(M, 19) Teythar Lag, Steward of Vineland, Defender of the Crown Knights Kingdom

Teythar moved away from the Ork to try to find Edthgar. He still wanted men to help him defend Vineland! He began to wonder at this time where the rest of his party was...

"Teythar! We're back!" Ark, the famed hunter, said as he rode up. Trailing in John's wake were Scot the Soldier and John, the old man.

"We chased the undead fire cavalry back from whence they came!" Scot said. "Did you miss us?"

"Not a bit." Teythar admitted.

"John's been hit by an arrow; we pulled it out and bandaged the wound, but he needs more attention." Scot said.

"Well take him to the fortress; surely they'll help him." Teythar replied.

Teythar left his friends to take care of John, and went to look for Edthgar. He soon found the fortess commander.

"Edthgar!" Teythar screamed, "I need men to help me defend Vineland! Please help me! Can you spare a passe of troops?"

Finally, they stop for a drink at a nearby creek.

Ah, water, my friend! I'm plenty sure you will drink a lot!!

It's certainly an interesting landscape here. Nothing like I thought it was. It is strange, though...

Haven't come by anybody. Oh!

An apple tree, it looks like we have some food for us!

Siloux aims his bow up, with arrow in place, let's go, and strikes an apple at its stem.

What do you think of that, huh? Haha! Let's see if I can get one for myself.

Siloux aims again, shoots, and strikes it again!

I told you practicing my aim would benefit me in the future! I'm going to get those fallen apples.

Siloux collects them and then heads back. He gives one to the horse and begins eating one for himself.

They will rest here.

We'll rest here for the time being.

Edmond, was starting to get tired he knew that it was near, according to the map he was directly over it. Sucking his breathe in he started turning to Armod as he was preparing to tell him to take their horses ladden with suplies back to stable. But, as he turning to go his foot caught in a hole and tripped him. The first thing he thought of was that it was the entrance to the tunnel. Before he could even turn around to see if he was right Armod was upon him and asking if he was ok. nodding in the affirmative he turned around, brushed some trash away and then pushed his hand into just like he thought it was a handle to a door...

“My Lord, these are the reinforcements.” said Master Archer Kendrick. Lord Kenneth looked around and asked Kendrick “Where is my sister? She is nowhere to be seen.” Kendrick replied “Lady Kristine is attending to Master Wizard Pent. She will join us in a short while. My Lord, May I asked what is the commotion about? Sir Percival did not tell me much. We came here as fast as we could.”

Lord Kenneth looked at Kendrick and answered “Have you heard Black Wraith Demons before?” Kendrick nodded “Yes, it’s nothing but an old Legend.” Lord Kenneth replied calmly “We have encountered one just now. And it will be back soon. We need to find two small boys that are missing in this nearby region. We do not have much time left. Once the magical aura is dispersed, the foul demon will start hunting for souls again.”

Kendrick replied and understands the whole situation. But in his heart, he doubts Lord Kenneth’s words whether such creature really exist or it is just a cover up for his mistakes. Kendrick turned to his men and said “Spread out and search this region. Search for the boys’ location. They are injured, so they should not be too far. Move it.”

After their break, Siloux and his horse travel further North.

At last, the border! We made it, and unharmed!

I wonder what I'm going to do when I get into this region?

Edthgar decided that since reinforcements were coming anyway from the west, that he could let some troops go. He decided that Rodrigues would lead this group, and that Bruno and Bunter would go with him. they packed their things, and went off with their new allies. Now what to do with the orc...

Crown Castle

Throne Room

King Tiberius is meeting with his council of three. Holcroft and Parn, looking old and tired, are seated to his left. Vrend is across the room, pacing. Someone is spying from outside.

I am beside myself with fear. There can be no good to come of any of this...

We have issued orders to the men, they will find her.

What if something terrible has happened? What am I saying? Of course something terrible has happened, that's all there is anymore...

My lord. This has all been a great strain on you. Perhaps you should cut back on your responsibilities, allow us to deal with some of these issues.

Yes... maybe I should...

Tap, tap, tap, a faint tapping at the partially open window.

Oh, I say... a bird at the window. Parn goes over and opens it a bit more to get a better look.

What? Who cares? Go away, you stupid bird! Vrend begins to cross the room, intending to put action behind his words.

