Most  Defenders are powered with Diesel engines (torque is more important for off-road than Shire power)

Also dieselheads. Does the term vary by fuel type?

clean, modern lines and sculpted surfaces

Yeah
It looks like the next useless fake suv that was designed for pensionanda.
another dacia duster
It lost the connection with the bushcraft car that we loved so much, with spades and fueltanks hanging, rivercrossing high inlet, EVERYTHING.

Now we have saloon Offroader and as you mentioned Dacia (which is no Offroader and will never win any beauty content if I may say in that way). Good news about real is that it will have ladder type chassis and not just selfcarying like VW Golf or other road cars...and old Range Rover had proper suspension that is the truth...

Looks good. Like the new squared wheel arches but a bit useless at the moment being in a new colour. But I do get why they chose that colour as a very typical Landy.

any idea of release date and cost? As there’s another 4x4 to buy too!

sorry just seen £160 according to Smyths website that the image is from

Unexpectedly very pretty! And it will be a DAMN site more reliable than the real thing!!  (assuming the new defender is as bad as disco and rangy's.. they breakdown so much!!)

Almost 0 pin holes are visible in this model... I would call it a mix between technic and model team.

Definitely more model team than pure Technic - and look at all of those cheese slopes, going to be a PITA to get them all aligned nicely.

I normally run a long brick of Technic lift arm along the edge to align them

Having seen the photo's, the first thought was: that wheel arch has got to be the ugliest panel so far in the whole lineup. How's that gonna be useful for anything else than Land Rover wheel arches? At least the Porsche wheel arches can sit flush with beams at the bottom ends. I don't see how this one can be built into a model.

Also, again a new color? I mean, I like 42039, but I haven't used the parts much yet, and it's been 4 years...

Also the tires are too thin and wide, and the rims too large. For me, it detracts from the model. If they're going all the way, why not go all the way?

Let's hope the technical functions are up to par, because personally I'm not convinced by the looks so far. Especially that horrid wheel arch. I thought Lego was about using existing parts to build cool stuff? Apparently, realistic looks and single-use parts are prefered above a sensible interlocking bricks system. Woe the designer if people can see that it's a Lego set. :sadnew:

Too many new colors that add little value to the technic line, due to a lack of variety in pieces.  Otherwise, it looks nice.

BL Colors: Blue, Med. Blue, Dk. Blue, Med. Azure, Dk. Azure, Dk. Purple, Bright Green, Green, Lime and now Olive Green(?).

If Lego chose just 3 of the above shades to use in their models, then we might have a nice selection in those colors.

I guess it is supposed to represent the so-called Heritage color, hence also the white roof. But as a color match it's not that successful, would any other TLG color be a better match? I'm glad the rims aren't this color as well.

This would do:

21042?scl=1.7&op_sharpen=1

TLG, however, went for this:

I dunno.  I actually like the color and prefer it to the first picture, even if this is an accurate color for a Land Rover.  I agree that the color in the statue of L. is a better match to the first pic, but even the first pic I don't like.  Too "easter-color" - like.  Too light.  its almost teal for god's sake.

Like it or not, it actually matches a lot of (at least american-made) off road vehicle color palettes.  Could have been a little darker though.  But I do agree, too many colors in not enough elements.  Good for single models but bad for what I thought the whole Lego motto was supposed to stand for.  Creativity and building something on your own.

In addition, would the excessive wheel arches be trying to mimic something like the above?  I know this is not completely consistent with the actual model they are mimicking (Land Rover) but on the real vehicle there are large wheel arches.  And there is a tendency to over-exaggerate wheel arches on off-road vehicles.

And maybe you can be patient and wait some time before TLG releases more Technic parts in Olive Green ?

You can't have everything available with one single set...

Lol  "and maybe you can be patient....."

Settle down.  Just mimicking what has already been stated by others.  Perhaps you can understand the context that the original comment was made in. Sets years ago released in certain colors have not yielded much in terms of additional pieces in those colors.  In the context of the comment, "patience" has not paid off.
