Fershwitz Boran was strong, as all Orcs were. Though not skilled fighters there was not a man alive who could beat an Orc in pure strength terms. It was this strength that allowed Fershwitz to remove the ropes that bound him while the Crown soldiers scattered to and fro. He was scared for his life, and was waiting for an opportune moment, and so held the rope around him still tightly, giving the appearance that he was still tied up. He was just ready to make his move when he spotted out the corner of his eye a skeleton movement...

Location: L11 (In Red Valiant Fortress)

After days of riding, Lord Calvin arrived at his fortress in the Northern border between Black Falcon, Fright Knights and Dragon Masters which is known as Red Valiant Fortress. Red Valiant Fortress is a vital strategic defensive location in the northern part of Black Knights Kingdom. Troops are stationed at various key installations to ensure that trade routes between these countries are moving in a smooth flow. More importantly, Red Valiant Force is to act as deterrence between the countries to ensure that there will be no conflict of interest.

“My Lord, you have returned from the Capital. How was the trip?” Sir Jonathan walked forward welcoming his lord back. Lord Calvin sighed and said “Jonathan, its bad. The southern borders are under attack by a mysterious group of Black Wraith Demons. Lord Kenneth and the rest of White Fang are actively deployed at the region.” Jonathan was shocked by the news and abrupt the conversation “I have seen those foul demons before. They are not mortal foes. Only special magical weapons or powers are able to vanquish those demons permanently.” Lord Calvin said “I guess that will be the next mission objective. Master Pent had dispatched me for a mission to Dragon Keep, to meet with the Senior Councilor, Dragonator to pass him this letter personally. Jonathan, when I am away, you are the overall commander of Red Valiant Fortress.”

Sir Jonathan bowed down and said “Yes, my Lord.” Lord Calvin added “Please organized a task force which must compromised of Karen Lyses and Lee Dawn for this mission. Tell them to meet me at the northern end of the border between our kingdom and Dragon Master.” Sir Jonathan understood Lord Calvin’s instruction, nodded his head and said “My Lord, I will get to it right away.” Sir Jonathan went to make provisions for his Lord.

Lord Calvin pondered on the ground and think to himself “This may not be an easy mission. It seemed I will need to bring it.”

L7 Dragons Keep; Adym's Work Room, below the dungeons.

It was quite down there. Not a whisper could be heard, but the steady scribbling of Adym's pencil. Grim looked around. Was that a noise at the door? But it couldn't be. Nobody came down here. Settling in behind a barrel, Grim decided to take a quick nap.

The Shadow slipped out from his hiding place. Now was his chance to be rid of this dangerous man. Sneaking forward, he crept up behind Adym, producing from under his robe a long, curved dagger. Suddenly Adym turned, grabbing the blade in his hand.

Not so fast, you fiend. You forget that this arm is made of metal.

Oh damn...

Adym swung and struck the Shadow full in the face. He fell to the floor, writhing in pain. Grim staggered out from behind the barrel, still waking up. Wah?...

Being quick with his hands, Adym tied up the prisoner, carefully removing a small pallet from his mouth. Now he better talk, or something messy is going to take place.

The Shadow set his jaw in determination, ready for the interrogation...

Continued...

Adym stared at the would-be assassin and started yelling questions at him.

All right, I'm gonna ask you some questions, and I'd really appreciate it if you would answer them truthfully. I know you're honour bound and what not, but technically there is physically nothing to stop you from talking, well, not yet anyway... I may even make it impossible for you to swallow, then instead of taking the coward's way out and popping one of these pills like you were planning on, you'd die a painful and slow death of starvation. Of course, you'd be chained up here, see, so you wouldn't be able to die 'with honour any other way. And we wouldn't feed you. Hah. And we'd smash your hands so you couldn't hope of escaping. Well, I'd smash your hands, because I have the mechanical arm. Now, where was I? Oh yes...

Who are you?! Who sent you?! How'd you get in? How'd you know I was down here?! Why were you here? Well, I guess that one's obvious, eh? Heh. Now, let's see, where; here, we know that, who; you, still don't know, what; trying to assassinate me, when; clearly now, or just a short moment ago, why; still don't know that, and how; well, apparently with this knife.

Adym picked up the discarded blade and crumbled it in his hand.

Now, Grim, can you add more ropes to this guy, make it nice and tight, and maybe some chains too, yes. And to be sure, I'll wrap this metal pole around him, oh wait, that won't work, I only have one mechanical arm. Hmph. Well, just get more chains then. Thanks!

Adym turned to face the assassin again.

Still don't feel like talking?

The assassin stared coldly at Adym, with an unwavering, dull eyes. Adym waited for an answer, already knowing he wouldn't get one. With a sigh and a knowing roll of his eyes, Adym wrapped a cloth around his metal fist and looked the assassin in the eyes, and answered the unasked question.

You know, to stop the blood getting on my fist. I just polished it this morning.

And with that, Adym sent a mighty wallop into the assassin's gut, with a slightly disgusting sound of tearing flesh and a crack which Adym knew would be a rib. Adym discarded the know crimson stained rag and examined his still shining fist, while the assassin coughed and wheezed, wincing in pain and rocking side to side on the ground

Ah, still good and sparkling. Although I didn't mean to crack your rib. I was saving that for later. Anywho, I guess you're not really in the mood for talking right now.

Adym grabbed a cloth and pressed it against the gash in the assassin's belly, then wrapped some more rags around the assassin to hold the cloth in place. He then fastened a plank of wood to the assassin's back, forcing him to lie straight causing him to moan in pain.

That'll do for now, I'll wait 'till the pin goes from sharp and excruciating to painful throbbing. Then we'll do that again. If you don't answer, we'll continue this, until you die of internal bleeding. No wait, you'd like to die to end all this wouldn't you? Well then, we'll continue this until you're in a critical state, where I will slice you open and sew up your organs my self. :sweet: Sound good?

For the first time, Adym saw a hint of fear in the assassin's eyes.

:: It's not long after the defeat of the ten Inferno Cavalry when the artillery bombardment starts. Large stones and flaming bundles of pitch begin falling in and around the Eastern Outpost. Mixed in among the deadly projectiles are a number of burning barrels. As the barrels hit the ground and break open, the fire ignites the straw and oil soaked cotton stuffed into them that serves as cushioning for the Inferno Infantry inside.