Stupid bird? I'll tell you who's a stupid bird!

What?

I know, that didn't really make much sense.

It's some kind of sorcery!

The best kind, he's one of Aluvar's!

Aluvar...

Come here, bird, you must have a message for me! I could use word from my dear friend! Finally, the sun may shine through this gloomy that surrounds me!

Yes, your majesty!

I say, he's polite enough.

Bluervo flies over, landing on the arm of the King's throne.

Ah, I see it here. The King reaches over and removes the vial from Bluervo's neck, retrieves the note and begins reading. Ah, yes, I should have known.

You aren't upset?

Upset? This is fantastic news! Yes, absolutely fantastic!

Well, of course it is. I knew how pleased you'd be, that's why I flew all this way!

Bluervo glances over at Vrend and can't help but feel that they've met before, and he wasn't impressed by the experience.

That wasn't exactly the entire message, your majesty. Aluvar was in a hurry and added a portion he didn't feel safe entrusting to paper, a portion that I am to share with you... privately.

Oh, this is ridiculous! You're talking to a bird and now he wants to speak privately!

Vrend storms across the room, approaching the throne.

This bird and his master are my business, and just maybe I need to make a point of attending to things personally after all. You are dismissed, Vrend! As are you, Holcroft and Parn. We'll speak later.

Yes, your majesty.

As you wish, my lord.

BAH! Vrend storms out of the room ahead of the others. Once everyone has left, Bluervo leans in towards the King.

What is this additional message?

There isn't really one. Well, not from Aluvar. It's just... well... I have a feeling.

A feeling? Tell me more.

There is a traitor in the castle. Maybe more than one. Trust no one.

I thought as much and have felt it myself. This invasion is being coordinated from within these very walls, I know it. That is why I need your help.

My help?

Yours. You're the only, um, person I can trust. Person. Well. You know what I mean.

I do. What is it you wish of me?

The King and Bluervo speak quietly for quite some time and then part company, each with a plan.

Tyrius decided to tag along with Teythar's new reinforcements, he got 50 dwarves together and nodded to Thorius,

"Take the rest back to Eradim, I'm going to find out what's attacking Vineland", Thorius saluted and ran off.

Tyrius wandered over to Teythar,

"Mind if we tarry along?" asked the Dwarf.

Location: L13 (Majestic Tower)

Meanwhile in Majestic Tower, Master Wizard Pent summoned Lord Calvin into the hall. “Lord Calvin, I have a task for you. Travel to Dragon Masters Kingdom and pass this letter to the Supreme Councilor, Dragonator personally. He will understand the situation once he read the letter.” said Master Pent. Lord Calvin thinks to himself for a while and asked. “Dragon Masters? But, why? Are we facing a grave situation? Or is Kenneth facing danger at the moment. Kristine is on his way to assist him. I am sure the reinforcements will aid him well.”

Master Pent turned his back and looked at his crystal ball, sigh and said “I seen through the Light and I foresee that Kenneth and the others may faced danger. My position is unable to assist him at all. Therefore, I am seeking our allies. Furthermore, Dragonator has something in possession, which might help us in great advantage. It does not matter whether both kingdoms have misunderstandings in the past. They are still proved to be great allies to our kingdom.”

Lord Calvin answered “Master, I will follow your instructions, only to benefit Kenneth and the others. Master, Dragon Masters and Black Knights used to be a kingdom together. The split did not happen overnight. Master Pent immediately interrupt Lord Calvin and said “Enough, I maybe old but I am definitely not senile. Believe in my judgment.” Lord Calvin said no more, nodded his head and left the Tower, setting to gear up his entourage.

Black Knights territory

Outskirts of a small town that lies in the shadow of Majestic Tower

A village! Now, maybe we can get some rest!

Yes, that would be highly advisable, given what lies ahead.

I hate it when you say things like that.

Grandoth brings the carriage to a stop in front of a blacksmith's shop. I'm going to have the carriage checked out before we begin the longest portion of the trip. We won't have many more opportunities.

Hmmm, oh yes, right, next gas station 50 miles.

Gas station?

Aluvar and Alyss begin walking toward a small market, in search of food and information. Alyss is dressed a bit too well for the occasion and attracts a little attention, but mostly the villagers are too busy with their own worries to be concerned with visitors.

