Just 10,000 of these were ever produced! 10198 Tantive IV from the 2009 Anniversary collection 75258 Podracer from the 2019 Anniversary collection 75259 Snow Speeder from the 2019 Anniversary collection 75243 Slave 1 from the 2019 Anniversary collection LEGO Star Wars merchandise I didn't want to post it in the news section, as i'm not sure if i'm allowed to. Please move if neccessary. Surprised they are using the ‘09 version and not the rumored remake version. Quote

That makes it fit the anniversary theme, would be my guess. The weirder thing IMO is explicitly using the 2007 C-3PO again. Sure, those are crazy expensive for a minifig, but you can just buy some on Bricklink if you want; they aren’t a prize the way the metal figures are. Quote

What rumored remake? I think it's a little weird that they're giving a chrome 3PO away this year. I have never seen them give old sets away. But then it makes me sad that they didn't do anything as special this year as that year's chrome 3POs, at least so far. Quote
Dukeside Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 (edited) A little underwhelming prizes imo, and weird they have a prize for an old Tantive IV when it's rumored they will release a new UCS one any day possibly. Also a little weird they have some old stock just sitting around. Edited March 29, 2019 by Dukeside Quote

Do leftover sets just sit there collecting dust if they don't sell all that's in stock? Because, if that's the case, they could have some pretty big money makers on the third-party market doing nothing for them, like Cafe Corner. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Note that that’s just the grand prize; there are also two runner-up prize packages: 10225 LEGO R2-D2™ from the 2012 collection 75060 Slave 1 from the 2015 collection (UCS) 75258 Podracer from the 2019 Anniversary collection 75259 Snow Speeder from the 2019 Anniversary collection 75243 Slave 1 from the 2019 Anniversary collection LEGO Star Wars merchandise Mostly the same stuff, just with the UCS Slave I and UCS R2-D2 instead of the Tantive IV and the chrome gold C-3PO minifigure. It’s interesting to me that they’re clearly valuing the Threepio minifigure heavily, which hinges specifically upon its rarity as opposed to its “innate LEGO value” (since after all, it's just a single three-piece minifigure. If not for the unusually limited production of that figure, the runner-up prizes would be actually be more desirable than the grand prize, from a LEGO building perspective (and may still well be, depending upon individual tastes and wants) - the UCS Slave I and the UCS R2 are each larger, more expensive sets (MSRP - though granted that’s partly inflation) than the Tantive IV. For the two of them together, against the Tantive IV and the Threepio minifigure? I’m honestly not sure which prize I’d want more, myself (this is speaking as someone for whom the droids are my favorite characters, and who missed out on the UCS Artoo despite wanting it; at the same time I also desperately want that Threepio minifigure, but I already have the Tantive IV, and I also want the UCS Slave I). I’m kind of glad I wouldn’t actually choose which prize I’d get if I won; I’d have a serious case of analysis paralysis. It’s also a little funny that the non-archival portions of both prizes include this year’s Slave I, which means both runners-up each get not one but two different sets of that particular vessel. I hope both those winners are big fans of that ship. All three winners also get, in addition to various LEGO Star Wars sets from the past and present, “LEGO Star Wars merchandise”. I presume this is an assortment of extended line and third-party items such as keychains, magnets, watches, apparel, etc., but it’s funny that there’s so little info about it. Each prize list specifies all these LEGO sets in precise detail, and then there’s, like, “this other stuff, too”. Quote

Because, if that's the case, they could have some pretty big money makers on the third-party market doing nothing for them, like Cafe Corner. We do know that they have an archive of most of their products from over the decades, and the descriptions mention that these “are collected from the LEGO vault”. It’s just a little noteworthy that they apparently have extra copies of a few things specifically to give away in contests and the like - but then, it was already known that they’ve done this sometimes, I believe. IIRC, back in 2007 they pulled and set aside three extra copies of the 10179 UCS Millennium Falcon specifically to give away as prizes for future contests, in addition to whatever stock they wanted for their own archives (and I think they’ve since given away just two of them, so unless I’m mistaken, there may still be one more 10179 left that they intend to give away to some lucky person on some future date). Back sometime in the early or mid-2000s, they also occasionally gave away or auctioned some much older sets (from the 1970s, for example). There was an official LEGO seller’s account on eBay, and they had a few auctions of vintage sets and donated the proceeds to certain children’s charities, IIRC. Quote
m4st3rt3ch Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 LEGO is giving away rare sets in a contest and people are complaining... Quote

Yes, but it is still quite weird to be giving out a 2009 Tantive IV and a chrome 3po... Then, if they are giving away the older Tantive, does that mean there isn't actually a new Tantive? I'm confused. Quote

I don’t think either of those is as weird as the fact the runner-up prizes each include two different Slave I sets. Honestly, in fact, I don’t actually see anything particularly weird about them giving away the chromed Threepio figure or the Tantive IV set, whether they’re doing a new Tantive IV set or not. Quote

Racer Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 (edited) I saw the 75243 Slave I, 75259 Snowspeeder, 75258 Anakin's Podracer, and 75261 Clone Scout Walker at my local Walmart tonight. I didn't see the 75262 Imperial Dropship though. Here's the kicker: The Snowspeeder was $32 and Anakin's Podracer was $24. I can't 100% confirm because I didn't look carefully in store, but the Clone Scout Walker is also showing up for $24 on brickseek.com. The Slave I is the normal price. So if you want the Snowspeeder, Anakin's Podracer, or Clone Scout Walker it is probably worthwhile looking them up on brickseek to see if they are in stock and 20% off at your local Walmart. I also searched a couple of other cities (Cincinnati, OH and Indianapolis, IN) in addition to my city (Louisville, KY) and they are also showing up with the discounted prices. However, most stores are showing out of stock so I'd check on brickseek before heading to Walmart. Edited March 30, 2019 by Racer Quote
Brikkyy13 Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 I’ve seen Facebook posts about the 20th anniversary sets showing up in Australia. I personally haven’t seen them but I’m keeping an eye out. Will most likely be waiting for big discounts since LEGO has finally started to price me out. Quote

Some of the local online e-tailers have them for 20% off already. I’ll wait till the bricks & mortar stores have them at 30+% off. Quote

Master Jedi Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 (edited) For anyone here in New Zealand ,the new sets can be purchased online ,and likely in the physical stores of The' chain toy store' -Toy world and Toy co (which has one store only now ),which also has 20% off all Lego on there on line site.Toy world has the drop ship listed as an exclusive,I've already purchased and had two drop ships arrive by courier two days ago. Toy co always has 20%off new releases for about a week ,very hardy for buying new release sets. Edited March 30, 2019 by Master Jedi Quote

Brikkyy13 Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 Just found Anakin’s pod at my local Kmart. None of the other sets but they said they may get some more sets in on Wednesday. I know the Snowspeeder is listed on Target’s website already but I haven’t but checked for any others. Quote
thorin Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 Does anyone know when the May 2019 calendar will be released? Usually it is around the end of the month, but I haven’t seen it yet. Seems like it’s a little late. We’ve got to be close to finding out any May the 4th promotions... Quote

This year it seems you have to wait for the first couple of days of the month before, so hopefully by around April 2nd. Yes really hoping to see if we'll get a May 4th minifigure or another build. BrickBuilder1 Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 I know this is totally off topic, but does anyone know when the UCS Falcon will eventually retire? I'm trying to save a little bit each month up to buying it, but don't want to take too long and see it retire before I get a chance to pick it up. Quote
