On a less clownish note, wouldn't it be nice if, instead of churning out morbidly faecal B models, they recycled that brilliant idea from, I believe, the Eighties, when they released booklets combining different models? I'm pretty sure the peeps at TLG could conjure up some pretty swell stuff mixing the parts from, e.g., 42097, 42098 & 42099. From TLG's point of view, it'd be more work but it would likely also drive up the sales of the models from each wave, kinda like they did a few years back with the 40th anniversary replica of 8860.

That would be really cool.

However, let’s end the B-model discussion here. We can start a new topic if necessary.

Upon closer inspection, I suspect that making a backhoe boom is not quite possible with the parts in the set. The backhoe config has a longer second section of the boom, and therefore would require more parts than what are needed for the face shovel config.

I would not completely rule it out.  Over the years we have learned that Technic sets, especially the large, over 2,000 piece sets have a lot of redundancy and inefficiency to their construction. I suspect this model will have much the same, especially in the chassis.  I  would not be surprised if someone is able to built it more efficiently, with a better use of parts.  Perhaps even with more leftover original parts.  Parts that could potentially be used for a second section.

BTW.... am I really that daft?  I am not seeing the second part of the boom which you speak of....

I'd pass out from shock!!  After all the talk about 42082 having too many pieces and all the mocs that were going to be built using a 1000 pieces less... how many did we see? It was none wasn't it!! I really hope the same rash promises are wheeled out again this time!! :roflmao:

Wasn’t the issue that all the people who tried did the idiotic thing and used Unimog tyres? Because if so then I’m still not convinced 42082 couldn’t have been smaller.

Definitely. Five motorised functions and one manual function - doesn't take much space to cram that in.

Obviously 42082 needed to be that size to be a flagship, so no turd-tossing at TLG here.

Anyway, the idea of scaling it down sounds like a fun challenge.

Saw it too, but it's offline again.

It's online again….and it's available for online purchase. Wondering if this is a publishing mistake, anybody placed an order yet?

It's also available at the Dutch Conrad site for € 15 more (@ € 465,= incl. VAT) than the German site version. Delivery dates between 30-8 and 31-8.

added Dutch Conrad info. / corrected price

I think Ngoc Nguyen refers to the longer section connected with the main body. But in the backhoe config, both arm sections are way thinner. It can be seen, as the upper hydraulic cylinder mountings on this 'long' arm section are attached outside of the arm in contrast to the face-showel, where the mountings are directly below the arm.

In the 42100 face-showel, i counted a width of 11 to 15 studs of the arm, for the backhoe you should only need like 7...9 studs, just look at the first pic in the Liebherr manual:

The arms are very different...

Its great to revisit the brochure, you kind of forget how massive it is. I hope in the flesh the lego version has some of the same presence...

Keep in mind that those prices are excluding taxes. Including taxes it's more than the Lego price.

Delivery dates are odd though...

Not sure why you don't see prices without VAT. Conrad.de sells the set for 450€ (including VAT), which I'm not gone pay. I'll wait for decent discounts. Delivery dates for the German Conrad are 28.8 till 30.8.

@Snorrowitz The prices I mentioned in my post are including VAT, ex shipping. Shipping is free so now extra charge.

I do see my typo now; the Dutch Conrad site sells the set for € 465,00 (incl. VAT) instead of € 365,00 as posted.

Bad experience?

I've ordered a number of Lego sets over the years with Conrad, never had any problems and always delivered in the promised period...

I do want the set, but as others also have said, I'll wait until a decent discount is available somewhere.

Obviously Conrad are no scammers, so let's be careful with that statement. I have posted a question about this offer on the Ambassador Network.

If you pay with credit card and there's a non-delivery, the credit card company is obligated to refund your purchase and make every effort to charge it from the seller.