The few Skeletons that survive the flight and landing without shattering their bones quickly light themselves in the fires and begin attacking the nearest Crown soldiers or civilians. More then a few of them inside the outpost walls. ::

Gerargh

Borikh

Gerargh, (N-22)

Gerarkh.jpg

Gerargh looked around his cabin curiously. No one there. No one is there. He marched around the room, swaying in the manner of a drunk ox as he went. He suddenly paused in front of a cabinet, and hastily grabbed a candle from one one the shelves. He lit it just as hastily, before placing it on the old wooden table before him. He looked around once more. No one was there. No one but his whip. Just stay quiet and it won't take notice of you, he thought.

Gerargh produced a torn piece of cloth from his pocket, messily screwed up into a cylendar shape. He unravelled it carefully until it stretched across the table, revealing a map. Gerargh snatched a crescent-shaped knife that had long been rusted from the table. He silently studied the map before him, the knife dangling precariously from his left hand.

"Ah.." Gerargh examined the map closer, "Ah, hah, hah, hah, haha.."

Slowly and steadily, he lowered the knife blade towards the map. Once the tip lay against the surface of the map, he began to carefully move it, across the Undead Sea, towards the shores of the Elflands, and then..

Thud, thud, thud, thud, thud. Gerargh's head suddenly shifted to the door. His eyes stared widely, before drooping back to their normal size. The noise had startled him.

"Sir.."

"Come in, Borikh." Gerargh's loyal Commodore Borikh entered cautiously, fiddling with the hilt of the sword sheathed in his boar hide belt.

"What is it you wish to discuss, Borikh?"

Borikh suddenly stood straight, tightening his grip on the sword hilt. His face was stern and his voice unfaultering.

"Well sir, the crew are getting tired. We can't keep sailing like this. We need to rest. There is a port on the shores of the Skeletonlands not far from here. Perhaps-"

"No, we are doing fine. We don't need rest. We have the wind behind us."

"But sir, we could face a-" Gerargh swiftly rose to his feet, interrupting Borikh once more.

"I have orders from the Great Chieftain himself. Orders that will change the course of the War in our favour. We will descend upon the great port of the Crown Kingdom and capture it... And most certainly before that stinking rat Krult!" Gerargh's eyes flared with rage, "The over-extravagent, goat-loving, battle-fearing.." Gerargh stopped himself, his rambling would do nothing to help him gain the upper hand over Krult. His actions, however, may. "Sorry, I seem to have gone off track," He attempted to recollect his thoughts.

Borikh, (N-22)

Borikh.jpg

Borikh was usually patient towards Gerargh, but today he was in no mood for one of his Krult-hating rants. He too was tired. Keeping the crew in order was a tough job.

"Sir.." he started, "the Crown Port?"

"Ah yes.." Gerargh turned back to his map, his weathered old finger shifting from region to region, "Once we capture the port, the Crown Kingdom's trade will be crippled, their ship production halted significantly. But not only this, we will open the way for Orc and Undead reinforcements, who will secure the foothold and assemble their armies. By now the Undead horde will have captured the Eastern Outpost, and will be on their way to the King's Castle, at which point our army at the port will meet with them and besiege the fools."

"All very well, sir.." Borikh began, sounding unconvinced, "but for now I suggest we head for Skeleton Port and stay there for the night. There we can repair the ship and rest the men."

"Ach! Ah, very well," Gerargh sighed, "Now go. Give the orders to the crew."

"I will, sir."

"Very well. Good day to you, Borikh."

Black Knights territory

Base of Majestic Tower

Flynt is overseeing a group of guards.

Load up the supplies, men, we're heading out in 10 minutes!

Sir, yes sir!

I didn't ask for all of these supplies.

Orders of the King, sir.

Sir?

Permission to speak freely, sir?

Certainly.

I don't like you. I don't like being made to look the fool in front of my men.

You did that yourself.

Perhaps so. Whatever the case, I have been given orders to protect and escort your party to the border of Dragon Masters territory, and I will do that at all costs, even my very life, but that doesn't mean I have to like you. I will, however, show all due respect. I don't know why you asked for me, but you must have had a reason.

Excellent. Call me Aluvar.

Yes sir, um, Aluvar. Thank you. :look:

Flynt looks over and notices that his men are paying more attention to his conversation than their duties.

Get back to work, you miserable lot! They'll be plenty of time for standing around while you're all pulling double duty tonight!

Grandoth walks over to Aluvar.

Well, seems he's coming along nicely. :hmpf:

Give him time.

The supplies fully loaded, Flynt gives final orders to his men and mounts his horse, Flak. The party resumes their journey north, making camp at the edge of L-11 at nightfall. The night is surprisingly uneventful, though Aluvar has a feeling that things are happening elsewhere.

K-18

Crown Castle

Throne Room

A thunderstorm covers the area. Tap, tap, tap.

That will be all Elgarth, please see to the matter personally, and tell the guard on duty that I am not to be disturbed under any circumstances.

Yes sir.

Elgarth, head of castle security and nephew of the King, leaves the throne room. King Tiberius crosses to the window and lets Bluervo in.

What took so long?

Don't be insolent, I'm still the King.

Yeah yeah, what took so long, Kingy, it's howling out there! Bluervo shakes the rain out of his feathers.

I was just meeting with Elgarth about castle security. How has your mission progressed?

Quite well, really. I've been paying special attention to all of the people you named, as well as the general staff and members of the royal family.

The family? Why? They are all above reproach!

Well... how about I give my report?

Begin.

I started with the council, mostly because I have my suspicions about Vrendt, but they all seemed to simply carry out their duties and live their lives, nothing unusual. Vrendt is dating Larissa, though he seems to be trying to keep it a secret.

Larissa?

The barmaid at the Cork and Crown.

Oh ho, the busty one, no doubt!

King Tiberius!

I'm the King, I'm supposed to keep a watchful eye for the safety and well-being of my people.

Uh huh, and I can see what you've been watching.

Ahem. continue...

Well, ok. She is pretty attractive, and ...

