ToaIruini Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 Overall I’m very pleased with this lineup! I’m so happy to finally have another cmf series to collect. There are a couple figs I still need clarification on: #5, is it some sort of hacker? Or robot programmer? #8, is it a fire warden? I can’t see why they wouldn’t just make a detailed fireman, fit for cmf style (like series 9 police) #9 Guy picking up dog poop? I apologize for not understanding some of these - I’m sure more will be clear once they are out. Im just so curious. Quote
1980-Something-Space-Guy Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 This 16, 17, 18 is a true mystery... Didn't the leaked catalog from months ago show 17? Quote
Digger of Bricks Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 (edited) DAMN, it's Johnny Thunder as a CMF!!! But, is he really an Adventurer, or just simply another Explorer? Okay, there's a bit to unpack with this Series now that we've seen the full line-up, though I'm gonna have to reserve my figure-by-figure judgement until the official reveal. But, undoubtedly the biggest surprises from this sneak peek for me include... Generic Johnny Thunder (more spot-on than I'd expected from such a CMF homage) The "Black-Ops guy" whose turned out to be Blacktron Bounty Hunter ( ) A Mountain Biker with her bike (here's to hoping for a BMX Biker and/or Professional Cyclist down the road!) ...And at long last, a Firefighter! (granted, I hoped such a CMF would give us a badged firefighter helmet, so I'm slightly disappointed) Edited July 23, 2019 by Digger of Bricks Quote
1Panda Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 I knew a pizza suit guy was coming and I was right about the fox suit. Quote
DarrellBricker Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 Well, they are most certainly intriguing minifigures. I can't say that there are many I was personally clamoring for, but with all the accessories and animal molds, I see a lot that I like. And if they can put in a whole bike as an "accessory" I see absolutely no reason that they couldn't do a centaur now ... My fingers are crossed for Series 20 ... Quote

That red cheerleader is overdue someone to cheer for. Quote

TeufelHund Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 Not bad - I'll probably get the Fright Knight and the Mummy for myself. Maye the gamer boy for my eldest son. Quote
Robert8 Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 Im sad to see the reaction to this series on social media is very mixed. And Im sadder to say that I myself Im not as excited as I want to be. Something feels off here for me. Some of these characters are just like random City minifigures. I'll wait until the final pics are out to make a judgment but I think this series will be in the lower half of the CMF rank Quote

They were designed to have something for everyone, and I think this series does well for everyone, even if it’s a bit high on the City figures. But I think it’s creativity is going strong and they still manage to make many fun characters even if the non-licensed are much rarer now. I hope that Lego themselves doesn’t see the reaction critically, as it may give them ideas of wrapping up this theme entirely (a dystopian future for many of us here) Quote

