How popular was the doctor who TARDIS set?

As much as I hate to admit it, the merchandise has dropped significantly since the 10th Doctor's era. Heck even for the 50th Anniversary Episode we only got something like 2 or 3 figure packs.

I've tried snippets of all the 're-booted' doctors and it's just not the same show as before. They're all good actors (well maybe not Matt Smith) but it's lacking in subtlety and atmosphere. (Ok, I liked Human Nature/Family of Blood.)

It's hard to see how it could ever recover. The current version is dreadful. Jodie Whittaker is fine but the writing is terrible. It's like CBBC but with monsters that are too scary for children.

At least the minifigs must have had some acceptable sales figures since they issued another series, but all in all, the sales was not sufficient to make more than those first 5 sets.

I am trying to make the point, that brick-built Dr. Who dont really have a lot of potential. The show has aired here in Denmark as well, but on obscure channels, and with few viewers.

It really is a part of UK culture, that never fully made it out of the British Isles.

 

This is very incorrect. They didn’t make 5 sets and 2 blind bag waves. They made 14 sets across 3 years, and 6 blind bag series. They also had army builder minifigure packs and 2 ‘11 Doctor’ minifigure pack sets, and a wave of minifigure focused battle pod things, similar to things like the Ninjago spinner sets,

there was also a variant of the 5” action figure TARDIS player festuring a floor with studs on to be able to put character building figures on...for some reason

Well, Character Building's Doctor Who toyline was more successful than the LEGO Ideas Doctor Who set. I'm kind of disappointed that LEGO Doctor Who wasn't very successful, but I do hope LEGO will make new products based on Doctor Who one day.

No, across a few years. Sales must have been good enough to continue. But there was huge breaks between releases, and everything was always on sale. The final “wave” was cut from 5 sets to just 2

Yeah, I remember the 11 Doctors set, I think it was £20, which at the time seemed really expensive. This was back when CMFs were new and also seemed expensive at £2 each. But many stores ended up selling the 11 Doctors set at £9.99, so presumably most customers thought £20 was too much as well.

Not really sure of the number of sets sold, but I think I went well for the lego group! Saw it sold in many retail stores.

The one that springs to mind is TRU here in the UK at least, because it was a pain to track down.

I don't think it did. It was on quite heavy clearance sales at most retailers that stocked it. RRP was £50, I think I paid ~£30. Many were parted out on BL and figures are still not worth that much.
