wesker Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 I'm likely going to pass on this year's Advent Calendar. Don't need multiples of the main characters and army builders aren't that exciting if they can already be found in battlepacks. Glad we're at least getting a new Pit Droid after 20 years. Hope to see clearer pics of that and the Christmas Darth Vader soon. Quote

Considering that the normal one is basically minifigure scale, I don’t think they’d have trouble with the wings since they could basically adapt those designs. Obviously nothing confirmed, but that seems more and more likely now. In all honesty, I don’t know what people expected. I can recall four minifigure scale UCS sets not counting the playsets, and all of them were models where a minifigure scale version can’t really be achieved at a price point for minifigure sets (Slave I, both Falcons, and Imperial Shuttle). The Gunship is already minifig scale at a mass retailer price point ($120-$140ish), and we’ve never had a case where a UCS version of a ship they can already create at an accurate scale continues to stay at that scale. Yeah, I think the majority of people were expecting it to be bigger. I think this puts the set on track for a May 2020 release, unless I missed something. 5 hours ago, jdubbs said: I'm so glad you're expending this much energy debating this really important point, rather than doing something truly productive like gazing at your navel. I hope we agree mandalorian is OT (OT stormies, Imperial remnants, no resistence/first order, knights of ren, OT X-wings etc.) So then its 18% and it will go down after mando season 2, Obi-Wan and Cassian shows :) I’m surprised you spent so much time to put into arguing that the ST has less screen time as part of an argument about a Star Wars LEGO set against some idiot on a forum. Sure, 18%, You’ve done the math! At the end of the day it’s still an entire trilogy and they’re not going to ignore it, and whether or not you personally like them isn’t going to impact whether or not they show up. (This also seems like a good time to peddle the “advent calendars are how LEGO gets rid of leftover figure stock” conspiracy, since all these figures showed up in 2019/2020 sets, besides the exclusive ones) Your mind clearly won’t be changed on the quality of the set on your opinion, and I won’t try. ARC2149Nova Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 I mean, I personally dislike the ST and don't understand much of it's appeal (though tbh, that's mostly due to TLJ and Reylo ), and while the ST does have it's fans, it is the least popular SW media by far, and that includes Rebels, TCW, Mandalorian, and all the movies. Even so, you can't exactly ignore it, no matter how much some (myself included) would like too. Besides, there are some cool things to come out of it (FO Stormtroopers, Resistance Troopers, FO Transport, X- & A-Wing Pilots), so it's not all bad, at least from a figure perspective. At least the figures can be used to create new storylines, movies be damned. But, this is an Advent Calendar, something I've never really bought it the past, though some figures are quite tempting (Merrick, various Rebels), but who doesn't want ugly sweater Vader? Life Day party anyone? So, as a Calendar, they would need to split the 8 figure selection between all 11 movies, 4 TV shows, picking the most relevant, of course. TROS just got released on streaming, so the iron's still hot. Besides, Rey's TROS outfit is probably her best one, so it's nice to get a repeat of the costume at least. I don't care about the yellow sabre, I have the Sinestro set. My only gripe is that they could've, should've included Grandpalpatine, in all his Eternal glory, but I digress. Quote

As for the second part, I think it’s possible they might be fast-tracking this one, as they must have with the baby yoda brickheadz and statue, but you’re probably right in that it won’t be finished in time for 2021. IMO the films themselves are overall better than the prequels, but including the clone wars show makes the prequels better than the sequels. Overall fan opinion could impact sets, but definitely not the play scale ones. For instance, the comparative lack of prequel UCS is probably due to the adult target audience of those sets, and the fact that most adults hate the prequels. Now the generation that were kids when they saw the prequels are adults, and prequel opinion has gone up, leading to them winning the poll. If the gunship sells well, we’ll certainly see more UCS. But for the average system set, LEGO doesn’t care that some adult fans found jar jar annoying, or Rey to be overpowered. Quote

m4st3rt3ch Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 Did i hear Caravan of Courage? Don't forget Droids and the Holiday Special. Man, a calendar with that Boba Fett would sell. Back to topic: I like what's known about the calendard, so far. Sith Trooper, classic Stormie, Tattoine Luke, Rey, special Poe & Vader. I might buy a second one, when it's on discount, just for collecting. But i'll buy any SW advent calendar, being it good or bad doesn't matter. That thing is sitting on my desk at work and it's an absolute joy to show up at work and open a door, before divingg into the mail flood. Even the 3 modays before christmas become bearable, because then 3 doors have to be opened. Quote