I'm going to make a few... discrete inquiries. Then I think we should attempt to contact an old pupil of mine.

Do we have to? All of your students were creepy. :hmpf:

You were one of my students.

Point taken. Still, who is it?

Pent Heartstorm. A master wizard now.

I don't remember him.

He was long before your time, my dear. He only visited once after finishing his studies, and I sent for him that time.

Really? When was that?

When you mother was ill. I summoned all of my old students and everyone I knew who could be of any help.

I know you couldn't have done any more than you did.

Dammit, that isn't the point! None of us could stop it! We couldn't even identify the source! We failed her. I failed her. :cry_sad:

Don't...

Aluvar and Alyss continue walking, passing a number of stalls and a beggar who sneers at them. :hmpf_bad:

Keep walking.

I was planning to.

Oh. Well, hurry it up a bit.

Um, sure.

Turn right. Now, follow me!

Aluvar dashes down the alleyway with a surprising burst of speed. Alyss is surprised, but quickly catches up to him.

What are we doing?

You'll see!

Aluvar makes a quick right, then another, bringing them towards the same corner they had previously passed. The beggar is now talking to someone dressed in a black cloak.

Just as I suspected.

What?

That's no beggar. Dressed as you are, it's obvious you have money, but he didn't even approach you. Instead he looked at us with hate and now he's talking to that mysterious figure. We're being watched, my dear. Someone knew we were coming.

Well, it hasn't exactly been a secret. The King, Sir Kwiras, those soldiers back on the road, they all knew.

As did the demon.

True. Do you think they're part of all of this?

They're part of something, and I intend to find out what. Double back and find Grandoth. Have him at the ready, a couple of streets east of here. I have a plan.

On my way.

Alyss goes back down the alley. Aluvar continues watching the beggar and his companion, trying to get closer in hopes of overhearing something. Just then, he notices a pink bird sitting directly over the beggar.

Aha! Pinky! Always the nosy one, and now it will come in handy!

Knowing that the matter is well in hand, Aluvar steps back into the shadows to wait for an opportunity. It comes quickly. The dark figure nods at the beggar and steps away, disappearing into a crowd across the street. Aluvar approaches the beggar, stepping directly in front of him.

I say, you're not really a beggar, just what are you?

The beggar, knowing that he has been discovered, runs in the opposite direction, into the waiting arms of Grandoth. He struggles a bit, but can't overpower the knight. Alyss smirks at him.

So, what do you say we find somewhere quiet to have a little chat about your master.

I-I-I have no master. I'm a lowly beggar.

We both know that's a lie. We can do this the easy way or the hard way.

Oh oh, the hard way, please!

D-d-don't hurt me! I'd talk, I would, but I can't! I can't!

You seem to be doing just fine so far. Tell me what I want to know.

M-m-my life. It's no good if I talk to you!

Grandoth tightens his grip on the beggar, paying special attention to his neck.

How good do you think it is now?

I-I-I don't know much. Not here. Not in the street.

He's right about that, we're attracting attention we don't need.

That's true. Grandoth, perhaps you would be so kind as to escort our guest to the carriage. We'll be there shortly.

My pleasure.

Aluvar and Alyss depart, walking north until they reach a small bookstore.

A bookstore, in a town this size?

Of course my dear, there's a wizard in that tower.

Right. Bring the product to the nearest available customer.

Excellent memory you have.

That was one of your first rules of commerce.

I'm pleased you remember.

I remember everything you taught me. It always seemed like anything I heard you say, I couldn't forget.

Aluvar and Alyss enter the dark, musty store. An elderly gentleman is seated behind a desk, holding a quill.

Hello, good sir! You look like an educated man, could you be here to buy something?

Well, I certainly hope so, why else would I enter a bookstore?

You'd be surprised. Those commoners are always coming in looking for fruit or pigs or something. They don't understand.

Yes, well, public education is a few hundred years off.

I hear you. If it even happens then.

Oh, it does.

You seem so certain.

Erm. Here is my list. Aluvar pulls a small piece of paper out of his pocket and scribbles down a few lines. He hands it to the store owner.

Oh my, this is quite a list, but I think we have all of it.

