It was a remaster of the original game.

Oh I see. So that was just an update. That could explain why the cover art looks pretty much the same. He's just in his new suit and a newer police car is in the background.

Yup, they added a few new characters and vehicles, improved the graphics and that's pretty much all. Oh and now you can play it at pretty much every console (and PC!).

Yeah! That was kind of a bad move. Only releasing it fof Wii initially.

Speaking of realism in CITY, the squad cars aren't especially realistic-what city has police cars that look like race cars? And another thing that bugs me is how half of every police station is always the jail. It needs to be seperate, that was a great think about prison island. If they have to have a jail, just make it a holding cell. Recent stations don't have any realism, there's no booking, no lab, nothing. What CITY needs is a set based off the station in Hill Street Blues.

Some countries had Porsche and even Lamborghini as Police Cars for highway chases.

The Huracán Polizia is outfitted with all the accoutrements you might expect a highway patrol officer might need: an on-board tablet and computer, recording equipment and a video camera to document police operations on the road, a gun holster, portable extinguisher, standard VHF police radio, and hooks for retaining the hand-held stop sign used to stop vehicles safely.

Of course sports car will never be the majority , but they are indeed used.

To me the 2019 Police Car looks a lot like US muscle car as well , here's a german version :

Ford-Mustang-Tune-it-Safe-Tuning-Wolf-Ra    60239-1.jpg?201812041022

Even if this german Police version of the mustang is pretty much a one-off, they are used more in the US, I just used this example for it's color scheme.

Back in the 1980s my state gave its highway patrol Ford Mustangs.  Today most of the police cars are Dodge Chargers - not quite two-door Speed Champions-style cars, but leaning that way.

Don't forget about the Metro PD. That jail was separate. I hope the 2020 Police Station is similar.

My opinion is, a police station every year ain't needed. Take the mountain police vehicles out to the mountains to catch the crooks and bring them back to the jail in the city. That's how I'd do it. You'll need a mountain police prisoner transport of course. Should be an easy build there.

If kids want 2million police officers in their town, LEGO will make 2 million police officers.

And I'm okay with the police sub-subthemes, but maybe on a 2-3yr basis. And if 2021 brings space police, I'm going to decide the company has lost its' marbles. I love SP, just not in city. But idk what they could do for another police theme, unless they start over again with forest police. I suppose they could do water police, since LEGO CG does rescue, not law enforcement.

I'm actually trying to acquire the truck. Only the truck though. But the only place I can find that is on ebay. If only I could find one on eBay.

Hmmm...SWAT looks like that @pooda. Regular squad cars are Dodge Chargers or Ford Police Interceptors.

Speaking of 2020 police sets , wonder what vehicles they'll make , probably only a few weeks away from pictures.
Final speculation : (NOT DESCRIPTIONS OF ACTUAL SETS)

  • LEGO City 60241 Police Dog Unit  : German Shepherd are the usual dog used.
  • LEGO City 60242 Highway Arrest  : Likely 2 Sports cars, 1 Police , 1 Criminal car often Darkred, possible orange accents like other villain vehicles in 2019
  • LEGO City 60243 Police Helicopter Chase : Could be various things, probably similar to Highway Arrest but maybe Helicopter vs villain vehicle with some stolen cargo.
  • LEGO City 60244 Police Helicopter Transport : Probably a Semi truck with low loader trailer, maybe even larger US-style cabin with some command center in it?
  • As for helicopters, likely 2 different styles of builds, 1 standard smaller helicopter, and 1 more cargo type as they seem to be made every few years or so.
  • LEGO City 60245 Monster Truck Robbery  : Monster truck , criminals, probably no large police vehicle, maybe a motorcycle or quad.
  • LEGO City 60246 Police Station : Hopefully a decent building like 2019 Fire Station, maybe a seperate jail and dockside, and armored car as Police vehicle. (no helicopter as already likely 2 in the wave)

I actually like that design for this year's "armored" truck , wish it were sold seperately tho.

Tbh, I don't mind the extra police vehicles. It's the annual police headquarters that irk me. This years police headquarters felt kind bland. But that's just my point of view. My professional point of view.

I loved Elite Police. In my opinion, I would've called that the SWAT subtheme. But unless you want the actual SWAT team to raid your company, I wouldn't do it unless permission is granted.

EDIT: But the best thing about it is that this proved that there didn't need to be a headquarters for it to be enjoyable and it sold like hotcakes.

Then there was Prison Island. can we even call that a police theme. I mean, yeah the vehicles were labelled as police vehicles. But if was more focused on the prison system than a local police force. Just sayin. In my opinion, they were missing a police bus for that one.

I hope the scene is a street race with colorful sports cars. Police set and civilian cars at the same time. Both CFOLs and OFOLs are happy.

I personally hope he's using the monster truck to rob a grocery store.

I'm thinking a police drone. Similar to the fire station. I hope it's an armoured car too. I also hope it's a separate jail cell. Metro PD nostalgia anyone?

Elite Police I was good with because it was a nice supplement as a SWAT team (AND Chase was included). Prison Island was nice, and yeah we definately needed a bus.

Prison Island was more of an opportunity to focus on more water vehicles, which they did, 3 police boats, and 1 criminal tiny boat with a dockside.

