I've expirience this a couple times: when I log in and I see the Online Members here, I see "Google.com" on the list. I searched and there was no member called Google.com, so is this an unregistered member online or is it something else? Or am I going insane?

furthermore...on the old server we scripted our robots.txt file to disallow Google from crawling our site, now we've changed that, so it has a lot of catching up to do, so you will notice her around more often.

her? *wacko*

And yes, this has been brought up several times...

How and why are Google a member of EB? I am still yet to see/notice any ads from them, altough to be honest I'd rather do without them. Please explain.

On candystripe legs the spiderman comes

Softly through the shadow of the evening sun

Stealing past the windows of the blissfully dead

Looking for the victim shivering in bed

Searching out fear in the gathering gloom and

Suddenly!

A movement in the corner of the room!

And there is nothing I can do

When I realise with fright

That the spiderman is having me for dinner tonight! ;-)

Another one of these threads? Not to be pessimistic, but I can't see this thread staying open much longer. It's already been explained in the thread for the new template and such that it's just a crawler. It crawls around EB looking for a place to plant its ads; fortunately, EB is protected and its crawlings are in vain. *sweet*

And the threads will keep appearing until we recognize the seriousness of the coming uprising of the machines. Start filling your basements with food, water, and armor-piercing incendiary rounds. When the Hunter/Killers come for you in your sleep, you must be ready! 8-|

Eh, what? X-D It's just Google's "spider" bot that looks for information to archive in the search engine..

Honestly mate, don't stress. It's a bot. There are a lot of bots. Ask Jeeves, Lycos.com, Google.com, Hot Bot, Lycos.com, What You Seek... The fact that you can't select it shows that it is a known bot. Do we have to turn off this feature to stop people making topics over it? (Yes we can do this.)

But what are the advantages of these bots? Do you get money from them?

Sort of. They index the site and that can bring more visitors. Archive.com in particular stores snapshots of most websites for archive purposes, which you can view on the Wayback Machine. This page in particular is interesting, especially if you click on "Staff"

Woah, it's so... OLD!

Who are those other admins? Have they just stopped posting as much now, or have they gone away entirely?

That's pretty cool how they took shots of that. This site really has advanced a lot since then!