I meant with your report!

Right, sorry.

Bluervo finishes the King's list of suspects.

That's everyone from your council, through the entire ranks of guards and all the way down to the cooks.

And nothing? There is no traitor?

I didn't say that.

Who then?

Well, as I said, I also included your family in the surveillance.

Oh, yes.

Duke Holgar, while not very bright, is definitely not up to anything. Elgarth is thoroughly loyal, of this I have no question. His attention to detail and vigilance in performing his duties is admirable.

Good, good. But what of the traitor?

I don't know that I have found the traitor, but I have a few possibilities. Leith and Krant met with a number of shady characters, in places you wouldn't expect to see the royal Princes.

Hmmm... my sons are a little impatient to take over the kingdom, but traitors? I don't believe it!

Neither do I, actually. The shady characters were, in fact, mostly information brokers and gamblers.

What?

It would seem that they like to gamble a little too much, and aren't very good at it. They're being blackmailed by a number of people. I worry that this weakness could make them a security risk, but I find no evidence that they are disloyal.

I see. I will have this matter dealt with immediately. What of Rangdar, my eldest?

He is the most mysterious, to me. He seems to spend much of his time in the church, or visiting his aunt.

Countess Ravenia?

Yes. He's seen her three times since I began watching. On the last visit, he left carrying a pouch of something, though I haven't any idea what. She seems to spend all of her time gardening, though she has an odd taste in plants.

Oh yes, she's an herbalist. She grows many healing herbs as a hobby. She's always had an interest in such things.

I've been a lot of places and eaten a lot of plants, but she has things I don't recognise at all.

Is this important?

I'm not certain. I wish Aluvar was here, I could use his knowledge on the subject.

Have you considered visiting his friend, Hygand, in castle town?

The herbalist! You're a genius, Kingy!

Hmmm, yes. Thank you, I think.

I'm going to get right on that tomorrow! Oh, wait. How have your inquiries gone?

I sent word to the Black Knights to expect Aluvar, though I didn't give many details. I've had my men checking the villages in the area for disappearances, but so far, aside from those early attacks and few occasional incursions, there has been nothing particularly out of the ordinary.

Particularly, or nothing at all?

It's just that two of my most trustworthy knights have reported seeing ghosts near the Eastern Outpost.

Ghosts. They drinkers?

No, definitely not. I'm inclined to believe them, despite the oddness of the story.

I'll put my faith in you to know your men. So, aside from ghosts, has there been anything else?

Just one thing. Flangdor was seen visiting a number of local establishments, spending the night at different inns, and then he disappeared.

He left town?

He disappeared. He was being followed by one of my best men. He turned down an alley and disappeared.

He is a wizard, he could do that, I suppose, though he was never very good at it. Can you find out where this was?

I will have my man show you personally.

Thank you, I think I'd like to get a bird's eye view of the area.

It's late now, perhaps in the morning?

That would be perfect. I need some rest, it's been a long day of following people.

You may stay here, where it is dry, if you wish.

Thanks Kingy!

IF you don't ever call me that again!

Right, your majesty, sorry.

Bluervo finds a comfortable spot in the rafters and settles in for the night. The King retires to his chambers.

Gerargh, (N-22)

Gerarkh.jpg

Gerargh sat on the wooden hub of a seat, still studying his map. He had been known to do this for several days on end. It was well-known amongst the crew that their captain had long-since lost his sanity. Gerargh didn't care though. He was still in charge. He could do as he liked. He got satisfaction out of staring at his map. Memorising every curve in the landscape.. every trail of fading ink. He sat straight up now, agitated.

"No, no. I'm not congregating with you anymore." With that, Gerargh returned to his work, before quickly standing to his feet.

"I said 'no'! Why do you torment me?"

Silence.

"Do you know who you're talking to, lad?"

Silence.

"I'm the Admiral now. You can't do a thing to me." Satisfied with his firmness, Gerargh returned to his map.

Khamul, (M-22)

Khamul.jpg

"There it is lads," Borikh yelled out through the dense mist, "Skeleton Port!"

I didn't need the announcement to know me we were nearing - I could tell from the smell. Having lived in a village not far from the Land of the Undead, I knew the smells - rotting flesh, burning lava, unearthed old soil, toxic fumes - I knew all too well. All of a sudden I was feeling rather reluctant to stop here.

Once we had arrived at the port, we were met by a skeleton, it's dusty old beard drooping all the down to his hips. From above it shone two gleaming red eyes. The sinister things scanned our crew, before fixing on one. It's beard split open, revealing a hideous set of teeth.

"Ah, you must be the famous Gerargh," The skeleton spoke in a terrible booming croak.

"Yes. Yes that is me." Gerargh replied in what he hoped to be a calm yet strong voice, although it turned out as neither. We could all tell we was just as terrified as us.

"Your reputation is a great one, Admiral," the skeleton half-chuckled, "Please, allies, come. You may stay in my tavern for as long as you wish."

"Er, no thank you," the captain replied in his most polite voice, "We are fine in our ship. We are merely stopping by for the night. We must sail hastily."

"Ahahahah.. Very well then. Enjoy your stay in our lands nonetheless. I wish you all the best for your journeys, wherever you may go."

I shuddered. Ever since first seeing one when I was four, I had feared the skeletons. Perhaps it was the eyes. Perhaps their hideous smirk. All I knew for sure was that I didn't like them, and I'd be happy to be gone from this hellish place as soon as possible.

Borikh, (M-22)

Borikh.jpg

Borikh hesitated at the Admiral's door. Knock, knock. Gerargh glanced up from his map.

"Yes, Borikh?"

"Sir."

"What is it?"

"Well sir.."

"What?"

"I.. I thought you might want to know that.."

"Yes?"

"Well... Krult..." Gerargh's curiousity quickly shifted to outright furiosity.

"...Krult was attacked a week ago by Orc Pirates... Surrounded he was, outnumbered 5 to 1, they say..." Gerargh's face lit up.

"Yesss? Go on..."

"... He won."

"He what?"

"He won, sir. His ships managed to successfully break through the Pirate lines and board them. The Pirates were soon broken and routed. When he arrives back in the Orclands, he is expected to recieve a hero's welcome.." At that Gerargh swiped his drink off the table, spilling mead everywhere. Borikh stood silently as the Admiral recomposed himself.

