Siegfried Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 I was never happy with 7706. It looked great but the darn tracks didn't roll well as it was too light. If you then pushed on it, the joints went "click" making the tank go flat... Thus I broke mine fast and made a MOC based on it. I threw in some parts from some Knights Kingdom figures, but other than that it was almost all 7706. (I say "almost" as I can't remember now... ) As it turned out, I wasn't happy with the MOC either! For this reason, beyond the initial few hours I spend on it, the mech was never finished. In short, the top was too heavy so the legs would compress at the slightest touch. At that time I was just re-building my collection so didn't have any more click joints to make it stiffer. It's been too long now to finish it and it will mysteriously fall in my sorting bucket soon. The cockpit I quite liked, and that's why it hasn't been sorted earlier. I think the launcher on the back gives it a beefy look, which I like in a mech. The arms however are way too spindly. I like the concept of a tracked leg mech, and I plan to give it another try soon. The back is fully enclosed, and the white thing there was supposed to be a jump jet to allow short periods of flight. In full assault mode. Ahhhghhhhh! Feel free to pass judgement on it. Remember though that it is about to be broken. Quote
Corvus Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 So...You believe in jump-jets but not in anti-gravity? Hmm, the legs need something, it has that feet out, knees together look, which doesn't work too well for a mech that you describe as "beefy". The shouldrs need to be buffed up, but you're right- the cockpit and body are just fine. If you wanted to, you might be able to save it. But since you're looking forward to scrapping it... :skull: Quote
Front Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 This looks like a great build. The tank was the first Exo of mine to get taken apart. The structure is just to weak to hold the belts in a fixed position, so when trying to drive the set, there is way to much flexing. A couple of weeks ago I gathered the parts from the set, wanting to do some moc. I ended up bulding the official alternate. It looks good, but is really not sturdy, as the outer belts tend to fall off (actually the wheels holding the outer belt). But it's fun to see this moc of yours, as I before building the alternate, actually thought of a possible mech with belts as legs/feets. Front Quote
Asuka Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Well, that mecha looks just very cool, solid and pretty functional too.... very nice, it seems like such track-legged mechas´re a very interesting concept indeed. Quote
zero1312 Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 (edited) A shame you don't like it, as this is one beautiful mech. Front The tank would have been much better if TLC would have used these segmented threads instead of the one piece rubber junk, don't you think? Edited April 20, 2008 by zero1312 Quote
Brainbox Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 It's got potential, definately. Tracked legs are good in principle, and I like the back here. The cockpit and orange colour scheme are also nice. But the limbs do look a little spindly, like you say. Still, the idea's there. Quote
LuxorV Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 Very nice, Sinner. The new arms you used are surely better than the orignal ones, too weak to support the weapons, expecially in the original alternate . I too always wanted to build an alternate for the 7706. Those tracks remind me of the Lost in Space (1999) R-9 ! I really need to make a better version than this . LuxorV Quote

Very much indeed. But I think it's a price thing, as all those segments must be more expensive than a single piece of rubber. If you have some of those belt things you should try and use them in a future moc. I've got some ideas developing in my head, but I'm not really ready to put something together yet. Beat me to it Front Quote
