jayber1974 Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Wow what a plane *cry_happy* though i to would be disapointed if the windows are stickers *cry_sad* Thanks whung, again you have come up with the goods *sweet* Plus, the closest TRU is 45 minutes away... 45 minitues away?!? even sleepy little old adelaide has 3 TRUs! although I would really like this set the price could be the deciding factor! random win falls of cash ON! Quote
Ronan Nissen Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 My closest TRU is a whole country away! Quote
trooperdavinfelth Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 The plane's lovely *wub* but i'm dissapointed with the figs *hmpf_bad* the only good figs a can get in may for $20. although the plane is beautiful it will probably be a pass for me. Plus, the closest TRU is 45 minutes away... Hey man, don't diss that Russian Officer; that head can stare you to death with those cheekbones! They're even tougher than Tarkin's! *wink* Quote

xwingyoda Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 7628 by tru in july 2008 and price 69,99 euro./64,99 dollar Tks again for the news !! So the set is 70€ !! nice I really can't wait to get that set, the more I look at the pic the more I love it !! It seems that there is an aeroflot sign on the fuselage !! Aeroflot was CCCP's airline company for those who didn't know *wink* *yoda* Quote
MacK Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Looks like a good set, I like all of the little vehicles it comes with, I hope there’s some sort of interior for the plane unlike the police plane, and green cargo plane. From what I can tell the jeep uses the same kind of mudguards, as the “BrickMaster” jeep, also interesting to see that it comes with a crystal skull, and new handcuffs (perhaps Indy will be captured in the new movie, and forced to work for the Russians *oh3*). I hope I can conjure up the money to buy it, as the plane is just to great looking to pass up. Quote
BlueBard Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Nice plane, indeed! *blush* It's good to see a more stylised plane made by LEGO in this 30's lovely style *wub* Quote

Quote
Shadows Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Just about as close as it gets to perfect. Sure, it'd be nice to get some better figures, I'd settle for just about anything over more of the same, but the plane and little vehicles make up for it, and maybe I'll be able to skip one of the smaller sets if they overlap that much. I probably won't, but still, it's a reasonably nice deal. I hope TRU stocks them well and we don't see another Hoth disaster with people screaming and ordering phantom copies that disappear from their orders on LEGO.com... Quote
Lord Of Pies Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 What an awesome set, I like it. The plane isn't very <insert that tiresome argument> at all and finally we don't have that stupid sleek nose cone like on the city sets! And more commies, yay. Quote
xwingyoda Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 And more commies, yay. You know what I find hysterical, its that we all want more nazis and commies, 2 ideologies that made roughly more than 90 million deaths over the planet *tongue* But that is in NO way endorsements of those ideologies *wink* And TLC didn't want to have the swastika on its sets but they see now problem putting the commie CCCP on their vehicle... I have difficulties understanding that *wink* ok... i thought this was a Dakota airplane, or the dc-3 as some one else said... didn't know the russians had these too... must have been sold then during WW2... it's not a bad plane but it need some serious work... especially the wings don't look all that great... I mean you pointed out the fact to make it not funny in the slightest, don't take me the wrong way I'm just saying people could take it the wrong way y'no? and now I'm expecting to come back here banned or something lol ;-) Edited April 10, 2008 by part 2 Quote

tedbeard Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 And TLC didn't want to have the swastika on its sets but they see now problem putting the commie CCCP on their vehicle... I have difficulties understanding that... You are comparing apples and oranges. CCCP was the initials (in Russian) of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics no more or less offensive than the initials USA and used in the same way. The initials did not represent an ideology of hatred. You might have a case against the hammer and sickle emblem I suppose but that does not appear in any pictures of the sets I have seen. In any case, neither the hammer and sickle nor the initials CCCP have ever risen to the level of hatred, despair and loathing that the swastika evokes in the civilized world. The swastika is actually illegal in Germany and enough to bring charges under hate crimes legislation in some western nations. Quote
shunlabs Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Very appealing set, I must say ! *thumbup* I would be a pity it doesn't reach all stores (not only TrU / S@H) with such a potential. Yup, prolly windows are made of stickers, beh *cry_sad* It seems loosely based on the famous and beautiful DC3, although proportions are a bit strange here and there (props go before the nose, cockpit diameter vs wing area, overal seems also a bit short), but, hey, I'll consider it a Chibi DC3, how cute is that ! *wub* 7628 by tru in july 2008 and price 69,99 euro./64,99 dollar Again, splendid use of the exchange rates by TLC !! FYI, we are currently in the range 1 EUR = 1.58 USD. (Check http://www.xe.com/). Which either means, if one would be fair, that a 70 EUR item should be 110 USD, or the other way around, that a 65 USD item should be 41.15 EUR... You decide in which direction the conversion should apply, lol ! *tongue* Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 (edited) Thank you very much for these pics, whung! Even though I'm no IJ fan this set looks great! *thumbup* Especially the plane looks so *wub* because it is mainly brick-built and not as large as the "normal" City planes. I can't understand why TLG doesn't release so amazing vehicles like in the IJ theme for the City theme, too! *sceptic* I like the cars and the new colors, mainly the dark-green very much, too. *thumbup* Edited April 11, 2008 by Klaus-Dieter Quote

CCCP was the initials (in Russian) of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics no more or less offensive than the initials USA and used in the same way. The initials did not represent an ideology of hatred. The swastika is actually illegal in Germany and enough to bring charges under hate crimes legislation in some western nations. I know I am but its for the sake of discussion *wink* The swastika was the symbol of nazism (which is a bloody shame since its a really beautifull symbol in term of design and history) - the poor Weimar Repblic flag was replaced with the NSDAP (National Socialist German Workers Party) flag in 1933 which carried the Swastika. So you can say that Germany's darkest hours to say the least was in between 1933 and 1945. On the other hand the CCCP flag came into existence in 1923 (long after the revolution though...). Like you all know, its a red flag with the hammer and sickle symbolizong the nation's workers and the red star represented the rule of the Communist Party. That flag stayed into existence until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. So its hatred ideology was embodied on the CCCP flag for all these years !! So in both cases Lego did not use the flag symbols that represent ideology which is quite good ince Lego is a kids toy and that could be interpreted the wrong way *wink* (I still would have prefered them on for historical purposes) *yoda* loving these discussions !! Batbrick Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Not wanting to get real indepth here, but ironically the swastika was a symbol of peace in many countries, but now is sadly seen as he flag of disgusting nazism. Like good old Yoda stated, it is very sad considering it's rich history and design. Batbrick Away! *devil* Quote

Still, it's a weird decision. Maybe they should just have deleted the stickers all together and kept an aleminium look, like they did with the Santa Fé wagons... it sure will be cool to mod this plane though! Quote
Asuka Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 That plane´s plain cool indeed.... a lovely set! *wub* Quote
Athos Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Looks like Belloq somehow survive the little Ark incident and has joined forces with the Commies... That's a really poor show Lego. *hmpf* Apparently the natives got into a bad batch of sunless tanning lotion. The long black hair should be useful though. Steve Quote