I'm sure. We're in a bit of a hurry as well.

Yes sir, right away sir. I haven't had a day like this in ages.

Doesn't Master Pent visit occasionally? Surely he's a good customer, in such close proximity.

Oh no sir, he never leaves the tower. He's too old and frail, the geezer.

Too old? He's less than half my age!

Is he? That's amazing!

Yes, well, I've been lucky. So, you say he is in poor health?

That is what the town gossip says, though I don't pay it no mind.

Of course not. Those books, if you would be so kind.

Right away!

The shopkeeper scurries off with surprising speed, invigorated by the promise of payment, returning with a stack of books a few minutes later.

If you'll tell me where you're staying, I'll have these delivered.

That won't be necessary.

Aluvar picks up a nearby chair and whacks the shopkeeper, rendering him unconscious.

ALUVAR! What are you doing? You can't rob a kindly old shopkeeper!

That's true. Good thing I haven't.

You're not making any sense!

Look around, my dear. Take in your surroundings.

Oh no, not this again. I hate it when you do this.

Go on.

Fine.

Alyss becomes very still, looking at everything around her, listening to the sound, smelling the odors, taking in the shop, detail by detail, remembering all she'd experienced since they entered the shop. She glances at the shopkeeper's slumped body, his hands at his side, his face in a contorted expression.

Oh. He isn't the owner of the store. His hands, those are the hands of a farmer. He's never written a thing in his life. From the look of that handwriting, I'd say the real owner is left handed, and he was holding the quill in his right. Did I miss anything?

Just a couple of things.

Really? I don't see how.

Well, for one, I wrote down the name of the birds on that list he dropped when I whacked him. You can just see it from here.

Oh, well.

For another, that cloak on the wall over there.

Same one from earlier! Talking to the beggar! AAAAAH, I can't believe I missed that! :sceptic:

Finally, I know the shopkeeper. Known him for years.

How could I have known that?

You couldn't.

Aluvar and Alyss drag the shopkeeper into the backroom and tie him up.

He won't talk, it isn't worth waiting for him to wake up.

Aluvar digs through the man's pockets, finding a pouch of gold.

Ah, it would seem that we are very important to someone. I think I know who. Back to the carriage.

What about your books?

I didn't want any books. I only came here to hit him in the head.

It's a good thing I know you, or I'd take you seriously.

I'm being serious. We were being watched. Instead of becoming panicked when we disappeared down that alley, they simply had a little chat and then he wandered off. He knew I would come here, so he arrived first, knocked out the real owner and took his place. Since I knew that they knew that this was the only place I would visit, I did.

Yes, I see what you mean.

Speaking of which, if you would be so kind as to open that closet.

Alyss reaches over and opens the closet. The bound and gagged shopkeeper falls out, glances up at Aluvar, and tries to smile. :classic:

Hello Lorst, it's been a while. Here, you can use this more than we can, just tell him we took it. Aluvar tosses the pouch of gold next to the still bound shopkeeper. Could you untie him?

Oh, right. Alyss unties the shopkeeper who tells them the whole story, which doesn't amount to much more than being hit on the head and waking up in a closet, then they leave. Aluvar and Alyss return to the carriage. The beggar doesn't tell them anything particularly useful, but Pinky fills them in on the details he overheard.

Let him go, he is unimportant. We will find an inn and rest for the evening. In the morning, I will go see Pent.

After failing the ambush on Siloux, Dragor travels west to beat down his frustration on some undeads. Right after a few slaughters he

After their rest, Siloux continues along. He rode and rode, until....

WARNING: Extreme Danger. Be Cautious.

Well that's strange. It looks like it was just stuck in here. I better take this moment to bless my arrows, may that blessing give me strength to go through here unharmed.

Siloux reaches an opening of the forest. A vast plain lies ahead.

At the southern part of Green Valley, there came a white steed that move slowly into the lands of Black Knights Kingdom. The rider observed the surroundings with an eagle eye and smells the wind that is blowing towards them. The cloak on the rider’s head was blew away and revealed was a lady whom has long brown hair. She tied her hair up and thinks to herself and said “Jessie, don’t you think that it is too quiet?” Jessie nodded her head and trod slowly into the valley. The rider said “There is no one nearby. Wait a minute!” The rider halts Jessie and she looked far ahead of the path. “It seemed that we have a visitor in front of us. Jessie, let’s said hello to the visitor.” The rider said, and she rode Jessie as fast as she could, hoping that the visitor will be able to provide some clue to her.