That is my experience and that is why I don't really understand why lego re-release more or less the same sets over and over again, MF, landspeeders, x-wings, battlepack speeders etc. Because if they also have some people (kids or adults doesn't matter) that want to collect new settings and vehicles, then they would sell more with at least some variety instead of the same stuff over and over again with some minor modifications. They would save money just keeping the same construction or just change the figures or colour of some pieces if that is different from one triology to another. Why redesign and waste money every each or second year on redesigns if the waste majority of the buyers have no idea and the next generation of kids would just settle with any SW related build. I just dont think it makes sense. I understand that there are developments over a ten year period but some objects just get redesigned to often. It's just seems unnecessarily. I told my mom, family and friends that i hate ot and only love pt but they had no idea what any of that is and bought me lego sets from star wars theme, and based the price of the set with the significance of what we celebrated, for example if its birthday or christmas i would get 100$ plus sets. Their mind was also set on something if they heard about character without ever watching a movie or being into it,such as darth vader, yoda, ewoks, princess amidala,r2,c3po. Even now when i am in my twenties my sister got me ahch-to island training set cause she thought its pretty and i dont have it.Would probably be different if they were into it too,but even though i dont enjoy the movies i still want some iconic stuff like at-st,at-at,royal guards, biker scouts, ewoks, imperial shuttle, endor based sets. I will skip on advent calendar cause there is no prequel figures except pit and battle droid. I can just bricklink 3 pit droids. Glad there is our first lucrehulk in 21 years even if its in mini form. Still waiting for AAT to leak, thats the set i look towards the most atm. Quote

Well, like you said, there's Padme, but just how the OT used to outshine the PT in Lego, I think both trilogies will outshine the sequels, given time. Besides, there's nothing iconic about them, maybe Exegol, maybe Starkiller Base, but that's it. If they want an X-Wing, a TIE Fighter, a walker of some kind, then the OT vehicles will triumph, every time. In the end, it's all a matter of perspective. Toy companies feel out the fanbase, Lego included. If they gather that their bread is buttered by the classic saga more (OG 6 films), then that's how they'll stay. It doesn't matter whether you like, dislike, or hate the sequels, that's just the way it is. Also, as to the yellow lightsaber question brought up a few pages back, maybe Rey'll have it in the Night Buzzard set? And are we certain there'll only be 3 figures in it? Quote

Personally, I only got into LEGO Star Wars after I saw TFA in late 2015, and I never have had a huge budget, so I’m immensely glad we got another normal falcon in 2019 (not white/blue or a different scale), and another OT tie fighter, and x-wing, etc. Quote

I suppose you could argue that Lego should just produce iconic sets like the Falcon or an X-Wing for longer than usual rather than doing a re-release every couple of years and only doing re-releases when they can make significant updates and improvements, but that would probably just cause us to get less sets in the long run due to production and/or shelf space. They did actually do this with an X-Wing, I specifically remember the 2005 version (the one with like seven figures) being available at Toys R Us through what felt like 2010 or later. That may have been a TRU exclusive, so maybe they just way overproduced it, but I do remember it happening at least once. I think from LEGO’s perspective, a re-release accomplishes three things. One, they can improve the building techniques/minifigures as new pieces come along; two, they can justify an increase in price (I don’t think they’ve ever raises the price of an existing set, which I do appreciate); three, completionists will buy it because it’s new, even if they already have fifteen X-Wings already.
