Construction is one of the best themes in my opinion, for example 7905 Building Crane from 2006 which is massive! However there is one set coming out this year tagged ‘construction’ - 60252. Hopefully this will be a proper large crane of some kind - I’ve still not got a crawler crane and want one similar to 7632. Quote

I said the same thing about the townhouse toy store that's suppose to come for Creator in 2020, considering that we got a toy store from City with set number 60233. So I don't think its unlikely. meliander Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 OMG that school set is awesome! I would love to see a school in City. I think they haven't done it before, right? And with a school bus! This hidden side theme.... Ugh. I wish we got all that in City form - school bus, new train, school, shrimp shack, even the juice stand! Quote

They deliberately sell things under other themes that should really be sold under the City theme. Friends is a prime example. Same with Creator and Hidden Side. Quote

I think I've spotted a new cement mixer while watching a teaser for LEGO City Adventures on YouTube. I'll link it, if I find it. Got it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozFfeEzWpLU&t=256s Pause it at 4:16, you can see it for a very brief moment there. Quote

SFmuscle73 Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 I think the closest we will ever get to a school in the city line is a police academy as LEGO loves them any police themed set no matter how far a stretch - sky police anyone? Quote

Don't remind me. Truthfully speaking, I only count the classic police sets as the only real police sets. Heck, it was classic police that started it all. Those extra special police sets mean nothing. This would explain 60257 which doesn't really fit in the rest of the lineup, meaning in a racing theme. And it would offer the opportunity that in 60257 and / or 60258 we could get more buildings and stuff than only that what you think about when reading the set name (in comparison: The 60233 Donut Shop Opening included a toy store and many vehicles which you don't think about when reading the set name "Donut Shop Opening".) How neatly stuff fits in conceptually isn't always a huge priority for how LEGO plans their releases… after all, just look at what sets were included in the airport subtheme in 2010! https://web.archive.org/web/20100704183312/http://city.lego.com/en-us/products/default.aspx I think they've gotten somewhat better about making sure stuff ties together in a more understandable way, but I definitely wouldn't be surprised to see them all a part of a shared subtheme, especially if they all feature Octan colors and branding like many racing-related products in the Classic Town days. After all, they listed 6562 as part of the Racing subtheme in the 1996 catalogs! Alternatively, I don't remember what the source was for a lot of these names, but depending on whether they were English originally or translated from another language, it could also be that the official name for 60257 might end up being something with a meaning closer to "pit stop", which would unambiguously fit with the racing theme. But your theory about them being tied to the TV show isn't a far-fetched possibility, either! I guess we'll find out sooner or later… 10 hours ago, AnyColourYouLike said: Sky Police and Swamp Police are the most absurd ones. Oh, and the Moutain Police. I don't see what's absurd about Swamp Police or Mountain Police. It's not like cities and towns only exist in places where there are no swamps or forests or mountains around. Also, it might be bias on my part from living in the United States, but most of the Swamp Police sets feel really believable for cities/towns along the gulf coast, and likewise the Mountain Police sets feel pretty believable for cities/towns in the Rocky Mountains or Appalachian Mountains. They also have styles of architecture we simply wouldn't see at all if sets only focused on stuff that happens in the middle of a huge city like London, Paris, or New York. It's weird to see so many complaints about how few houses Town has compared to City, and yet at the same time complaints that City should only focus on stuff that's unambiguously set in a big city. Many of the houses in Classic Town like 6552, 6592, and 6338 more closely resembled rural or suburban settings than anything that you might expect to see near a big municipal hospital, parking garage, or airport. Sure, a subtheme situated in a swamp or in the mountains might seem unfamiliar to people who don't live near any cities or towns with that kind of biome. But likewise, a subtheme like Coast Guard or Divers/Deep Sea Explorers or Harbor would be just as unfamiliar to somebody living in, say, Kansas or Montana. All in all, I don't see how it makes sense to try and solve the feelings of repetition people get from always having Police sets by making a rule against the LEAST repetitive aspect of those sets, and excluding loads of potential non-police-related sets in the process. Stuff like the Outback, Launch Command, Farm, Divers, Racing, Extreme Team, and Mining sets might never have existed if LEGO Town and City stuck to a "generic metropolitan subject matter only" rule. The Island Chronicles Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 (edited) @Aanchir I think people complain simply because TLG's City division does a subtheme for police every year. I understand that you may be a little annoyed by the criticism of the police themes. But let's come to an understanding on something. Critics are actually seeing the big picture here. The big picture is that they are still police sets. I believe that they know that it changes every year. But it doesn't matter to them because they look at the word on the stickers.....POLICE. Tbh, to shut those people up, but make a bundle and some happy children at the same time....I propose that City makes classic police THE police subtheme for City. Outside of that, they should only do one or two police sets in the other years. An entire police subtheme year after year though doesn't seem to be necessary to customers. And in a successful business, customers should matter more. Yeah...you and a lot of the other people on Eurobricks love them, but you're just a minority. Edited October 17, 2019 by pooda Quote

It's actually AFOL who are the minority. We represent approximately 10% of Lego total sales. So TLG is going to continue to cater to their primary and largest market: children. If anyone here would let a small fraction of their total sales dictate the product that they offer as a whole then its not surprising that they aren't in charge of TLG. Quote
The Island Chronicles Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 @koalayummies True! But just as people have a right to like them....people also have a right to dislike them as well. They also have a right to give recommendations of improvement without being seen as a crook. Quote