"We are leaving at first light tomorrow. Prepare the men. A hero's welcome? Pah! My victory at Crown Port will soon put the fool's mild achievement to shame..."

Borikh, too tired to interrupt Geragh's monologue, exited the cabin and returned to his own. He had best get some rest before the coming days. He knew very well that the fight for the port would be long and bloody, and many of the crew would perish. The Crown Soldiers were famous throughout the Orclands for their determination and eagerness, and their quickness to adapt and react to situations. No matter. His first priority was to get some sleep.

Nearing the border of Black Falcon territory

Garsmar Bridge

West of Red Valiant Fortress

If you had known how easy the journey would be, I suppose you wouldn't have asked for the escort, eh?

No no, I'm glad you came. I think it has been a learning experience for all of us.

Yes, well, I'm actually pleased to have had the opportunity as well. Thank you, Aluvar.

You're welcome Flynt, most certainly.

It looks like this is where we part company. Once you cross Garsmar Bridge, you'll be in Black Falcon territory and I should go no further.

Indeed. Before you go, I have a message for the King.

Aluvar produces a lengthy letter from his sleeve and hands it to Flynt.

No peeking.

Haha, not all of us were born to wealth and learning, I can't read a word of it!

Oh, yes, I'm sorry, I forget sometimes.

It is no worry, my life is what I make it, and I feel like it will be even more now. I have no regrets.

Good lad, I'm quite proud of you. Now get going, there is dust blowing in the area and it's effecting my eyes.

Yes, I'm suffering a bit from it too. May your journey be rewarding and your days long!

Flynt rides off on Flak, disappearing from sight.

You really liked him, didn't you.

He was a good lad, he just needed a bit of help to see his potential.

You're a nice old man, you know that?

Oh, shush dear. Grandoth, let's go!

Yes sir, but it doesn't look like a very solid bridge.

It's fine lad, just fine.

If you say so.

The carriage begins crossing the bridge. As they are midway across, a Black Wraith Demon appears from out of the woods on the other side, as well as one behind them.

That's bad timing! Make haste Grandoth, get us across, even if you have to run the horses straight into that beast!

The horses, either from sheer fear of the sight ahead of them, or out of some animal instinct, rear up, panicked. Both demons conjur large fireballs which they hurl, not at the carriage, but at the bridge supports, collapsing the Garsmar bridge. As the carriage plunges into the gorge below, Aluvar attempts to cast a teleportation spell, but the overwhelming presence of evil in the area prevents him from successfully doing so.

With the exception of the birds, everyone dies.

What do we do now?

I don't know, I just don't know ...

*** You have died. ***

You scored 18 out of 100 points.

Oh well, it seems you deserve another chance ...

West of Red Valiant Fortress

Alyss wakes up with a start. Looking out the carriage window, she sees Flynt riding beside them.

Where are we?

Approaching Garsmar Bridge, miss.

Oh no, not again... ALUVAR! STOP THE CARRIAGE!

Grandoth stops the carriage, 100 yards short of Garsmar Bridge. Everyone gathers near the horses.

What dear? Is something wrong?

We're not crossing that bridge.

If we go around the gorge, it'll add several days to our journey.

I don't care, we can't cross that bridge, it's a trap.

A trap? What are you talking about?

I had a dream, a vision even. You gave Flynt a letter and he left. We started across the bridge. Demons attacked from both ends and we all plunged to our death.

How could you know about the letter ... It would seem we aren't crossing that bridge after all.

What of me? Do I continue on with you?

It would seem that we are going to be travelling west until we can find a suitable way across the gorge, or going completely around it.

Then you will be in Black Knight territory for at least another few days. I stay with you.

Excellent. Seems a new direction is in order, west Grandoth, and make haste. There may be demons nearby.

Yes sir!

The carriage, still accompanied by Flynt, begins the westward detour.

Diana looked at Siloux and pointed in front “After we crossed the valley, about a day more of riding, we should be reaching the Capital.” Suddenly, up in the front, a group of soldiers mounted on horse was approaching them very closely and halted them. Diana looked at the flag and immediately knew it was “White Fang army”. She observed the group closely and noticed there was no familiar face in the group. One of the solders shouted to them “I am Master Archer, Kendrick Helix of White Fang Force. What are both of you doing in this region?” Diana moved into the front, leaving Siloux slightly behind “We are travelers. We intend to go to the Capital.” Kendrick looked at the both of them and lifted his bow said “Both of you are not allowed to travel North. I will need to detain the both of you now, for questioning. Do not resist us.” Diana looked at Siloux and whispered to him “What should we do now?”

At the cross junction of Green Valley, Lord Kenneth was planning the remaining soldiers to find the missing two boys. He thought to himself “Where can they hide? We don’t have much time left.” A fast galloping sound was heard near him and he looked behind. A lady knight has just arrived timely to assist Lord Kenneth. Lord Kenneth smiled and said “Welcome, my sister. It’s been quite awhile since we last met.” Kristine was relieved that her brother is fine “I am glad you are fine. What had happened?” “Did Percival brief you on the situation?” Lord Kenneth asked Kristine and she said “No, I did not see him along my way.” Lord Kenneth said to her “It’s a long story. You are tired. Have a rest over there. I will brief you the current situation in a moment.” Lord Kenneth summaries the happening to Kristine and she said “This person, Aluvar must be real capable. I hope I will see him one day and extend my thanks to him.” Lord Kenneth smiled and said “I have a feeling that we will cross our path again, one day.”

M10; On the road to Dromindur

After an interesting spectacle in the Inn Keeper found a dead body thrown out one of his windows with a fainted barmaid beside it, Dragonator set off once again on the road to Dromindur.

An exciting time we had last night, don't you think Galcor?, Dragonator cheerily asked.

Whatever you say my Lord, I don't much like it when you purposefully send me to away so you can whack the intruder in the head. Next time let me stand guard.

But what would be the fun in that? Anyway, I had it all under control, although I thought he might turn up the night before, when we stopped by that stream.

I was wondering why you sent both me and Mike to fetch water from a stream over a mile away when we were camped right next to one...

