? that's what i did when i ordered something a few years back. Quote
SirNadroj Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Just placed another order and spent twice as much as I intended. :-$ I partly blame this due to the wide array of pieces one has to choose from. There are certain pieces you've always wanted, too. Then there are rare items that are extremly scarce. Get this: I just bought a brown teddy bear. Why? 'Cause it's rare, duh! Of course, this was the last element I had in mind. X-D Quote
CP5670 Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 I spend more money on Bricklink than on actual sets these days. Most of the parts for my MOCs come from there. I don't place orders that often, maybe once every two or three months, but I usually buy a lot of stuff at once. My last order was something like $135 for 1500 parts among 160 lots. The only exception is if I need some rare piece that none of the major sellers with large inventories are carrying. I got a few monorail switch service packs like this from one German seller a while ago. Quote
DarkYamiDragon Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 I don't use BrickLink that often. I would LOVE to, but I can't. I've only used it two times, actually. Thank goodness that almost every seller on there accepts money orders! :-D Quote
Shadows Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 I wouldn't classify myself as an addict. I don't make a lot of orders, but I can't stand making them too small. If I need a few parts from a seller, I'll dig around until I get it to $25, at least, before I order. If I can't find enough, I'll pass unless it's just too important. Typically, I like to keep orders over $50 and take full lots instead of 1 of this and 3 of that. As a result, I don't order often, maybe a couple of times a month. So far, no really bad experiences. Had one seller who misrepresented some minifigs, but when I wrote and explained the situation, they paid me back for them. I learned that they were honest, but sloppy, and probably wouldn't deal with them again, but at least I wasn't left with a bad experience. Quote
AFOL SF Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Coincidentally, I just placed 3 separate orders from BL a couple of weeks ago. 2 of these orders I already received and hopefully the 3rd will arrive this coming week. I don't order often, maybe once every few months; this is due to the fact that I don't have the talent of MOCing. Most of the parts I order are plants and vegetations to supplement my LegoTown display which I have proudly names Smith Center. Quote
simonwillems Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Whenever I feel like I 'need' something I go on Bricklink and purchase it.... I recognise your problem SirNadroj: browsing a shop leaves you with the most unintended things in your shopping cart, after placing an order I often remember the pieces I really needed in the first place but did not buy. :'-( Living in Europe I am benefitting from the current low Dollar-Euro exchange rate, making it possible to mutliply every amount by 0,65 especially when buying from a seller in England or the US. Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Bricklink is sort of like Ikea, everything looks cheap...untill you arrive at the check out 8-| Anyway i love BL and i make about 1 order a month, i usually spend around 50 euro's on it. Am i an addict? Yeah totally :'-) Quote
CopMike Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Bricklink is sort of like Ikea, everything looks cheap...untill you arrive at the check out 8-|Bad-mouthing IKEA >:-)? - now you gonna get it Bob X-D!On subject, I have 25 orders on the way at this moment 8-|! Maybe our own Holodoc should diagnose my condition? Bookshelf Billy On copmike Quote
SuvieD Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 I used to be. I would place an order or more a week. Now I just buy clearance sets and sell the parts I don't want on BL. It takes more time but save me a lot of money. Going to school right now ends up costing me a lot, so any money I can save makes life easier on me. Feel free to buy from my Bricklink store, and haggle with me on prices. Quote
JimBee Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 ive never place a BL order, but im considering using it to buy missed minifigs. (i need alot, like chewie and leia). i hardly ever shop online; i guess its just not my thing. 8-| Quote
Mirandir Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 I order for around $100 a month from BL. Usually its pieces that can't be found in current sets or stuff that would be quite expensive to buy through sets in the quantities I need. Unfortunately I don't have a credit card, paypal etc so I don't have the possibility to BL.. :'-( Well if you buy locally you should be able to use simple bank transfers. And since you're from norway I believe IBAN is available too. Then all you need is a bank-office or an internet bank with support for IBAN payments and you should be able to buy from most European Bricklink shops. Quote
Holodoc Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Maybe our own Holodoc should diagnose my condition? Doctor parkinson declared Im not surprised to see you here Youve got smokers cough from smoking, brewers droop from drinking beer I dont know how you came to get the betty davis knees But worst of all young man youve got industrial disease X-D Looking at your 25 orders I think I can foget about the two I have pending. Real small orders. Petty cash. :-$ But I´ve got another order from the TLC's online PaB running... Some bricks are cheaper there. ;-) Addicted ON! Quote

Besides, Paypal recently came with the possibility to link your paypal address to your bank-account. That way no credit card is needed, just a bank-account. I tried it and it works perfectly well! Go and link those bricks bank-account! :-) Quote

As a result, I don't order often, maybe a couple of times a month. ... I try to get full lots too. ExoBuilder Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 I am not addicted to Bricklink X-D No, I just made my first order today, I could see myself using this alot more then necessary. :-D *sweet* Quote
Doctor Sinister Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 I am a BrickLink addict. My favourite BL seller lives about half a mile from my house. And they are so cool and friendly - they DELIVER! The brilliant thing is that I can think up a design in the morning, place the order and have the parts delivered that evening - and view my completed construction that night. How cool is that? I just had an order delivered 5 minutes ago. It allows me so much flexibility in building, if I miss something out, I can whack another order in and complete it the next day. Dr. S. Quote