You are correct. I'm from the Forestman's country (?) I am Siloux de Fraun, I was once a salesman, but have now become an adventurer. Say, would you happen to know what has happened here? I have seen notices on the border and it seems very deserted.

Who might you be?

“Nice meeting you, Siloux. Well my name is Diana. I can’t tell you my surname because I am rather shy about it. I am from Black Knights Kingdom and I am heading back home now. But it seemed that the road ahead of us is too quiet. It used to be a bustle filled with civilians carrying commodities for trade and woodcutters cutting down trees. Now, there are none in sight. Oh, I almost forget. Meet Jessie. She is one of the finest steeds in this kingdom.” Jessie raises her legs and stomp the ground, acknowledge the welcome to the stranger.

Most certainly...she is very beautiful. This is my horse, Lesieu.

Lesieu does the same.

Black Knights Kingdom...that's not a region I have heard of before. Anyway, Diana, that is very interesting to know. Would it be too much to ask...if I could join you on your journey towards home? For the sake of our safety, I think teaming up would help, especially whatever has happened here. Besides, I have no destination, I could use a good destination!

Diana looked at Siloux and said “Sure. Why not? I will definitely enjoy a companion in my journey.” Diana smiled and looked at the sky “I had been away from home for too long. I wonder if any have changed. Anyway, I am heading towards the Capital. What is your actual destination? I am sure you have one in mind. Let’s not waste time and get moving.” Diana rode onto Jessie, smiled and said “We will have our conversation on the move.”

That sounds good.

Siloux mounts onto his horse. They begin to move.

Strange as it is, I truly had no true destination. I decided, after tragedies of being robbed and having my store burned down, I became an adventurer. I headed North, to these upper regions, for no particular reason. I hoped that adventure would come to me. And it did!

That's pretty much my story a for me getting here.

If I may so inquire, what has brought you out and back into your homeland?

Posted (edited)

Location: L14 (Southern exit of Green Valley)

“I am sorry to hear of your tragic plight. I am sure things will change for a better. Cheer up, Siloux. You will deserve a unique adventure that truly belongs to you. Maybe up in the Northern lands, you will find something that you might least expected that will change your life for the better.” Diana smiled and assured Siloux with a pad on his back.

Diana thought to herself deeply and looked at Siloux. “Why I left my homeland? Time flies and I am away from my home for 3 years to search my dream and pursuit my own training methods. My parents always objected me into becoming a ranger right from the start. They don’t understand how I feel and what I think. I disliked when they planned for my future since when I was born. I don’t even have my say at all. What I really love is the forest that lies within deep in every kingdom. Experiencing the natural wonder of life gives me the power to move on in my life. That is the reason why I took 3 years and travel across the lands and master the art of ranger in different kingdom. I believe when I returned to my parents, they will not think of me as a little girl anymore. I have grown up to be someone whom is independent and not dependent on others anymore.” Siloux looked at her in a very surprising manner. Diana’s appearance became blush and said “Guess I spoke a little too much for you to handle.”

Khamul, (Q,19)

Boom. Bom. Boom. Bom. Boom. Bom. Boom. Bom. Great muscular hands beat upon the drum. Boom. Bom. Boom. Bom. The Troll continued to hit the drum, content for now. It wouldn't be long until the great oaf would begin to play in the manner of a drunk bard again, however. That big, ugly, horrid thing. I've always hated Trolls. Always. Even before one took off my leg. I heard creaks across the crude wooden floor. I glanced up. Stunty approached me, grumbling.

"What now?" I asked.

"The captain's started talking to his whip.."

"Again? That's the fifth time this week!"

"Yeah. I really hate that whip. The cap'n forced me to make dinner for it. It refused to eat anything, just sat there, thinking it was so special..."

"Oh well, we'll be done with him in a month's time. I heard that Krult is taking over command of the ship -"

"Krult!" A voice burst out from the cabin, "That little fool?"

Captain Gerarkh came storming out, his face red with fury. Has ears like a fox, does Gerarkh.