The exercise did you good, stop complaining. We'll be there soon, and then you can stand guard as much as you please. Just don't interfere with the meeting, or Grim will have your head. You know how much he wanted to come.

Yes he also wanted to bring your whole bodyguard with him.

Lucky he didn't, otherwise I would never have got a chance to hit that fellow!

Galcor just sighed. Suddenly, a shout from Mike came from up top.

My lord, a small armed group of men approaches, what should we do?

Dragonator glanced out the window, and then started up from his chair.

What in all the Gods' names is he doing here!

Morning Dragonator, and what a great day for a stretch of the horses' legs, aye, wink wink.

Dragonator stared at General Marcus with mounting horror, completely unamused.

I thought I told you to stay back at the keep and watch Scorpia. Now I find you here, who knows what he's up to!

Ah don't you worry yourself, everything is fine at the keep, the King told me so himself.

Dragonator just starred at the General, raising one eyebrow. The General smiled back, completely oblivious to the trouble he has caused.

Dragonator sighed.

Well then, there is nothing we can do about it. I just hope everthing is going fine at the keep. I am surprised I haven't heard anything from Ragnir. We will continue on.

The carriage rattled on, with General Marcus and his men forming up behind.

Meanwhile...

L7 Dragons Fortress; Adym's Workroom

The Shadow looked up at this crazy, mental man with the metal arm. It was clear to him that this man did not know how to treat a captured assassin with the honour and respect they deserved. Torture was not something the Shadow was familiar with, he was used to simply killing the target as quickly and efficiently as possible. Never before in his life had he been captured. Already he could feel the shame, if he could simply end his life now, then things would be all right. But this man had taken that right away from him. Oh how cruel the world is. He was a hard man. And hard men did not break easily. Or at least, that is what the Shadow kept telling himself as the metal-armed man cracked his ribs. Perhaps he should just talk and get it over with...

Alright, enough. What do you want from me... Adym? I tell you now that I will not speak a word about my client or why he sent me, or any of his plans. I have some honour to maintain. I am the Shadow, a highly skilled assassin who has never once failed a job. At least until today... :cry_sad:

Siloux whispers to Diana: Do you think they will be hostile towards us? If so, we should make a run for it. Their armor will slow them down. Do you have a plan?

Diana smiled at Siloux. “We should make for a run. We will take a detour later. They don’t look rather friendly.” Both of them make a sudden turn and moved behind. Kendrick saw their unpredicted actions, immediately aim his crossbow on the two far ends of the tree and fired two lightning charged bows from his weapon. The two trees fell and blocked their path. The solders immediately charged behind.

Diana shouted at them “I don’t want to cause any harms towards you. Please let us go.” Kendrick shouted “Never. Don’t be silly. Both of you must be guilty of something. Otherwise, you won’t attempt to escape. Maybe, you are the ones whom summoned the Black Wraith Demons.” Diana claimed that she was not part of anything and Kendrick did not believe anything from her. Soon, a battle emerged on both ends.

Suddenly, a movement jolted from the bushes, came a small boy. “Sir, look over there. Is this one of the boy we are finding?” One of the soldiers stopped its advancement and alerted Master Archer Kendrick. “It seemed this is our main objective. The small boy looked weird. His skin was pale and there was no blood from his looks. Dispatch an envoy and alert Lord Kenneth immediately.” One of the soldiers took off with his horse as he about to past by the small boy. The small boy grabbed the horse leg and pulled the horse down to the ground. He moved in front and grabbed the poor soldier from his back, pushed his hand into the man’s heart. With that, the soldier fell dead. All of them including Diana and Siloux were shocked for words.

Diana looked at Siloux and said “I am going to help these soldiers. Please leave. It’s too dangerous for you.”

Black Knight's Territory

Western Edge of the Garsmar Gorge

Seems we've reached the end of the gorge sooner than I expected and will be able to continue north into Black Falcon territory.

Yes, I suppose my duty has been fulfilled. Still...

You wish to continue on with us?

I do, but my orders are to return to Majestic Tower once you have left Black Knight lands.

I could send one of the birds to the King with a message. I'm fairly sure I could word it in such a way as to guarantee that he would agree to allow you to continue.

Would you really be willing to do that?

Absolutely! A man of your skills will make the journey safer. I believe it is decided then.

Aluvar pulls a letter from his sleeve.

Seems like this is a little much for one of the birds to carry. I'll condense it and add on that we have encountered a situation for which your skills are perfectly suited, and that, if acceptable, we'll require your further assistance.

We have?

We will...

Aluvar takes the new note and slips it in another small metal vial, which he places around Pinky's neck.

Straight there, no stopping.

Can I try to find Bluervo before returning? He's been gone a long time now.

I... yes, that's a good idea. Matter of fact, I have a short message for King Tiberius as well.

Aluvar tells Pinky the message for the King and sends him on his way.

There we go, it's done. Northeastward, Grandoth, into Black Falcon territory. Follow the gorge until we reach Hawk's Pass. We'll be making our next stop there.

On our way! Can I ask you something?

Sure, lad.

Did she really dream that we died?

It would seem so. Her mother was similarly gifted.

Does that mean that we're safe, that she'll dream anything bad before it happens and we can avoid it?

Sadly, no. Her mother was remarkably gifted in that area, and she didn't foresee her own death. None of us did.

Oh.

The carriage continues to the northeast.

Crown Territory

Castle Town

So, this is where it happened.

Let me see if I understand, Wernst. You were following Flangdor, he turned the corner into this alley, but by the time you entered it, he was gone?

Exactly! It's impossible! It's ... sorcery!

That it could be. Then again, I'm a talking bird.

Yes, it's a little strange to me.

It's a little strange to me too, but you must admit, it would be harder if I was squawking.

That's true. How long have you been able to talk like this?

Oh, just since the beginning of the story.

Story?

Nevermind. It hasn't been long, though it isn't the first time.

You've had an interesting life, haven't you?

Oh, you have no idea.

Bluervo begins flying around the scene, looking at it from a variety of angles.

What buildings make up the walls of this alley?

Well, over there is the Fabuland Builders Guildhall and on the opposite side is the Dusty Dagger pub.

