L-space Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 And finally the excitement is back. What will the next race bring: will Brawn pick up the pace? is Webber ready for another win? It is getting more interesting fortunatley. Quote
Modulex Guy Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 I'm a huge F1 fan! I'm a big fan of my fellow Polish driver, Robert Kubica! Too bad though BMW is struggling this year for both drivers, last year they were both so well and this year they just fell off the deep end. ...Oh well, everyone has their off years, just like Mercedes Mclaren and Ferrari this year too. L-space Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Webber to win the championship ;) I detect a little chauvinism? Quote
5150 Lego Posted July 15, 2009 Author Posted July 15, 2009 I'd just like to congratulate Webber on his maiden win!!!!! i knew he could do it, even if it has taken 8 seasons.Harsh call on the drive through in my opinion. Congrats to Webber. Its about time. Have to disagree on the drive through. He clearly bumped Rubens and could have caused a nasty accident. To bad for Hamiltion. Such a great start, only to get a flat on the first turn. His car had such great improvment in practice. Had the wether held up, i think he could have taken pole on his final qualifing lap. Quote
DB24 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Hamilton certainly did get a smashing start, however i think it was Webber's front wing that ruined his race. Not just a random flat. In my opinion, he came into turn 1 far too hot, and was never really going to get a clean run around the outside of Webber. Quote

I agree that he came in a bit to hot, but hemight have made the turn if he didn't make contact with Webber as you described. Again, this is a maybe. He's proven he can make deep turns in the past. DB24 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 (edited) The British commentators mentioned something about a small touch, and i thought i read somewhere that Webber said his front wing was slightly damaged from the incident.. hmm Q: Mark, you mentioned the incident at the start with Rubens. A lot of people have described it as very aggressive. It was a very aggressive drive generally but some wheel banging from you on the run down to turn one. Take us through it.MW: I knew my start wasn’t absolutely fantastic and I just moved across a little bit and as soon as I hit him I said ‘there he is.’ It was a bit of a surprise. I think I clipped the back of Lewis (Hamilton) if that was Lewis. I am not sure which McLaren it was. I lost a little bit of the front wing endplate I think but with these KERS cars and the way the mirrors are set up on these cars now, all the aerodynamic stuff, everyone is in similar situation. It was a difficult first run to the first corner but we got away okay. Thats from the official F1 website. Seems like Webber isn't really sure if he did or didn't... Modulex Guy Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Anyone watch Qualifying today?? Massa's Crash was horrible, he got hit in the head with a spring off of Ruben's Braun car. I hope he recovers well from the incident. Quote
5150 Lego Posted July 26, 2009 Author Posted July 26, 2009 Just saw. I hope Massa makes a speedy recovery. Though the comentators say he will be just fine. Very interesting qualifying round. Good to see Mclaren getting back up in the ranks! Also Congrats to Alonso. Nice to see a different face on the podium. Should be a very interesting race tomorrow! Quote
DB24 Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 I watched the replay on youtube of Massa's crash, it looks horrible! He's so unlucky to be hit like that.. Anyone think Hamilton will lead into turn one? Quote
KimT Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Anyone watch Qualifying today??Massa's Crash was horrible, he got hit in the head with a spring off of Ruben's Braun car. I hope he recovers well from the incident. It's Brawn, not Braun... A shame for Massa, I blame Barrichello - No seriously, that was a horrible accident and I hope he'll get well soon. Boy am I glad to see Alonso on pole, it's time Renault got to work. 3 Renault engines on top, hopefully Alonso can keep up and stay on the podium in the end. Is this the end for Brawn GP's dominance? Anyone think Hamilton will lead into turn one? You're kidding, right? Right?! Very interesting qualifying round. Good to see Mclaren getting back up in the ranks! Also Congrats to Alonso. Nice to see a different face on the podium. Should be a very interesting race tomorrow! Thank you Yeah, it's great to see McLaren and Renault finally up there, sadly it's more than a little too late this season. Anyone heard anything new on the rumored Pirate League? The last think I heard was that after the truce was signed, Max did something stupid and it all went and hit the fan again. Quote
KimT Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Horrible race for Alonso and Vettel. A shame they both had to quit Congratulations to Hamilton who showed how to race and kick some serious butt. Raikonnen also showed that Ferrari are more than competitive at the moment. Looks like the rest of the season will prove quite interesting. Quote
-JD- Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 I feel very sorry for Massa. That must have hurt a lot when he became concious. I'm glad Hamilton is back in the game! Quote
KimT Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Nooooooooooooooooooooooo! From Formula1.com: Renault will miss the next round of the championship for allowing Fernando Alonso to leave the pits with a wheel not properly secured during Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix.A mistake attaching the front-right wheel at Alonso's first stop led to it coming loose from the car once the Spaniard had returned the track. He limped back to the pits but was subsequently forced to retire due to resulting damage. Budapest stewards decided Renault had been negligent in failing to secure the wheel, in knowingly letting Alonso leave the pits with the problem, and in failing to inform their driver of the issue. Renault are to appeal the decision. Should that appeal fail it means Alonso and team mate Nelson Piquet will not participate in the European Grand Prix on August 21-23 Goddammit! Quote