Some of the city figs are a bit underwhelming since we have already had multiples of similar figures (looking at you, firefighter). At the same time there are some I'm excited about. I'd rate this series average or slightly below average in my overall Series rankings. My opinion could change with high-res pics, though! Quote
Robert8 Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 I think the problem is that City minifigures are now so detailed and specialized that these look "normal" now. 5 or 6 of these could be on any City set or people pack Quote
zoth33 Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 Really excited for the fright knight, monkey king, blacktron, and mummy. I will pick up some other for their accessories, mainly the dogs, chameleon, green duck, and the flamingo. I will probably end up with an army of the knight and monkey king for my fantasy builds. For me, it isn't the overall selection as much as it's the execution of several of the figures, namely being the "Fright Knight", homage Johnny Thunder, and the Firefighter. As I've said earlier, the "Fright Knight" should've been more Vampire rather than Whitewalker, the Firefighter very well may just be straight outta the City theme, and I'm pretty sure the Johnny Thunder homage is neither an archaeologist nor an Adventurer. Clone OPatra Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 As a rare (for myself) voice of positivity, I think these actually are more detailed than the average City minifigures and do meet the high standard of prints and design set by the CMF line. The only glaring exception is the firewoman, who could easily appear in a City set as is besides for her side leg printing. While there is the issue of there being such a high proportion of regular contemporary figures, I think what could actually be getting to people more is the absence of archetypes. A lot of these figures are very well-designed, but they don't immediately scream anything in particular. The robot programmer woman is a great-looking modern figure, but still elicits a "huh". The gamer, poo cleaner, and eclectic flamingo woman are similar. Heck, even the all-black space person is cool but not recognisable as anything. I think the fact that these aren't anything in particular at a glance could be what's subconsciously influecing the ho hum feelings. For me personally, I see a lot to like. In particular: -The gamer has cool prints including the fun new controller piece, though I wish that had a bar to clip into the front of a hand rather than sit on top. -The poo cleaner is a fun figure and the parts selection with her is very generous. -Flamingo lady is totally fun all around -I'm very glad to see a foray into more cultures' traditions with the Monkey King -shower guy is super cute with a great selection of recoloured parts. And above all, all of these have lots and lots of detail and feel like they've had love and care put into them. Quote
samurai-turtle Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 (edited) I am surprised no else just put a list out, so here I go. 1) online gamer - not sure if he comes with a poster or a big trading card for some game. Yes he does come with a game controller. 2) shower guy - not only does he have a shower cap, he has a green rubber ducky and a scrubbing brush. 3) ghostly fright knight - having a transparent sword and a "bat" shield, along with the helmet and armor, he also has a ghostly head to match. 4) "chima" monkey king - at first I thought it was some sort of chima figure. But it is more obviously the king with a fancy staff. 5) lady programmer - coming what looks like a new hair part and a laptop computer, she also comes with a robot. 6) girly mummy - come with a gold scorpion and a new hair/hat part. 7) "Jonny Thunder" - showing up with a chameleon and a magnifying glass with whatever else he has in his backpack or brimmed hat. 8) she is the fire chief - a basic firefighter with a new helmet/hair combo and a megaphone in a new color with a printing. 9) dog walker - does not come with one dog but two, plus a green shovel and some "remains". Yes one of the Dogs is a "Weiner dog", the other is a French bulldog. 10) pizza suit guy - getting the watermelon part in a new color and he comes with a pizza poster. 11) black-tron bounty Hunter - this all black armored figure only has the yellow tri-force only his chest for any marking, also he is carrying around a red wanted poster. The poster looks like part of book cover part to me. 12) flamingo lady - she come with what could be a plastic flamingo and a plant as she goes around garden around her yard. 13) rugby player- this green helmeted player also comes with a new ball ? witch I am sure will show up in other sports sets. 14) fox suit guy - probably the same one seen in the LEGO movie 2, he also has a bag and a chicken. 15) intensive Care Bear - this colorful Bear suit figure also has part of the rainbow (new print) and someone's heart, to show he is serious... 16) the bicyclist -surprise this helmeted figure comes with a bicycle (a blue mountain bike witch look new to me). Hopefully if you haven't seen the leaflet yet this will help you out. At the top of the leaflet it says 16 to collect and basically "17 to collect" & "18 to collect". What I am wondering is could this be some sort of miss print? Edited July 23, 2019 by samurai-turtle Spelling Quote
Fenghuang0296 Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 I actually quite like a lot of this series. The standouts for me are the Care Bear colourful panda (because I have a Cloud Cuckoo Land MOC in progress where they'll be right at home) Fox Suit Girl, Fright Knight and, surprising though it may be, the Firewoman. I can't wait to update the firefighters in New Babylon (my city) with printed arms and side leg printing. I like the gamer too, and I hope they reuse that console controller part. Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 This series is WAY better for me because of all those animals moulds! Quote
2maxwell Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 Interesting choice for the fright knight to use a more traditional type of helmet instead of the distinct bat-winged helmets used by the Fright Knights, especially since he's using an updated version of their shield. Quote
Itaria No Shintaku Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 My personal thoughts until more is revealed. 1) Gamer. 4/10. Just another quite plain city minifigure with a new gamepad mold. 2) Shower/bath guy 6/10. It's nice how they come with him, but we already had the parts to do him apart from the towel. Now my question: will they ever do the female counterpart of him? 3) Vampire Knight 8/10. Once you give this idea, which is quite good, this is the best way they could do it. Thanks for the reuse of old Bat from Fright Knights! 4) Monkey King 6/10. A very interesting minifigure ruined by the use of the light flesh color. 5) Robot Programmer 4/10. Just another quite plain city minifigure. 6) Female Mummy 6/10. Why again a scorpion, and again the same usual mold? They had the chance to do an ankhed staff... The rest instead is quite good. 7) Johnny Thunder 6/10. Good realization, super lame idea. Another Johnny? 8) Firefighter 3/10. Just another quite plain city minifigure. 9) Dogsitter 4/10. Just another quite plain city minifigure with a new dog. 10) Pizza suit guy 4/10. Lame reuse of the watermelon mold (A pizza slice has a different shape), bad use of colours. No. 11) Space Bounty Hunter (or whatever) 7/10. Waiting to see what's under that mask (perhaps the eyepatched face?) that seems a quite good sci fi minifigure. At least. 12) Flamingo Lady 4/10. Just another quite plain city minifigure with a flamingo. 13) Rugby Player 6/10. Good that they did it, with a new ball mold. But that doesn't appeal me in any way. 14) Fox Costumed Lady 6/10. Costume isn't that bad and the new hen mold was really necessary IMHO. But... another costumed character? 15) Care Bear 1/10. A total waste of a minifigure slot. This one competes for the lamest minifigure ever. It's something I find it hard to think it passed a series of reviews from TLG and if I were a parent, not an AFOL, and I casually spent 4€ (what a minifigure costs in EU) and they come out with THIS one, I'd never buy CMFs again. 16) Biker 5/10. Just another quite plain city minifigure with a bike and the hope they finally fit a centaur in the new minifigure bags. Overall 5/10. A series filled with quite plain city minifigures revolving around their accessories or animals. As I have already said before, and somebody like @Robert8 said the very same thing, half of this series could have been in a minifigure pack instead of a CMF line. IMHO this series competes for being one of the worst ones. Not for the realization, they had several bad ideas but they went out with quite good minifigures (a part from the care bear). And I am VERY, VERY worried by the 16 17 18 stuff. My personal 2 cents are that there will be a minifigure with different recoloring, so if you want just one you collect 16 of them, but if you want all the different colors of that, you have to collect 18 of them. Roebuck Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 In September on the inside tour I will give my highest praise to the designers on this series It has a lot of figs I want, but not any I will army build.. On the other hand I will army build the animals like crazy so this is going to be a expensive series for me Finally a a dachshund; a Lego mould dream comes true, and the fig even has two animals for the first time Quote