I wouldn't mind if the 2020 Police Station was dockside (like the 2019 Fire) , and had a police boat as it's largest vehicle, and make the prison seperate module like this set  (minus helicopter)

2019 Fire station + Dockside fire set connects with technic pins in a few different ways, which adds to the variation of the set imo.

I was hoping I'd see one for the 2020 police sets. It would've been super easy as all they would need to do is to use inspiration from past Lego City buses.

I'm hoping they'll bring the Brickster back too. It looks like he made some cameos in the 2013 aand 2014 police sets along with Lego City Adventures. So I'm keeping hope alive.

Yeah! I kinda miss Chase. But they need to appeal to kids and Duke seems to appeal to children more. Chase seems to appeal more to teens than children.

I'm not sure where you're getting that idea. I mean, Chase McCain was showing up in sets just last year (both in LEGO Dimensions and in City as a tie-in with the multiplatform release of LEGO City Undercover). For that matter, he starred in at least two easy-to-read LEGO City picture books that name dropped him in their titles. Needless to say, those weren't aimed at adults!

The fact that LEGO has introduced another named police officer in City sets hardly means that kids don't like Chase McCain. It's probably just that the creators of the LEGO City Adventures TV show wanted more of a blank slate to tell new stories around, rather than a character who already had established personality traits, motivations, fears, strengths, weaknesses, likes, dislikes, relationships, etc. But if LEGO City Undercover ever gets another prequel, spin-off, or sequel I have little doubt that Chase McCain will make a comeback!

And who knows? For a long time now, I've felt that one of the biggest changes we might see in a future LEGO City video game compared to LEGO City Undercover was co-op gameplay, which is a staple of most other LEGO video games. It's also the perfect setup for a "buddy cop" premise, with Chase having to work alongside a new partner who he struggles to get along with. Maybe a reckless hothead like Duke Detain is exactly the sort of co-star Chase needs to create the tension that a compelling "buddy cop" story is built around!

On that note, if they did make a sequel or spin-off to LEGO City Undercover in the future, I'm sure that the City Police "spin-offs" like Mountain Police, Swamp Police, etc. would provide useful connective tissue between the crime-fighting premise and a bunch of possible new areas to keep the gameplay and story from feeling too much like the first one! Sort of like how the Forest Police sets helped connect the crime-fighting premise of the original game with the areas and missions inspired by the more rural mining and farm subthemes.

Honestly, that's a big part of what I like about LEGO City not just showing stuff that's "in the city". It helps to illustrate how the things that happen in the city and the things that happen outside of it are all connected. Even in sets, we see numerous examples of that:

  • how the food that keeps LEGO City denizens fed originates with farms or fisheries and then travels by ship, truck, or train into the city.
  • how civilians who live in the city go on vacation to campgrounds in more remote locations.
  • how loggers and miners outside the city provide the resources that construction workers in the city depend on.
  • how explorers set out on expeditions from the city and bring back finds that can be exhibited at museums, space centers, and — perhaps one day — zoos or aquariums (although I understand how many obstacles might stand in the way in that regard).

In terms of non-subtheme-related stuff I'm curious about for 2020, I wonder if we'll see any further use of some of the brands we've seen alluded to in recent sets, most notably the "City Food Market" brand that showed up in the Xtra sticker sheet pack 853921.

@Aanchir Nah. I'm standing by my statement. Chase is better.

I never said you were wrong. But to be honest, this sort of adversarial attitude isn't really helpful to you or anyone. There's no reason that being a bigger fan of Chase McCain means you have to insult other LEGO characters — it's not like this is any sort of contest or competition where only one LEGO police officer character can have legitimate value.

It reminds me of the many times I've seen Ninjago fans on YouTube, Twitter, Instagram getting in a huge huff about how Ninjago is better than Legends of Chima or Nexo Knights, and treating fans of those themes like they're the enemy or the existence of those themes as some kind of threat or challenge to Ninjago. Of those three themes, I definitely prefer Ninjago… but framing them as enemies in some make-believe feud where only one can emerge victorious only makes interacting with other LEGO fans on those sites a less enjoyable and friendly experience for fans of ALL of those themes.

On some levels it's also reminiscent of the bizarre "DC vs. Marvel" or "Star Wars vs. Star Trek" or "Nintendo vs. Sega" feuds that kept superhero and sci-fi fan communities bitterly divided for a long time. But eventually, most people in those fan communities realized there was more that united them than divided them, and that they were all better off by having alternatives to choose between, and gained a shared appreciation for what value even the brands/franchises they had once looked down on had to offer.

I hope that eventually LEGO fans can arrive at a similar sense of solidarity, rather than so many fans having condescending or even outright hostile attitudes towards themes, subthemes, or characters that don't align with their own preferences. To some extent, I feel like these kinds of divisions HAVE diminished. At least in mainstream AFOL websites and fan events, it's nowhere near as common as it once was to hear people speak about themes like Bionicle or Ninjago with the same level of derision that you might hear towards themes like Galidor or Clikits today. But I think there's still some pretty widespread feelings of division beneath the surface that occasionally manage to bubble up in rather ugly ways.

Tbh, that kind of attitude isn't helpful to me or anyone either.

Trust me, Star Wars vs. Star Trek is alive and well.

Hidden Side and Ninjago leaks are flowing, still nil on the City front...
