The Reader Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Regarding the first photos of the new 2024 CITY jungle sets I‘m a bit disappointed at the moment. The jungle structures are a bit lacklustre and the vehicles are too mighty. But I‘ll wait for more pictures for my final judgement. Quote

While the lack of any real jungle terrain does bother me, I do really like how rugged and substantial the vehicles look. Quote
Oky Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Yeah, definitely disappointing. Too much focus on the vehicles which also look too bright and clean for being in the jungle. Not to mention that Johnny and Pippin (is that photographer supposed to be her? Looks nothing like her) look out of place next to such modern vehicles. Just goes to show that Adventurers deserves its own remake theme with a proper 1920’s setting. Gotta say, the dark brown pants do look good on Johnny though. Quote
Lion King Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Completely agreed. It’s really werid to see no habitant for animals in Jungle subtheme while there are vehicles. 2021’s Wildlife Rescuesubtheme was pretty good, thanks to some habitantincluded. Quote
Lion King Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 I will leave feedback on those new Jungle sets via Lego website. It’s imporant for them to know that they need to make improvements. Quote
Yperio_Bricks Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Johnny's torso and the red panda will be at PAB later this year, right? Think i will get them there. Makes me want to try and build my first Adventurers moc! Quote

I heard weird stuff about Pippin from Orient Express set is NOT avaialbe on PaB while other minfigures are. Quote

Somehow i always have to thing about the 'African Queen' when i think about Lego Adventurers Feel like i have to try moc it (in an Adventurers context) at some point. Quote

The ones of the truck in set 60161 are far better. And I think the helicopter in set 60437 is too big and ugly. But anyway I think I will get the three smaller sets, the polybag and the adult gorillas from PaB. 15 hours ago, Oky said: Yeah, definitely disappointing. Gotta say, the dark brown pants do look good on Johnny though. Totally agree. I think the challenge for TLG was to combine 1924s Adventurers with 2024s CITY vehicles. TLG just didn't meet our expectations (at least mine). But modern Johnny is great! The small hydrofoil in set 60437 reminds me of a modern version of set 5912: Quote
Lion King Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 I understand that TLG does “Year of Space” crossing theme (City, Friends, Technic, etc). In City theme, there is a bunch of futuristic spacecraft and aliens which it’s so “un-realistic” or “un-modern”. But I like that idea they do for Space. However….I don’t get it why they could not do 1920s vehicles for the subtheme that featured Johnny Thunder in the modern era? It’s quite conflict. I just like idea of City subthemes take us to different periods of time like Spae and Adventurers. Shame on TLG for this ultramodern vehicles and lack of habitats! Oh and it’s weird that Pippin and Dr. Kirby were included in the old-times sets (Orient Express and Natural History Museum) while John is sent into future. Quote
Autumn Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 My expectations were never too high but it's still very underwhelming. After looking at the images a few times I will probably just get the red panda set for Johnny (and a cute animal) and save my money for something else that appeals to me more. Quote

Good point - If City can go into the future, then it should also be able to go into the past (for small subthemes, that is, not the entire line). Quote
Robert8 Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 It does look like someone is cosplaying as Johnny Thunder Is it really that hard to have a proper Adventurers set?? Like the El Dorado Fortress throwback set they released recently Quote
icm Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 I'm glad I got the CMF Johnny Thunder. I'll skip the City version. Quote
Doddsino Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 I guess I'll be getting that set with the red panda for my girlfriend...she's obsessed with those things. Quote

I also like the CMF version better but will still get this version. The torso feels like an authentic modernisation of the classic version and the head is, as far as I can tell, identical to the CMF except with a 5 o'clock shadow (which can be used for variety). I don't like the brown pants so much however and would still like a new slouch hat. Quote
icm Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 I guess it really just comes down to the hat with the downturned brim instead of the upturned brim, and the lack of dual-molded legs. Saying "I'll skip the City version" is really just an excuse to not spend ten bucks or thirty bucks on a little City set when my wanted list is overstuffed with much larger sets from a variety of themes. Lion King Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 I would be surprised that lego is doing a 18+ Adventurer set in a few years from now. A Johnny Thunder wiht a upturn-brimmed hat and dual-molded legs. I really like CMF version of Johnny Thunder but I will still buy $10 one with red panda. I will bricklink gorilla and olive green corocilde and its baby. I will ignore other Cty sets except for a gorilla inot polybag. Quote

They did it for one TLM set in 2014... this is more sets than that. Quote
The Reader Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 Regarding set 60424 - what about swapping that ugly balloon tires against the classic wheels (part no. 30155) which were used in the Adventurers' sets: Quote
Murdoch17 Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 @The Reader different axles, but it's a good idea. Quote
