Lt. Col. Thok Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 (edited) After the transfer from the original server, I'm sure several people had to redo the links in their signatures, like I had to. Seeing as the previous search engine had been slow but reliable, I was surprised when I had to search through every post involving the items I was looking up. Therefore, I would like to propose a suggestion: A better search engine, if possible! If not possible (and Im sure some members will agree with me), many good hours would be lost, sifting through everything from the new Indiana Jones movie to questions about the new Indy sets' availability just to find Lt. Col. Thok's Indiana Outpost (Shameless Plug #456) or other, exciting Indiana Jones topics. Edited April 5, 2008 by Lt. Col. Thok Quote
Plural Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 I don't think it will be possible I think it's just the type of board software that EB has. I could be mistaken however. Quote
Corvus Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 This is probably in the wrong forum. ;-) I don't think it will be possible I think it's just the type of board software that EB has. I could be mistaken however. Nope, pretty sure you're right. The search softwarer is part of the board software, and I don't think the Admins can change it. Will Quote
Siegfried Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 I'm glad you raised this point. There is an option in the site control panel labelled "Search Quality". We have it set up from "rubbish" to "finicky". Maybe we should change it to "OK", or perhaps even "relevant". I'll discuss this with the other staff and get back to you. ...getting back to reality, no this can't be done very easily. The software is written in php and maintained by IPS, Inc. Short of modifying the code ourselves (it's written in php so it is possible and legal) there isn't much that we can do. Feel free to give it a bash yourself. ;-) In the mean time, if this is a big concern you could always insert search index terms in your own posts, for example "IDX4jkhgfdgs". But I've never had a major problem with the search engine so I've never felt the need. Quote