And what about the end of the alley?

Oh, that's Crown church, one of the oldest buildings in castle town.

Crown church? That's an interesting coincidence.

What?

I'm not sure, but I think I'd like to examine that wall more closely.

Bluervo and Wernst begin examining the wall.

Looks like a perfectly normal wall to me. What are we looking for?

A secret door. A passage, a tunnel, something.

I wouldn't know what to look for.

I would. Matter of fact, if you'd be so kind as to press that dark stone to your right...

Wernst pushes the dark stone, causing an internal mechanism to shift, changing the balance of a series of ropes and pulleys and causing a small section of wall to open.

What? Who would create such a thing?

Such things are common in old structures. Sometimes they were for making a hasty escape, or an unseen entrance. I suspect this has been used for both. It would be a wonderful way for someone to secretly meet someone else, don't you think?

That it would, but what does it mean?

It means the King is going to be very disappointed, very shortly.

Can you give him the news? I don't even understand what it all means, but I don't enjoy the idea of disappointing his majesty.

Of course I'll tell him. I'm just not sure how...

After a few seconds, the weights controlling the secret door revert to their original positions and cause it to close. Bluervo and Wernst exit the alley, intending to return to Crown castle, completely unaware that their discovery did not go unnoticed.

Lord Calvin, standing at the outskirts, look across the border. He went forward to a big pine tree and sat down. He was there alone thinking until someone came. It was Colin Mathis, Red Valiant Force advisor. Colin Mathis was in the same batch as the young commanders in School of Knights. He rose to the rank of an advisor, assisting Lord Calvin in strategic matters.

Sir Colin stood in front of Lord Calvin and asked “What troubled you, my Lord?” He replied “Nothing, I thought you are out on an emissary mission towards Black Falcon. When did you return?” Sir Colin answered “I was back in awhile and I saw Jonathan busy making preparations. I have heard what had happened along my way. Don’t worry about other matters. Complete your mission first.” Lord Calvin smiled “My friend, you sure know how I feel. Do you still remember what I buried below this tree?”

Sir Colin looked at the tree and said “Of course I know. You want to use it for this mission?” Lord Calvin said “This gift was given by the King, himself and I am proud to own it. Master Pent told me that my experience was not enough in the past and request me to seal it away. But I believe now is the time to use it. Over the years, my strength has strengthened my willpower to wield it.” Sir Colin said “You have indeed progressed over the years, my friend. But are you sure you are able to control it?”

Lord Calvin smiled and used his hands to dig into the ground. Deeper as it goes, he reached into the hole and took a weapon handle embed with a magical jewel. He twisted the handle and shoot out a long green spear shining at the bright sunlight. “It’s a long time since I wield the “Shadow Spear” This weapon will be my guardian for this mission.” Lord Calvin said to Colin and he replied “It seemed your decision is decided. I wish you luck, my lord and as a friend.”

There it goes. Lord Calvin took his “Shadow Spear” and rode onto his horse and makes his way to the rendezvous point.

The evil aura surrounded the small boy. He no longer possesses the warmth and love of human. Kendrick shouted to his men “Archers, get into your position! Diana aimed her crossbow with precision and shoot out an earth molded arrow charged with fire in it. The magical arrow seemed to have effect on it. But, it was not enough.

The boy opened its mouth and a dark black light is formed around him. Within seconds, the boy shot a beam of darkness from its mouth and caused a massive explosion, leaving the soldiers helpless.

Diana spoke with Kendrick and Siloux “This is getting pretty messy. We must work together to overcome this demon. Remember, only magical weapons are able to damage it. Master Archer, please get your men into a safe zone. Kendrick said “I will tell them to move back, but I will not be a coward.” Diana turned to Siloux “I need you to coordinate a diversion attack. More time is needed to charge my second attack.”

Northern side of Garsmar Bridge

Well, it took us an extra couple of days, but we're finally around the gorge.

A worthy detour, I would say.

Oh yes, no doubt.

Now we can follow this road northeast until we reach Hawk's Pass.

Is that a village?

Not exactly.

Why don't I like the sound of this?

Honestly, it's just a landmark, nothing sinister about it.

That's good to hear.

I'm sure I can reason with Marghan, he's a smart one.

Marghan?

The dragon assigned to watch the southern border of Dragon Masters territory.

Dragon... Well, we do have a letter, and we are on a mission to meet with their King.

Actually, we aren't.

What? King Tiberius sent us!

Oh yes, that isn't the part in dispute. It's who we're meeting.

I don't understand. He met with a representative of the Dragon Masters King, didn't he?

It's all very complicated. Let us hope that he has been informed of the situation before we arrive.

Right...

No worries, even if he hasn't, our letter will make it appear that we are authorized to pass, assuming...

Assuming?

Just thinking aloud, like I say, no worries.

I'm feeling better already. :look:

Majestic Tower

Pinky arrives at an open window to Pent Heartstrong's tower. Flying inside, he finds the room empty.

Well, great. I fly all the way here and no one is around to welcome me. Some hospitality! Where can he be? I'll try the throne room.

Pinky flies out the window and to another, taller tower, but finds all of the windows closed. Tap, tap, tap.

Bah, now I'm a freakin' raven.

The King, hearing the noise at his window, sends a serving maiden over to determine the cause.

It's a bird! A big pink bird!

Pink? Aluvar! Open the window!

The bird is named Aluvar? Funny name for a bird.

Open the window!

Yes, your majesty ... a pink bird named Aluvar ... sounds like a joke.

The maiden opens window and Pinky flies inside, landing on a small table.

I have a message from Aluvar!

WHAT? It's a talking pink bird! SORCERY! The maid passes out.

Hmmm... she's a flighty one.

You're a fine one to talk.

Oh, haha, are you sure you're the King and not some overstuffed court jester?

You aren't the most well mannered bird, are you?

No, I'm not. Want the message?

Yes, go on.

What? I'm supposed to read it to you? It's in the vial around my neck.

Fine, come closer.

The King removes the note and begins reading.

Hmmm... Visions, demons, magic weapons, I'm not sure I understand how Flynt can help with all of that, but I will trust his judgement.

Good enough. I've got to go now!

Pinky flies out the window and begins heading south toward Crown castle.