"That young lad couldn't win a coin toss, let alone a naval battle. No, I will stay in charge of this ship. I was the one who turned the Orclands into a naval superpower to begin with!"

Gerarkh's dull grey eyes stared around at the silent crew.

"Right, then. Well.. well.. well, well-well-well-well-well.. You there. The short one. Come. Teach my whip how to operate the ballista. He's going to be the admiral one day, you know.."

Stunty sighed, and waddled along behind Gerarkh.

I stared out at the ever-darkening sky, contrasted by the bright moon, and the shimmering stars surrounding it. Like most Orcs, I'd never thought much of nature and all that, yet tonight I was intrigued by the dancing glistening lights in the black sky, the great white ball rolling slowly past them. I never thought much of poetry either, but I'd like to keep it that way. I looked back across at the rowers, now throwing their oars about, anything but synchronised. That blasted Troll had started drumming out some silly song again. Boom, Boom, Boom-Bom-Boom-Bom-Boom-BOM! Bom-Bombombombombom..BOM! A quick crack of the whip on the Troll's back quickly put him in place. Boom. Bom. Boom. Bom. The Orcs began rowing as usual. That's better.

Black Knights territory

Base of Majestic Tower

The carriage containing our group has arrived at the front gate of the tower. Grandoth calls down to Aluvar, who comes up and sits beside him.

Well, this is it, the home of my former student. I'm sure he'll be surprised to see me.

Really? Shouldn't a wizard know when another is near?

Sometimes, but I don't exactly allow my full aura to be projected, so I'm hard to detect. It tends to reduce complications in life.

I didn't know that was possible.

Oh, a great many things are possible in this life, it's all a matter of discovering them. I suppose I should approach the gate alone.

Do you think it's safe?

Safe as anything else on this journey.

That isn't encouraging.

Aluvar winks at Grandoth and hops down from his seat. Approaching the gate, Aluvar is met by a force of armoured guards, led by an ill-tempered looking man named Flynt.

That'll be far enough. Just you turn around and go back where you came, we don't want you here.

You don't know who I am, or why I'm here, so you can't possibly know that you don't want me here.

We don't want any of your kind and we ain't buying what you're selling.

Do I look like a salesman to you?

Actually, you look like a tired old man who wants to seem important by wearing a big hat.

Tired old man?!?!?! I'll have you know that for all of my 190 years, I could still double you over my knee for a spanking, you insolent whelp!

Oh ho, maybe not so tired after all! Now go away!

I will not. I am here on the business of the Crown Kingdom and am the officially recognised Voice of the King.

Well, I am impressed now. You're the voice of the crown king, standing in Black Knight territory. Go away.

I really don't want to do it this way, but if you insist.

Aluvar mumbles a few words, lowering his aura shield. From high in the tower, Master Pent Heartstorm immediately senses the presence of his old master below. He glances over at King Nexus Mac Arthur.

Oh my. What could he want? Why is he here, and how did he get so close before I sensed him?

Who? What are you babbling about?

My old master. He is at the gate and that idiot Flynt is giving him a hard time.

Well, that is his job.

Yes, but this is Aluvar we're talking about.

Aluvar? Never heard of him. Should I be impressed?

You will be, I guarantee it. He's a very highly placed wizard with great powers, despite his advanced age.

What, he's old like you?

No, he must be nearly 200 by now.

Really? Sounds interesting. We could always use another antique around here. Send down word to open the gate and bring him up, I want to meet him.

Uh, yes your majesty, I shall see to it personally.

Master Pent rises slowly and begins the long trip to the front gate, where we see Aluvar, beginning to look annoyed.

I don't see where you did anything there.

You will.

Right. I've had enough of this. Men, escort this carriage over the cliff, with them aboard it.

SIR, YES SIR!

The guards begin to approach Aluvar. Grandoth jump down next to him, sword in hand.

Oh, how noble, but unnecessary. Please, step back, I'll take care of them personally.

Aha, you hear that lads, the geezer is going to "take care of us personally." Oooh, I'm scared now!

You shouldn't push him.

Push him? We're going to push all of you off the cliff in a minute.

Not likely.

Aluvar produces a wand which he waves toward Flynt.

Omnilox vominus, harbingus fleet.

Nothing happens.

