Bringing some Mom commentary- 60271 is absolutely a set that my kids are both going to want, we are working on a family layout that would benefit greatly from these buildings and my son in particular is very into the show.  In short, we are absolutely the target demographic but that price is such a barrier!

So you're a parent too. I'm also a dad and this is a set that my children would love too. I'm actually working on getting a table for our town as my town is currently on an old desk of mine. If only Lego made more sets like this for City too.

Most of the buildings in our town are MOCs. Ever since 2018, it kinda became clear to me that injust wasn't going to see certain buildings for City and by late 2020, I began MOCing buildings. My current MOCs are a bus terminal, post office and a small medical clinic. My children are pros already and they're only 9 and 6 (my sons fraternal are twins). Both my sons and my daughter recently perfected a look for a grocery store front and a fire station.

As for vehicles, I usually get older ones as they are more realistic and detailed. Though I do have some newer ones as well. My kids have enough police cars and fire trucks - most of which were passed down from me. So we're kinda taking a break from those. I currently have the 2009 tow truck, 2014 race car and 2016 rally car coming in the mail.

Tell me more about your town. What's your town like? Whats the name?

I love that- what is the name of your town?  We have plans for a rectangular Lego layout table once it is safe to purchase two more Trofast storage units.  We have to travel to get to an IKEA so that is on hold. This weekend I think my husband is going to draw up a plan to at least build the top over the Trofast we already have with temporary legs so that Lego builds have somewhere to go (and no longer take up every available surface in this house) Until this is fully built, our town is made up of "districts" that live on various selves.  What are you doing for your table? How do you store your Lego for your kids?

Our current town is Animal Train Town- bet you can tell what my children's main interests are : ) My daughter and I are much more detail and interior focused MOCers and my husband is the structure/exterior MOCer.  My son seems to be developing an eye for both!  My kids are 7 and 4 so we are still straddling the Duplo to regular system transition. Currently, we are building a large Duplo indoor playhouse before we pack it all away.  Anyway, all of that is to say, most of our buildings are from sets, Friends and Creator with kid builds mixed in.  Our town is minidoll and minifig inclusive.  We currently have a Dragon and Dino district that was destroyed by a tantruming nephew- that is where our Elves buildings live (I Miss this theme- best buildings in the game.)  Connected to that is usually Fawn Park- a park where most of the animals live.  My daughter's favorite mammal is a deer so the new deer print is going to knock her socks off!  We built a theme park out of Friend's carnival sets and Toy Story sets that won't win any design cred, but my kiddos are thrilled with which is all that matters.
We are having a "yes" weekend next weekend because our kids miss their friends, didn't get a vacation and will be home schooled in the Fall.  So, I think we are going to buy them the Passenger Train to anchor the larger town layout the bigger table will allow us to have as well as the Friend's Waterpark to fill out the theme park area- it is hard to balance our love of Lego with raising entitled Lego monsters.  These large sets are not the norm here so I think it will be a treat that hopefully makes them smile!

As far as MOCS- I'm currently working on a Library because much of our pre pandemic lives centered around Library programming so our layout residents need one too!  Again, it isn't pretty from the outside because as my daughter says "Mom is an Ellie V, not a Jangbricks builder," :) but full of little details that make us smile and have play value for my kids.  The Librarian is a ninja which is a pretty rad touch!

Anyway, back to City specifically- since my kids are getting bigger ticket sets next weekend *maybe* 60271 is a set we'd consider for the holidays but eek, that price point is still a lot since they already are already dreaming of smaller sets too!   As far as vehicles, my son went through a phase of sleeping with the iconic Pizza van and nothing vintage or new can probably top that!

Edit: 60257 is on sale so I'm debating prebuying it for Christmas- love the VW van and Electric car.

I also think it will be using the same small train wheels as the orange tram.

Yes, exactly.

Btw: I did a detailed review of 60266 Ocean Exploration Vessel. You can find it here (EB) or here (youtube).