Abrupt one, he was.

Hmmm... seems to be some commotion down there. Oh, it's the boy.

Pinky watches as the boy kills a soldier.

But not the boy... I wonder if I can do anything to help. Ah, a familiar face, I'll go speak to them.

Pinky flies down, landing between Diana and Siloux.

Hello all, long time no see.

Do we know you?

A talking bird! I bet you're with that crazy old man I met when I first began my journey!

That I am, but I wasn't talking to you.

You were speaking to me?

Yes, but it's been a while.

You couldn't possibly know me.

I never forget a face, even when it's changed, Pr...

Diana coughs, interrupting Pinky. She gives him a meaningful look.

Hmmm... Maybe I am mistaken after all. I am just a dumb bird. :sceptic:

Yes, well, we have important matters to deal with here, that boy is possessed.

I would suggest having the archers use those blessed arrows to weaken the boy with a single shot from all of them at the same time.

An interesting idea that we will consider, but this is not the time for further discussion.

Yes, I see that you have matters in hand, I think I should continue on my journey. Good day and good luck.

Thank you, Pinky.

Pinky flies south, toward Castle town.

How did you know his name?

Erm... just a hunch.

Hmmm... :sceptic:

As Bluervo and Wernst make their way back to the castle, they're ambushed by two cloaked figures who grab Wernst. A third figure stands behind watching, while holding a cage, then speaks in a raspy voice.

You will surrender, bird, or we'll kill him.

SQUAWK!

Don't play the fool, we know you understand us.

Who are you?

We are... a cleaning crew. We we're sent to take care of loose ends. You are one.

I'm sorry, Wernst, this is too important to allow myself to be captured.

One of the cloaked figures pulls out a very nasty looking knife and puts it to Wernst's throat.

GO BIRD! Save the kingdom, leave me!

I... I can't...

Bluervo lands on top of the cage.

A wise decision. We have no intention of harming you, we just need to discuss matters. Get inside the cage.

Bluervo catches a glimpse of the bony wrist attached to the gloved hand holding the cage.

Skellies? You're skellies and you've managed to slip undetected into town? How?

Quiet, bird. Not another word from you until we have reached our destination. We will speak then.

The third figure quickly covers the cage with a blanket. The three of them, with their new found captives, turn around and head back down the alley. No one comes out of it.

Everyone shot their blessed arrows and the possessed boy was not able to fend it. Siloux shouted “My blessed arrows seemed to have an effect. All archers pin him down now.” Diana is behind them chanting some mysterious language to her weapon. Kendrick got impatient, immediately charged up his crossbow lightning and fired multiple shots and shouted “I am your superior. I am the one giving you, archers’ orders, not some young punk or lass.”

However, Kendrick’s shots seemed to have display some changes on the boy’s appearance. He stared at Kendrick, showed an evil smile and said “Young man, your shots have make me recover from your pathetic attacks. Now, you have made me recovered and I shall return this kind favor to you.” The boy opened his mouth and a dark vortex emerges. A black beam shot out and was directed towards Kendrick. He saw it coming, immediately activate his defense on his shield and pump his lightning element into it. However, the black beam was too heavy for Kendrick to take it directly. The black beam pushed him far back. Some of his archers ran up to him and found that he was severely injured.

Diana finished her spell and went forth and speaks with the boy. “Demon, get out of there. I know the boy still have some conscious left. Otherwise, that man is dead by now.” The boy laughed and said “You are a frail pathetic human girl. What can you ever do to me?” The dark vortex shot out another black beam and Diana dodged it away and looked at him “This time, I am ready for you.” She pulled out a lance type weapon. At the tip of the weapon, a well-crafted long katana shape was seen. Everyone was awe by that display. One of the archers said “This is a unique shaped weapon. I never saw it before.”

Diana charged in front and swings her weapon from the back and pushed it directly into the boy. The boy activated his evil aura and prevented her from moving. But somehow, the force of Diana’s weapon was so immense and she managed to break free. Diana swings her lance real hard and hit the boy. The boy was paralyzed and in a short moment, a black shadow was seen behind him.

The black shadow stared at her and said “I am impressed. For a young person like you, you are able to wield such high level weapon. I am no match for you. But I will not perish here, especially by the likes of you. The black shadow came out of the boy’s body and he collapsed onto the ground. Diana shouted to the departing black shadow “Why did you come here?” The black shadow turned its back and grin “You will see it soon, young girl. I will like to give you a reward. Tell Lord Kenneth that the other boy is in my captive. You will not find him in this valley anymore.

The black shadow vanished into the sky and Diana went to check the pulse of the small boy. She shouted “This boy is alive. He has a very weak pulse. Get Kendrick and the boy for medical treatment.” The surviving archers lifted both up and immediately set off to White Fang’s base camp for medical attention. Diana turned to Siloux and said “Thanks for your help. It seemed things are getting complicated at the moment. I will need to find Lord Kenneth to tell him what had happened here. What are your plans now?”

It seemed there are many unexpected things happening at our kingdom. Percival, take a rest in your chambers.

I am the Shadow, a highly skilled assassin who how has never once failed a job. At least until today... :cry_sad:

Adym glanced down at this person with curiosity. Then, sarcastically, he said; Oh good, we have a name. Shadow. Gotcha. So I'm guessing that's a war nickname, like Grim's. Wait, you don't fight wars. You just sneak up behind people and stab them in the back like a coward. They never even see it coming never have a fighting chance. Well, not usually. Adym grinned. But I saw it coming, didn't I. You can barely take a punch, I doubt you'd be able to put up a good fight. No fun at all, are you. You just use your cheap tactics, no courage, just the pathetic ability to walk quietly. And if things get tough, you just swallow that pill, take the cowards way out. Pff, talk about honour and respect... :hmpf:

Enough taunting! The 'Shadow' drew in a sharp breath at the sudden pain in his rib. You think mocking me will 'persuade' me to talk? Making fun of my methods, my ways?

Adym stood there. Well, violence won't make you tell me anything useful, and I don't think I'm about to fix you up, say sorry, have some tea and biscuits and trick you into telling me through some friendly chat. So, that just leaves, well, not much really. Just the blunt death threat.