But if you look at the replay, it was clear that the pit crew was aware of this when he left the pits. not sure if they will be succsesfull in their fight. Either way, someone on the renault team getting fired! On a good note, Congratsto Lewis Hamiltion and the McLaren team!! Ha ha! I knew you still had it in you! Great Job Lewis! Great Job Henki! Great Job McLaren! Well done boys well done! Also, congrats to Kimi Rikioneen! Good job! Although its still uncertain wether or not he will be getting a penalty with his colision with Vettel. We'll have to wait and see. Quote
DB24 Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Was the wheel properly secured? Or was it just the cover that was loose. I thought the vibrating cover shook the wheel loose when i was watching.. Quote
5150 Lego Posted July 28, 2009 Author Posted July 28, 2009 Was the wheel properly secured? Or was it just the cover that was loose.I thought the vibrating cover shook the wheel loose when i was watching.. The wheels was never properly secured. As soon as he left the pits, the wheel cover started to spin. Also in the shot, the mechanic even catches this; waving his had to stop. Well,it looks like Massa came out of his surgery ok. The doctor thinks that he'll walk out of the hospital in about 10 days, but his motorsport career might be coming to an end, Rumor is the Micheal Schumacer might fill in for time being.... If they ask him to that is. Quote
5150 Lego Posted July 29, 2009 Author Posted July 29, 2009 Its been confirmed... Micheal Schumacher is returning to F1 to replace Massa for the remainder of the 09' season. http://planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3213_5460392,00.html Quote
KimT Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 That's great. Poor Brawn... looks like they have to fight for the Championship for real now What really pisses me off, is that Renault gets penalized for letting Alonso out on the track, but Brawn gets nothing for dropping a spring during Qualify that knocks Massa unconcious... C'mon letting a car ride that drops a spring.... shouldn't someone have noticed that the spring was loose? But I guess it's easier to penalize Renault as they are not a contender for the Championship... Just imagine what they'd done to McLaren had it been their spring that fell off. Quote
Modulex Guy Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 BMW Sauber is leaving F1 next year. NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/29...ve-formula-one/ At least some good news is that there are rumors of Robert Kubica moving to Ferrari for 2010. (I hope) Looks like all of my Robert Kubica BMW Sauber hats, shirts, flag, diecast cars, posters, and all other random BMW Sauber stuff will now be rather collectible. Quote

But I guess it's easier to penalize Renault as they are not a contender for the Championship... Just imagine what they'd done to McLaren had it been their spring that fell off. I think that's a bit different than letting a car out the pits with a loose wheel. Parts coming off during a race can happen. That's an unfortunate part of racing. The difference between brawnsspring, and Renault's wheels is that Brawn were not aware that the spring came out till after Rubens was back in the pits. There's no way way anyone could have known that. On the other hand with Renault, if you watch a replay, you can see the Renault mechanic staring at the wheel flap spinning as Alonso was leaving the pits. This is an indication that they were aware of the problem before Alonso radioed them about having a possible flat. This was negligence on Renault's part. Now that said, does the punishment fit the crime? Personally, i think its a bit harsh. Especially considering the inconsistency of the stewards in the past with similar situations. BMW Sauber is leaving F1 next year. I have my doubts that Ferrari will be picking Robert Kubica as a driver for next year. With Massa possibly out for the rest of this season and possibly for 2010', Kimi might have a secured spot for 2010'. And while neither Alonso, nor Ferrari will admit it, i think we all know that he'll be going to Big Red next year. The rest of the season will be very interesting. Quote
KimT Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Alonso will be with Ferrari next year, I am quite sure of that. Not sure he'll do better there than he did with McLaren. He needs to be the Golden Boy he is with Renault and no other team will give him that. I highly doubt that Massa will be downsized in priority compared to Alonso next season. Also the great issue has apparently been solved since all teams just signed the concorde contract running until 2012. I guess it helps having Jean Todt as the next FIA President. Quote
Nikau Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 A Red Bull and Williams fan here. I also like Webber and Rosberg amoung the drivers. Quote
The Cobra Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Schumacher gave up because of neck problems. Luca Badoer will fill in for Massa. Quote
