art_apples Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 This is awesome news. We've had 12 years so far of SWlego and just think how many sets we've had, it's an amazing amount. And now we've got 10 years more worth of sets to come.... In my wildest thoughts I never would have imagined that the licence would even get to 2010, so this news almost guarantees that we will get every nook and cranny of vehicles and playlets covered as there just isn't enougth material otherwise to fill all that grime period. We are now pretty much guaranteed a full on cantina, and maybe repeat renditions of it, maybe more Jabba's Palace attachments, Ewok villages, UCS galore - A-wings, Slave 1's, at-at, Endor speeder bikes in mini land scale maybe, after UCS R2 comes out more droids will follow I'm sure, who knows a C3-PO to match it, and every mssing vehicle will have to be looked at... my dream of a Rebel medium transporter will surely come at some point. And playsets galore to - cloud city, Tattoine surely, a homestead is a must as well.... I can go on and on I'm sure, but this news just flashed all these and more sets across my mind and I'm just so looking forward to where this amazing hobby will go to over this following decade. I can't wait.... :-) Quote
TheBoyWonder Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 This is amazing. More SWTOR sets I hope. Quote
Appswasere Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I know there is a long way to go but I hope they do re-releases of UCS sets to mark the 20th anniversary of star wars lego like they did with those (legends) pirate ships a while back Quote
HJR-Holland Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Wow, ten years is a long, long time... I don't even have room for all my sets today, let alone in ten years' time! I do doubt whether LEGO will continue to release 25 sets pe year ofthis theme; that is a lot... Quote
mutley777 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Oh crap!! Don't tell my wife, she will kill me for sure. Great news for us fans though! Quote
KimT Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 This is GREAT news!! The hell it is. I've collected every single Star Wars LEGO set so far and now they've extended the license for 10 more years. Do you have any idea what that'll cost me? Gawd! I need to win a zillion spacebucks in the lottery... soonish! Oh crap!! Don't tell my wife, she will kill me for sure. Great news for us fans though! Seconded Quote

Yes and no. Sure, we'll get some new ideas here and there but the vast majority will be retreads. Every 4 years they have to rerelease a popular model so that a new wave of kids has a chance of buying a set. We've had three versions of multiple sets but still no Yavin 4, cantina, etc. Here's hoping they get around to that sooner than later. Edited February 13, 2012 by StoutFiles Quote

surrideo Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 And you will stop buying LEGO if they end the license? Not sure of KimT's tastes but I'm sure many just buy the Star Wars sets here and a huge volume of sales would be lost, potentially endangering the business or at least it's current model Quote
mutley777 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Not sure of KimT's tastes but I'm sure many just buy the Star Wars sets here and a huge volume of sales would be lost, potentially endangering the business or at least it's current model Yeah, that pretty much sums me up. In the last 13 years of collecting I am already nearly up to 750 Star wars sets bought and probably 500+ of those in the last 6 years! I know for sure that my present house can't stand up to firepower (purchases) of that magnitude! Quote
Brickdoctor Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Yeah, that pretty much sums me up. In the last 13 years of collecting I am already nearly up to 750 Star wars sets bought and probably 500+ of those in the last 6 years! I know for sure that my present house can't stand up to firepower (purchases) of that magnitude! So, when are you going to go the route of the second house just for LEGO? Great news, as has been said many times already. Not that I ever really expected it to end in the near future. Quote
mutley777 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 So, when are you going to go the route of the second house just for LEGO? I don't think I will ever go down that route (unless I win the lottery ) but maybe a bigger house might be in order . Either that or I might just have to start opening sets and folding boxes flat. That might help a fair bit. I am glad the license has been extended but I would also not have minded if they had announced a end to it. Quote

I know for sure that my present house can't stand up to firepower (purchases) of that magnitude! That must be a very impressive sight; actually I'm having a slight problem visualising a pile of Lego boxes that big!! I now understand how you've managed to collect 1000 clones.....! Are there any SW sets that you don't own? Cheers, Robin Quote
Speedboat Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 That's wonderful news! I hope LEGO will release more Expanded Universe sets, when the Clone Wars series ends. I'm not sure they would produce sets apart from those based upon video games or another TV-series, but it would be great getting sets based on The New Jedi Order, Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi novels. With Star Wars, their possibilities are nearly unlimited, I hope they won't just rehash old sets. Quote
mutley777 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Are there any SW sets that you don't own? Cheers, Robin Well I never bothered with the Technic sets (they always looked ugly) or the Super packs (3 sets I already own in a different box, come on) but everything else I am almost up to date with. UCS SSD from last year and 3 sets from the january wave is all need to be complete again, until the summer that is. Quote
WhiteFang Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Am I seeing correctly? Does that means the SW license will last until 2022??? Quote
CMP Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Am I seeing correctly? Does that means the SW license will last until 2022??? I think 2012 + 10 does in fact equal 2022. It would have been nice for clarity to specifically say it in the announcement, though. Can't wait to see what they'll remake come up with next. Quote

Vindicare Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 More SW OT re-hash sets! More new SW CW re-hash and new sets! As long as the CW rehashes have white clones, bring them on! Quote
CMP Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 They're going to have to dig deep in the Old Republic to keep things going at a reasonable pace....without an overflow of CW, that is. Or just release increasingly vague OT sets. Or...they could get that friggin' Rancor in production. Either way, despite Star Wars being a massive universe, source material is getting scarce. Quote
StoutFiles Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 I am glad the license has been extended but I would also not have minded if they had announced a end to it. I'm in the same boat. Partially because I don't like seeing my sets and figures become outdated, and partially because I worry that this continued push of mass merchandise will make the brand go stale. Quote
AndyC Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 I'm in the same boat. Partially because I don't like seeing my sets and figures become outdated, and partially because I worry that this continued push of mass merchandise will make the brand go stale. There's been a continual push of mass merchandise with the Star Wars brand since 1977, it doesn't seem to have caused the brand much of an issue so far. Star Wars merchandising is pretty much a license to print money and I'm not in the least bit surprised that Lego Star Wars, which in itself has become bigger than simply construction sets, will be continuing. It would take some drastic turn in fortunes for either party to want to walk away from that one. Quote
rakky Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 I agree with AndyC, Star wars is like a mass merchandise juggernaught and has always produced a ton of stuff so I don't think it will hurt it. OT wise there has been very little made from the planet based parts of the story, especially since star wars went fleshy. Could have a lukes homestead, mos eisley, proper cantina, several sets based on cloud city, rancor pit, a new dagobah, sandcrawler etc... All of these things have been released once years ago and for most of us I guess would be very welcome. The amount of characters they could make are ridiculous as well. Quote
Markypops Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 One of the major factors for me is the shear amount of Star Wars Lego that they now want to release each year. There is two waves with quite a few sets in each wave, which I will admit to buying but also find it a strain on the old wallet. And now with the introduction of LOTR and Super Heroes this will increase the strain. Don't get me wrong I am happy that the license is continuing but wish that the waves had slightly less sets in each wave. Quote
Delta 38 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Hmm. While a license extension is great and all, Star Wars could be seen as getting "old" (even though I've only started collecting since about 2005). Ten years is a long time. The old Original Trilogy will be even older, and I don't know if the Clone Wars will even continue for that long. I don't know, really. I don't want Star Wars to end, but then, it's about time something else (such as Lord of the Rings) took over as Lego's major licensed theme. Quote