Now you're going to curse at me? I shall enjoy throwing you off personally.

Just as he finishes speaking, Flynt begins to lift off of the ground until he is floating above his men.

LET ME DOWN! AAAAAH! THIS IS SOME KIND OF...

Sorcery.

MASTER PENT! HELP ME!

You deserve exactly what you're getting, fool. ALUVAR! You old scoundrel, what are you doing here?

PENT! I knew you'd recognise my unique aura, but this lad didn't seem interested in what I had to say, so I just figured I'd wait for you to come down.

He's as stupid as he is strong.

HEY!

I don't know, he doesn't look that strong. Shall I let him down? :hmpf_bad:

If you wish, no matter to me.

Maybe I should toss him over the cliff?

WHAT?

The King wouldn't approve, and you're not really the sort.

True. Well then...

Aluvar breaks the spell quickly, dropping Flynt on top of his men, who crash to the ground in a pile.

Ah haha, it's been a long time since I've enjoyed one of your little tricks. Too long. I know I should have visited, but I just ...

I know. You were just too jealous after she was named... well, you know.

I never held it against her, she really was the best, but after we couldn't save her...

Not so loud. Her daughter is in the carriage. She doesn't know any of this.

You must tell her!

I will, when the time is right. It is why I've come.

I heard reports that you might be in town, but the informants were too scared to be perfectly clear on the subject. I hoped it was you, I even had a feeling about it, but just couldn't sense you.

They hit poor Lornt and tied him up in a closet.

Aha, serves him right for overcharging me all these years.

Pent! You rascal! It's good to see you again!

The King wishes to meet you.

I can't imagine what I've done to deserve that honour, but I suppose I have time. We shall talk on the way. I trust that your men will leave my party alone while we're inside.

Oh, I'm sure of that.

Well, just in case...

Aluvar hands Grandoth his wand.

If they give you any trouble, zap them with this.

Yes, sir!

Flynt and his men look up from the pile in terror. As they finally untangle themselves, they resume their positions guarding the gate. They all step back as Aluvar and Pent pass, warily watching Grandoth who begins fiddling with the wand.

You know that won't work for him, of course.

Of course.

Now, here is the situation...

Aluvar and Pent discuss recent events, including a retelling of the Black Wraith Demon encounter, in which Aluvar praises Lord Kenneth for taking a stand against the accursed beast. Aluvar advises Pent to see to it that all of the local commanders are appraised of the situation and made to understand the nature of the enemy. Pent agrees with this decision, finally understanding that the source of his recent cloudy vision was, in fact, Aluvar's masked aura. Relieved that it wasn't being caused by another, more sinister source, he assures Aluvar that he will do all he can to guard the territories personally. He explains his plans, which seem quite reasonable to Aluvar.

Yes, I think that is your best choice in the matter. I, however, am forced to take more drastic measures.

Drastic? What do you have in mind?

I'm going to retrieve ... it.

It? You mean the ... no ... you can't!

I have to. This evil is greater than any of our powers. If we can't stop it now, we never will.

I have sensed that, but you can't even use it... only she could.

No. That isn't entirely true.

You mean... her daughter? It's too great a risk, she is untrained.

Not untrained, just not fully trained yet. I can teach her, you know I can.

Yes, if anyone can, it's you. Still, it's a lot to learn in a short time.

I have already been working on it, she's coming along well, I just haven't let her know why.

If she learns too quickly, she could be sensed, and all would be lost.

Exactly.

Master Pent opens the door to the King's throne room and escorts Aluvar inside.

So, this is your friend, the old relic?

Old relic? You know, I'm not above giving you the Flynt treatment.

What did you do to him?

I just cooled his temper a bit.

That seems hard to picture.

It was quite hilarious, your majesty.

Yes, well, I understand that you are representing the Crown kingdom?

I am the Voice of the Crown King, as specified in this letter.

No need, I already knew about that, I received word yesterday from Tiberius himself. He sends his best wishes and says that he trusts that you will protect his most valuable treasure, though I haven't any idea what he means.

I do, and I will.

Good good, is there anything we can do to assist you?

Yes, there is. Assign Flynt to escort me out of your territory.

WHAT?

WHAT?

I said that.

Yes, well...

Are you serious?

