Size for custom decals

I'm gonna make some custom decals to create custom MOCS like a fictional Railroad company which I dub the Scythe & Genesis Railroad or just S&G for short and wonder what should be the pixels for something like that if I build a CSX Locomotive custom with my own colors from it, I never mad decals before that would bring it to my lego creations.

 

I do have inkscape but I'm sure there's a better free app that can do as much as Adobe Illustrator and go from there and boom custom decals of my own fictional railroad company.

Alas there is no good alternative to Illustrator but Inkscape! It just depends on what you want to do. Several people including me in train tech sell different kinds of stickers for trains, so we can give you good advice I think :)

It starts with the sizes on a train of course and then you work form there.
