obijon Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 (edited) Hi again everyone This time I present a model I have tinkered with a lot - Admiral Raddus' flagship from Rogue One the Profundity. This is another example IMO of a nice ship design from the Disney era being used only once then blown to bits! The build itself has a few transitions from 2 bricks wide at the front to 3 bricks and then back to 2 on the tail to attache the nose section and to get the sleak shape which tapers to the tail. I also tinkered an awful lot with the nose section to get the hangar in. I must have built this section 4 or 5 times but finally settled with using the door rail pieces to mimic the hole as this meant that the nose would not get too thick throwing out the whole shape and feel of the model like some of the other attempts I made. I also attached the engines using clip tiles so the tail would not get too thick. Now to finish building the ship named after the commander of this one.......... Anyway let me know what you think. Cyborgsaurus Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 This is really good! I’ve seen a few others in mini scale, but they were still so much bigger than this. Do you have any general guidelines on size for your models? So that they fit in with the official planet sets and stuff. Again, great job, and I can’t wait to see what’s next! Quote
Brick-Wombat Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Very well done! I'm quite interested to see this tackled on a midi-scale. I've tinkered a bit in LDD, but capturing the curvature of Mon Calamari ships is a very unique challenge. Quote
obijon Posted December 18, 2018 Author Posted December 18, 2018 (edited) Many thanks for the positive feedback guys. 22 hours ago, Cyborgsaurus said: Do you have any general guidelines on size for your models? The models size tends to be driven by certain crucial pieces needed to get the important parts of the build right. For the Profundity for example it was the 1x3 double inverted 45 slope for the main part of the hull and then the models dimensions are built around that. It is obviously harder to keep capital ships to the smaller size - the Raddus I am working on uses the piece below as the nose which then due to it being 4 studs wide leads to a model of over 20 studs long. I used that part on my microfighter Raddus as well. Kinda seemed important that the front had that look. Quote
obijon Posted December 18, 2018 Author Posted December 18, 2018 yeah, needs to be pointed. Does not look right with a wedge which is 2 studs wide at the front. Quote
xadrian Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 You could get away with the 29119 and 21120. That's still 2x2. 2 hours ago, obijon said: the Raddus I am working on uses the piece below as the nose which then due to it being 4 studs wide leads to a model of over 20 studs long. The whole model would then become incredibly small without being able to add any other details and shape unless you add slopes around those pieces but then the whole model would not flow front to back. A bi-product of the 4 stud width means I could also build the engine cluster at the back. I am hoping to finish the Raddus before Christmas so watch this space. Size is not too much of an issue as the Raddus should be bigger than the Profundity anyway - 3 times bigger! Anyway, plenty of time to discuss the Raddus later in the month - this topic is about the Profundity afer all. Edited December 18, 2018 by obijon Quote