Of course I am. He's loyal to you, moreso than any other of your men, but he's hot headed and ill mannered. With some training, he could become a valuable asset to your kingdom.

And you're the one to train him?

I believe so.

It will be as you wish. He'll be thrilled, I'm sure.

Can I give him the orders?

And spoil my fun? Not a chance. You may, however, personally tell him that I need to see him about the Aluvar incident. That should be enjoyable enough for you.

Oh yes, your majesty, yes indeed!

Master Pent leaves to retrieve Flynt, Aluvar stays with the King.

He's a good man, you know.

He will be once you train him.

No, I mean Pent. He's a good wizard, he means well, and he's much stronger than he looks.

I suppose. He just has no life to him, no spirit.

He hasn't since the death of the Crown Queen. He... we, did all we could for her.

I remember her illness, but never understood why you wizards took such an interest.

We had our reasons, good ones. I cannot explain further. Rest assured, Pent will do his best to protect your kingdom.

I believe you. I need to let him know that I believe in him, I suppose.

Yes, I think that would help.

Master Pent arrives with Flynt. Flynt looks terrified.

I will take my leave now, it has been a pleasure. Please see that the package is sent down to my carriage, and we will be off.

Oh yes, the package. It will be right down, as soon as I finish with Flynt here. Flynt trembles in fear.

Aluvar and Pent leave the room, closing the door behind them.

WHAAAAAAAAAT?????????

Hmmm. Seems he's been informed of his new orders.

The two wizards head downstairs, laughing all the way.

M9 Gerbain; The Crown Inn

Dragonator turned from the window to face Galcor.

For the last time, I will be fine, now go sleep in the other room with Mark, he doesn't smell that bad.

You don't know the half of it master. When he takes off his boots-

And I don't want to know. I trust that you delivered the letter?

Yes Lord, the old man almost died on the spot when I tapped him on the shoulder. He was sleeping on the porch.

Ah, it will do him some good to get a bit of exercise. Hopefully he will have everything for me when we come back this way.

I will see you in the morning master. You are sure you don't want me too-

NO!

Fair enough.

Galcor left, closing the door behind him. Walking over to his baggage, Dragonator pulled out a small drawstring bag, and checking it's contents were still secure, placed it in his pocket.

I wouldn't want to lose you. Now it is time for bed.

Dimming the lamps, Dragonator moved towards his bed. Instead of getting into it though, he stood next to the open window, behind the draped curtains. An hour passed. Then another. A slight rustle came from outside, and a figure dropped through the window from the roof. As he moved towards the bed, Dragonator pulled out the package and swung it around, smacking the to-be assassin in the head. He crumpled to the floor, knocking over a large candle stand by the washbasin. Turning over the man, Dragonator found that as he had fallen he had bitten into a small pallet of poison held under his tongue; clearly these people did not accept failure.

What was the commotion? questioned Galcor as he burst through the door.

Nothing I couldn't handle, I expected this man last night. It seems not everyone in the castle wants this to go through.

So you got rid of me so you could just hit him yourself?! Why do I always miss out on the action?

If you had been there he would not have visited. We now know for certain that something is up. Tomorrow we will ride hard to get to the Dromindur, I need to talk with a few people before the meeting commences. For now, back to bed.

Yes master...

Meanwhile...

L7 Dragons Keep; Adym's Work Room, below the dungeons.

It was quite down there. Not a whisper could be heard, but the steady scribbling of Adym's pencil. Grim looked around. Was that a noise at the door? But it couldn't be. Nobody came down here. Settling in behind a barrel, Grim decided to take a quick nap.

The Shadow slipped out from his hiding place. Now was his chance to be rid of this dangerous man. Sneaking forward, he crept up behind Adym, producing from under his robe a long, curved dagger. Suddenly Adym turned, grabbing the blade in his hand.

Not so fast, you fiend. You forget that this arm is made of metal.

Oh damn...

Adym swung and struck the Shadow full in the face. He fell to the floor, writhing in pain. Grim staggered out from behind the barrel, still waking up. Wah?...

Being quick with his hands, Adym tied up the prisoner, carefully removing a small pallet from his mouth. Now he better talk, or something messy is going to take place.

The Shadow set his jaw in determination, ready for the interrogation...