So, you either tell me who sent you, why he sent you and how to walk so darn quietly, or I beat you until your organs turn into a gooey sort of mush, pulp, gooey, pulpy, mush... goopy... mess. Well?

Nearing Hawk's Pass

I don't like this, I don't like this at all. Couldn't we take some other road?

This is the way to the grand highway, and the way we need to take. What's wrong, lad?

It's that dragon you mentioned.

Marghan? Oh, he'll be fine. I should have mentioned that the dragons in this land aren't overly fond of the King anyway.

So why are they here?

This is their land, why shouldn't they be here? They're loyal to the land, not the men who rule it.

Oh. Does that help us?

Of course it does. We're on a mission to protect the land from an invasion of evil, they'll appreciate that effort, even if it is from humans.

Well, now I really do feel a lot better. Just in time, too, I think that's our dragon up there...

Aluvar and Grandoth watch as what seems to be a very large dragon flies down from a high cliff, landing in front of them.

Greetings Marghan! I am ...

Marghan shoots a stream of fire and smoke directly over the heads of Aluvar and Grandoth. Grandoth falls off the carriage, Aluvar doesn't move.

I am aware of who you are, and why you are here. Now, you die.

Oh, yes, go right ahead. Don't let me interrupt.

ALUVAR!

Marghan scowls at Aluvar, then takes a step toward Grandoth, who draws his sword. Alyss steps out of the carriage, between them.

Princess! Run!

Shut up, you moron.

But he's going to kill us!

He's no more going to kill us than I am.

What?

Alyss approaches Marghan and pats his belly, Marghan sniffs deeply, then stops scowling and seems to almost chuckle.

You know him, dear?

As a child, my mother and I used to pass this way sometimes.

Oh, it has been such a long time, little Princess, I didn't think I would ever see you again.

Yes, when my mother became ill, we were unable to travel anymore. I've missed seeing you, those little flights you would take me on, your grand stories.

I am sorry about your mother, she was a fine woman, a powerful warrior and a noble soul.

Warrior? I never really imagined her that way.

Don't you know?

MARGHAN! We're in a hurry to reach a very important meeting. Perhaps we should continue on.

Alyss gives Aluvar a dismissive look and turns back to Marghan.

Tell me all about this part of my mother that I didn't know. Matter of fact, if you're able, perhaps we could fly together again?

Yes dear, I would love that, and I'll tell you a story.

Alyss mounts Marghan and the two take off into the sky.

Was he really going to kill us?

Of course not, lad, it's a standard dragon joke.

It isn't very funny.

I was laughing on the inside, but I didn't want to spoil it for you.

Well, thanks!

Anytime lad, anytime.

Time passes.

I don't like this.

Neither do I.

It will be fine. It's probably best that she begin to learn the truth.

I mean the risk to her safety.

Flying around is the least of our worries right now, I assure you.

After a lengthy flight, Marghan lands and Alyss dismounts.

Thank you, dear friend, thank you very much!

You are most welcome, little Princess, I do hope you'll visit again when your journey is complete.

Count on it!

Alyss walks over to the carriage, glancing up at Grandoth and Aluvar, then over at Flynt on his horse.

Well, are you three going to sit around all day, or are we going to get on with this?

Alyss enters the carriage and the party continues north.

You should have flown away.

The truth? They're skellies. EVIL!

The second cloaked figure shoves Wernst, moving him down the dark passageway.

Shut up, you.

See?

Shush.

The party continues on for another 20 feet until they reach a larger, simply furnished room. There are several chairs and a large desk. Behind the desk is a large chair, facing the other way.

Have a seat, crownie.

What if I don't want to?

The second figure shoves Wernst into a chair and points his dagger at him.

Wernst, stop causing trouble.

Me? They've kidnapped us! They'll kill us!

Not likely. If they were going to kill us, we'd be dead already.

The bird is pretty smart, you should listen to him.

The large chair turns around, revealing a young man of no more than 20 years. Wernst gasps. Bluervo had expected it to be Flangdor, and wonders what he has do with all of this, but keeps his curiousity to himself.

You do have a flair for the dramatic, Prince Rangdar.

I'm impressed, bird.

The name is Bluervo, nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you???

Of course, there is no point being rude, now shut up, the Prince wishes to discuss an important matter with us.

You really are a smart one, Bluervo. You're right, of course, I do have a matter to discuss with you, a dire matter, though I am going to have to deal with him, you know. I can't have him mentioning this situation to anyone.

What?

Don't worry, you're a good man, I don't intend to harm you.

The third cloaked figure blows a powder into Wernst's face, rendering him unconscious.

He won't remember a thing, m'lord.

Excellent, thank you Garv.

Bluervo and the Prince have a lengthy discussion. Bluervo is tremendously surprised, but tries not to show it.

I trust I can rely on your discretion, Bluervo?

Of course, you have my full cooperation. I will make a final report to the King and then return to Aluvar with your message.

Actually, I had another idea. I'd like you to have an escort.

I don't mind the idea, but since I'm flying, these stiffs would only slow me down.

The first cloaked figure pulls out his dagger and points it at Bluervo.

He's kidding, don't take it personally, and put away that dagger.

I don't like him. Don't trust him, neither.

Neither do I. He's a smart-mouthed bird, he'll betray us.

Both of you will shut up. Prince Rangdar knows what he is doing, you will not question his decisions.

That is correct, Garv, I do. I will be sending Boney with him.

Boney? That's an excellent idea!

Boney?

He's Garv's pet bird.

From the sound of his name...

Yes, indeed, he is one of us.

Great. Well, I suppose that will be fine. :sceptic:

Good, it's all settled then. We will put Wernst in the alley, he won't remember anything since this morning, perhaps convince him that he became ill.

Yes, that will do. I'll make my final report and then Boney can join me for the trip back.

Agreed. Please make haste, this is a very serious matter. This war can be prevented.

Wernst is taken to the alley. Bluervo wakes him and they return to the castle where he tells the King that he has been unable to determine if there is a traitor, then expresses his need to reach Aluvar, which the King agrees with. The King gives him a short message and sees him off. Bluervo meets up with Boney, a solid black skellie bird, and they begin the trip north.