At least the CMF plumber will have something to do finally... Overall this looks like a pretty good series. I’ll likely get most of them. I want a better look at a fair number before I really decide on them. The animals are stand outs here. Love the Fox Girl with a chicken. Quote

I do think the general line up is way better and more interesting than all of the recent license waves, and would much rather have three like this next year than one and two licenses. However, about 80% of City figures have never interested me personally. I much prefer seeing costume, historic warrior, monster/horror and mythic figures and while this wave ticks quite a few of those boxes for me, it does lack the historic warrior that I arguably always enjoy seeing the most. I also prefer it when the CMF range is used as a way to make figures we'd never get without a matching theme. Without CMF, I'd have never got a Lego Spartan, Gladiator, Egyptian or Turkish warrior, and they're some of my all time favourites. By contrast, I COULD see each of the City figures in a standard set so even without my general apathy towards them, they don't have the same magic to me personally. However, as I said, I'd take a dozen waves like this than another Disney, Harry Potter or Batman one. Quote
Borex Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 I have the feeling that this cmf is so highly city themed, because of the introduction of new moulds they can use in future sets. Or maybe to boost the city sets? The lack of more historical figs or some aliens/monsters is a pity. I’d usually won’t go for the city cmf figs, but i will try to find the flamingo and poopdigger. So the ones that i want are: Fox suit girl, Pizza guy (much better than the watermelon suit), Monkey King, flamingo and the dogpoop fig Quote
