Governor Mister Phes Posted April 6, 2008 Governor Posted April 6, 2008 It's been brought to my attention that some users are experience problems with the pirate forum. Most likely these problems are a combination of the News Ticker (the scrolling links in the top left) and the amount of graphics in the new skin. First thing I'll do is remove the News Ticker to see if that makes any improvement. Let us know if you're having problems! Quote
Corvus Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 I haven't been posting in the forum, but I have been browsing, if only a bit. It takes a bit longer to load, sure, but no problems. I thought I'd ask...what's the Ebay thing doing below the thread? Just curious. Quote
BlueBard Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Well, not with the Pirate Forum itself but when I try to go to "classic-pirates.com" it sends me to another webpage :'-( It is a problem of mine or it's general? Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 6, 2008 Author Governor Posted April 6, 2008 It takes a bit longer to load, sure, but no problems. I may have to optimise the graphics slightly to improve faster loading times. I thought I'd ask...what's the Ebay thing doing below the thread? Just curious. It's the eBay Affiliate Program and that's about all I can tell you without violating their terms and conditions. Well, not with the Pirate Forum itself but when I try to go to "classic-pirates.com" it sends me to another webpage :'-( It is a problem of mine or it's general? I guess the Classic-Pirates.com will be down temporarily thread has gone unnoticed... Quote
Hinckley Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 If you need my assistance with the image optimization, let me know. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 6, 2008 Author Governor Posted April 6, 2008 Why thank you Hinckley! I've already optimised the top background image (which is probably the biggest offender) and the banner images. That should shave about 40KB of the bandwidth. Most of the other images are under 5KB. Governor Mister Phes Posted April 8, 2008 Author Governor Posted April 8, 2008 Nobody has posted in this thread for over 24 hours so does that mean the forum is working properly for everyone? Quote
Shadows Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Nobody has posted in this thread for over 24 hours so does that mean the forum is working properly for everyone? Smooth sailing here, Captain. *y* Quote
Siegfried Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I'm having no problems but I use Opera, not Firefox. Quote
simonwillems Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Is it just me or is this whole Ebay-thing, underneath the threads in the pirate forum, going slightly out of hand? First there were about 30 items visible, right now it's up to a few hundred, it's slowing down my computer significantly Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 9, 2008 Author Governor Posted April 9, 2008 The pictures have been removed from the eBay "thing" (except the first two) so only text should be loading. They load really fast on my computer and I don't have an overly fast Internet connection nor a super powerful computer. If anybody else has been having similar problems then please let us know. Quote
Sir Dano Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 I'm not sure if this is the right place to report this or not, but when I try to read the article A Guide To The Pirates Minifigures - Part I , the link doesn’t work, but the links for the other three do. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 12, 2008 Author Governor Posted April 12, 2008 Thanks for reporting that Sir Dano. I shall look into that ASAP. Quote
simonwillems Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Thank you, Mr Phes for taking the time to send me another personal message and taking the problem seriously! Although my computer is ancient, the internet works fine and somehow the loadingtime has decreased for the Ebay function, thank to the removing of all the pictures. It works ok for me now. I wasn't experiencing any problems before Ebay came in, when it came in things slowed down a bit, but now all is well. I do think the competition from EB members will increase when bidding on a pirate item on Ebay though..... Thanks again! Quote
