I love them.  I prefer animal-type costumes, and I prefer them to not feel like costumes.  Basically, an excuse to introduce new fantasy characters.  But I do love the others as well.  The Cactus and Banana were great, the Crayon looks like it will be fantastic...

Im fine with them but they are now everywhere. Even City had a tree costume.

By the way, I meant to ask you this question earlier, but forgot to at time you shared your thoughts. Would these "costumed" archetypes have eventually found their way into your own CMF proposals if Lego had never done so for the official line, at least at the same rate of reoccurrence? :shrug_confused:

I love them, and I think more often than not they’re my wife’s favorites from a given series. She doesn’t collect entire series as I do, but usually wants / gets the costumes (though she doesn’t do whole series, and this didn’t get all of S18).

Besides trick-or-treaters, another equivalent subset of CMF archetypes I'd much rather see take the place of "costumed" archetypes are that of toys, such as the Clockwork Robot CMFs and the Character Encyclopedia exclusive Toy Soldier. Again, here's a few more designs from @Robert8 I'd instead wish to see in place of further future additions to the endless costume party:

Hmm interesting question. I think so. Especially the trick or treaters...

But it's hard to tell because the costumed characters have been in the CMF line since the very beginning.

With the toys I understand why LEGO dont make them more frequently. That would be kind of promoting other toys that are not LEGO

No doubt one would've eventually thought of trick-or-treaters as possible future CMFs, whereas an endless parade of furries and walking edibles couldn't have been foreseen by anyone during the line's early years.

If Lego were to introduce Barbie and/or GIJoe CMSs, yeah, I could see that reasoning applying; but for classic, archetypical toys? :def_shrug:

S16 is the first CMF that had nothing I wanted. The previous CMF sets were fine tho ... even for someone like me ... I only buy those I can use in CITY themed mocs. Please go back making CMF with a bit of everything ... something for everyone.

In your eyes, which was the best CMS we've seen so far as far as variety is concerned? What do you feel should be the maximum number of slots allotted to each themed subset within a single Collectable Minifigure Series? :classic:

To be honest: It depends on the figure. Dragon Suit Guy ad Elephant Girl rocked absolutely. Some of the other Series 18 costumes like the blue reused unicorn, Rocket suit and some others just weren´t interesting to me. I adore the Giraffe in the new Lego Movi 2 Series. The Melon is terrible. They could do a whole Series with GOOD costumes and i would love it. One great Thing about full body suits is: it brings unprinted Torsi, which i Need for printing my own custom designs.

Alright, you know what would be another subset of archetypes I'd much rather see in place of "costumed" minifigures?

ANTHROPOMORPHIC ANIMALS

...real ones that is, and I don't mean those warmongers from Legends of Chima.

Or Chima without the Xena: Warrior Princess armor?

Of course, like I had said...

...just City-dwelling archetypes as anthropomorphized animals. :classic: Besides, @Robert8 had something close to that:

How about warmongers from Fabuland?

I think they are ok. I didn't like them when I was a young lad.

They look like what happens when one mixes drug use with the ability to create injection molding dies.

That is what Chima was, Fabulanders weaponizing Vibranium.

I voted "Don't really Care for Them".

I don't mind the things, some of them are really fun; but there is too much of that in recent CMF lines so I really think they need to be cut back.

This description could also apply to the origins of Nexo Knights!

The costumed figures are fine. They are unique and amusing when included as one or two figures in a series but a whole series was a bit of a waste, seeing as 'regular' are now so infrequent. The regular series should be a place for Lego to provide figures that would not really appear in a standard set and a costumed figure is ideal for that. However, I would prefer regular series like the originals where new accessories and moulds were provided and where there is something for everyone. Having said that, I would personally rather have a whole series of costumed characters than licensed characters and if we had to have a themed series, a non-licensed music theme with figures holding musical instruments covering all sorts of musical genres from orchestral and marching brass band members to rock, country and pop.

It depends completely on the figure. I adore the giraffe minifigure from the TLM2-Series. The Dragonsuit and Elephant suit are two of my favourite minifigures ever. Some of them are really usefull like the Rocket Kids suit for Fallout-Mocs or the mouse, which Comes with the Elephant girl. As a customiser printing own designs on unprinted Torsos i love getting some new unprinted colors under bodywear parts. or new dual moulded Arms and Legs. My problem is the choices which costumes are made. Some of them are so unbelievable useless. The Melon costume in the new series is also the first one, which is just ugly in my opinion. A pink Melon Looks just wrong. There are much better custom pieces out there for exactly that costume. It uses absolutely useless colors for the legs. I could imagine more than one great series of just costumed minifigures. I can also see Lego doing the worst series ever, if all the figures are like the Melon costume.

While the Melon largely leaves me cold as well, those legs look like something right out of a 1980s BMX or Motocross competition. Granted, that's gonna be pretty niche, even in a City setting. He's also got that sunglasses paired with the S*%t-eating grin face print, which is handy.

I (used to) love them and collect them while I don't really care for other, non-licensed CMF, but since the series with Banana Guy/Penguin Girl I don't really care for them anymore. I do still collect them, but more because I already have all the others. I think they just made too many, with repeats (the Banana Guy and Penguin Girl boxes with small extra details) and while I loved the S18 at first, I don't really like it now.

The Giraffe guy from TLM2 series is really cool, but the others are kinda meh. Now that I think of it I really like the animal based suit guys and we get more Fruit guys these days.