@Gobias1234 That's great to hear. My wife gets involved in the action too. But Friends is her thing while City is mine. I usually store the buildings and vehicles in bins. When we're ready to take them out, the builds are already put together. Our town is called Franklin Street. That's my last name. It's actually a small section in Lego City - therefore characters like the mayor, Duke DeTain or Freya McCloud cameo. Matter of fact, that's where all the first responders are. I also like to do fanfiction. I hated the named characters at first, but I actually am starting to kinda like them. My wife and I have been making plans to get some tables to set it up on. Unfortunately because of COVID-19, those plans have been halted. That pandemic has really caused a lot of trouble. But by God's grace, we'll get through it.

is it time to start a 2021 page, 2020 is basically over, all sets have been revealed

I was actually thinking of doing the same thing. But I thought I'd wait until some news comes out regarding 2021 City sets. But then again, the City 2019 page didn't wait for news. So I guess.

Until there's real news of a set number list or something, there's not much to discuss in a 2021 topic.

It would likely just turn into wishlisting but there's the ideas for new City sets already for that.

My predicitions for 2021 (not a wishlist, just based on set release patterns every 3-4 years).

  • Police: likely would be a themed outdoor Police wave (2012/2015/2018 all had Forest / Swamp / Mountain Police 1 year after regular City Police), with a mix of land/air/water vehicles. But the late 2020 Elite Police lighthouse/boat sets could also indicate another water-based Police (Prison Island/Harbor Police?)
  • Fire: probably gets something like a larger Boat as that hasn't been seen for a while and the small 2019 Dockside Fire boat is on a retiring list.
  • Construction: 2009/2012/2015/2018 all had construction themed sets with Construction , Mining, Demolition, and Mining again on a 3 year cycle
  • Coast Guard: 2013/2017 had coast guard , and that could go along with the current Divers/Ocean Research sets.

Of course there's the possibility of the return of something like Coast Guard based on the 4-year release schedule, but just nothing concrete yet.

Coast Guard is one of those guaranteed subthemes for City. Its definitely coming back in 2021.

There will be an outdoor themed police wave for sure. You basically read my mind there.

I hope the industrial subtheme is either Harbor or Construction. We haven't seen a real working Harbor since 2011.

I hope a full public transportation wave is possible for City next year. Perhaps during the summer.

I just want a zoo theme! They have had animals in a few sets, but stuff like the safari truck that clearly don't take place in Lego City feels like a hint towards similar sets in the near future.

Interestingly enough, next City magazine here in NL will have the brown (Dark Orange) motorcycle from the tuning workshop.

Also fairly unique parts for the minifig, with this Torso (only seen in the Tuning Workshop) :

And a helmet in Dark Orange, which is also new for 2020 (2 other sets so far) :

But no picture on Brickset yet , and no release date listed in the magazine itself :look: But the City magazines in NL certainly are on a less frequent release compared to Germany since 2020, only been 4 issues so far and it's nearly September, so wouldn't surprise me if there's only 6 this year here.

2021 set lists are leaking, so far ninjago, harry potter, and overwatch, + a few larger sets. so its possible that a 2021 set list could be leaked soon.

Yeah! Someone put up on the 2021 Lego City page that the next wave is Jungle Police. We had to remove it for false information. I'm waiting till official info comes.

@Brandon Pea I think that leak can be true, in 2012 Lego did the forest Police subtheme and in 2018 Lego maded a new Police subtheme that was quite similar to the forest Police One ,so they can a make a subtheme similar to the swamp Police in the next year, but who Said that leak ?

That's what I am expecting,  a multi-purpose terrain based Police with a mix of air/water/ground, 1 year after regular Police , we got Forest (2012), then Swamp (2015), then Mountain(2018), all 1 year after regular City Police (2011,2014,2017)

Some dude named Yvonne.

Personally, I don't approve of the saturation of action outside of the city being a theme about city life. That kind of generic action should be it's own theme - Lego Outdoors: From the Designers of City. But, no use in protesting that because Lego won't do that.
