I continue to be blown away by the quality of Jerac’s Tie fighter designs. This one was a dream to build and photograph and looks absolutely stunning. I love his technique for creating the ball at the centre of a Tie fighter. Though it may not be the strongest way to do this, its certainly the most striking and visually accurate. Its easy to forget you’re looking at something made out of Lego when you view these ships.

You know what annoys me the most?

This one I did not see with my own eyes. It was entirely digitally-built and then finished on-site at BrickVault... vault I guess.
I guess I need to finally order pieces for this to have one for myself.

No way! You really should. The way light reflects off the black and red on this one is beautiful. You killed it with this design. I think I like it more than the TA. Sooo... you probably know by now that I can’t just build one of your ties without building a moc around it, so, give me a month or two and this one will be at the centre of something pretty ambitious, if I can afford it! Watch this space.

This one is absolutely beautiful ! But I have one question : why don't you use the red windscreen piece from the official FO TIE Fighter ? It would give it a more distinctive look imo.

I can’t answer that as I didn’t design it. I just bought the instructions which came with an xml file and I ordered the pieces from that.  I see no reason why you couldn’t swap the windscreen out for the red one, unless it’s not the right scale of course. Might well do that the next time I have a BrickLink order to do.

I know that the grey windscreen piece is Jerac's design choice, I just wonder why no one ever tried the trans red windscreen ;) I would love to see how it looks :)

Law of averages. His designs haven’t been about all that long and imperial era are the most popular. I doubt many people in total have made these FO ones. Eventually once enough people have cottoned on to these models and more and more are being made I’m sure someone will try a red windscreen piece.

I picked the grey cockpit piece because this is what should be used according to the movie:

It is the interior which glows red, which makes the canopy look like it was trans red - while it is not.
