I'm not sure of I like where this theme is going... The sets this year have been EXTREMELY overpriced (for example TIE Dagger or Grievous' Starfighter), and now we hear that Battle Packs will disappear? Come on Lego, why would you do that?

I'm holding out hope for the battle packs until I see a confirmed set list for next year.

Although really, personally, I think we have seen the golden years of Lego Star Wars and it's diminishing returns from here. Also purely personally... that's kind of OK.

Yeah they’ve gotten extremely stingy with this theme lately, I don’t like where it's going either. Designs are spectacular but prices are ridiculous and minifig counts are pathetic. And no more battle packs is a huge let down

Unless Mos Eisley is *amazing* and not just because its big and Star Wars... I'm done with SW (well, ill get one 501st BP but thats it). The set prices have become absolutely ridiculous and I'm no longer willing to be mugged off

There are alot of opinions here, some i agree with and some i disagree with.

Whatever your stance, please vote with your wallet. Buying AATs and 501st sets in bulk is only going to reassure LEGO and have their marketing departments and higher ups greenlight sets that will hurt the consumer. I know this is parroted often on the Internet but believe me these companies have marketing departments who study trends very closely and sales send strong messages for future decisions. The IT-S is the only set ill pick up because its probably the only set at a good price and meets legos proper design standards.

Also that CCBS super battle droid and 501st walkers cancellation still hurts

My Lego SW purchases have tapered off too. Imagine if Lego did a SW set along the Ninjago city/docks quality. Anyway that's off topic. I'm with you, taking the BP announcement with a pinch of salt and hope they continue.

I have £220 of VIP points poised for the mos eisley set. I hope I'm not disappointed!

That’s true! Still, it’s possible to buy saving money. I only bought a couple of sets directly from Lego, Vader's TIE Advanced vs. A-Wing Starfighter (50% discount) and Slave 1 (I believe 20% discount + GWP). I bought other new sets cheaper from other stores, often waiting some time after release until prices went down or offers came. Or else I bought on marketplace websites a number of used sets very cheap, like Republic Gunship, AT-AT and Rex’s AT-TE for about 20-30€ (!!!). The point is, as AFOL I can be more patient, not buy on day one and wait/search for better prices. I plan to do this with the latest AT-AT and Razor Crest.

I do just that. If I find a set I really want, I sit tight until I find it at a price I think is decent. Generally works out ok, but sometimes I miss out - I never saw a Cloud City for less than £250, which I still wasn't willing to pay. What this means is I hardly ever buy from Lego.com, and miss out on the VIP offers.

I'm in a strange place with lego Star Wars atm. Mostly because I now have a child to raise and no time for my own hobbies, but also, I've got almost everything I want out of the theme: every ship I like either moc'ed or modded, almost every figure I like from sets, aftermarket or custom. It's almost all OT. I will probably sell on almost all my sequel stuff cos I am kind of sickened by it. I want a Razor Crest but will try not to get one.

The cantina will probably be my last ever big LSW purchase, it fills in the last gaps in my collection (unless they ever make Beru Lars) which saddens me but also feels like a good curtain call for a part of my life.

Same here, I haven't bought anything from LEGO for a long time. The VIP programme isn't as useful as it once was since they changed it which has definitely had an impact, for me at least.

At this point if it's a set I perceive to be of decent value I'd consider getting it from the website directly, but at this point that's only really the Razor Crest and 501st set, and I'll probably indulge in an advent calendar. I've always had a weakness for UCS sets but those are generally decent value, even if the price is high. The rest I can wait on.

Just seen Jang’s review of the Night Buzzard. Interestingly, he mentions about a rumor that the design team thought it was a hovertank, which could explain how the set was designed (e.g. the two hatches). Despite this somehow makes sense, even the Imperial Hovertank had more interior space.

About the alleged cancellation of battlepacks, I'm holding out until we hear the official say from lego, be it from a press statement or the announcement of the winter wave. Until then I'll hope the BP will keep being a staple of the line, since they are -as stated by many- one of the last holdouts of a reasonably priced entry-level set for SW.

Regarding the new wave, I wanted to get a couple of 501st sets and the AAT, as many here, but they sold out on the italian S@H in less than 4 hours (I remembered to check at 4 AM and they were not listed anymore) and I have not even seen any of the ne SW sets in the local stores. It looks like they all concentrated on Mario for the august releases.
Then again, after seeing more pictures and videos of the AAT I'm getting doubts about it, because as much as I'd love the figures the build leaves really much to be desired to justify the full price point. I'm thinking the main problem is that the bottom half seems built around those 45 degree slopes on the sides of the driver cabin, but I hope it'll be easily moddable.

The rest of the wave is a bit of a mixed bag: don't need the Eta-2 since I have the 2014 one, loathe the sequels so the night tank buzzard is not for me, don't feel anything for the I-TS, Soulless One is nice but not worth the price, just bought Cloud City in april so I can't justify buying the 18+ duel although it's a beauty, but of course I love the three remaining sets (AT-AT, Razorcrest and Final Duel, having missed out the 2015 one) on the higher side of the price scale. I guess I'll have to wait for some flash sale or discount, but I don't think it'll be likely for those sets.

Same. I'm skeptical of this, especially since some of the rumors claim this is because of the 501st set, which makes no sense to me. There's not enough time between the 501st set's release and the january sets for it to have any impact on it.

Not just the number of minifigs... their quality is not overwhelming either, especially compared to other themes (Ninjago....), and even past SW waves. Few new moulds, lack of arm printing, and now reusing the Mustafar-bodies. Since minifigs are a very important part of LSW this is a very unsettling development.

(to be fair: the Solo line got 12 new moulds, but TRoS less than half that number)

Two things:

a) Lego already knows afols are willing to pay insane prices. Lego is a high price product anyway. It could get worse, yeah...

...but, b), one has to choose his battles. Right now it is more important to me that Lego understands my wish for many more PT/TCW-sets. That's my vote; that's my battle.

most brickfanatics articles are complete conjecture based on some leaks (either from here or the #legoleaks tag) or a cross-promotion with mandr (all the "first look" articles that somehow ignored any reviews earlier than mandr), outside of their interviews they're not a big-name or official lego afol news site (though is there really any that fits either category?) and they're not exactly a "reliable source"

I am of the same mind. I'm voting with my wallet precisely because I want LEGO to make more TCW/PT sets and despite its inaccuracies, I actually really like the AAT set. I'm very pleased to see how well the 501st set is selling though I'm certainly concerned about how hard it's going to be to get a hold of once it actually releases in the US.

I think the "rumors" about the end of battle packs is just people "doom and gloom"ing again. One of the biggest arguments against it is that it has nowhere nearly been long enough for the sales of the 501st set to impact LEGO's approach going forward. Honestly, if they do in fact change the battle packs from what we know them to be and make them more like the 501st set I'd be happy. If it means proper builds and actual blasters, sure it's more expensive than traditional battle packs and will be harder to get armies of but at least the builds wouldn't have to be throwaway trash or completely made up for the most part. Part of the fun of army building to me is having the proper vehicles to go with the infantry units.

Ya I was glad to see him bring that up because it's an idea I've brought up multiple times here and elsewhere and I'm wondering if he saw that. There are also some official promo posters for each of the summer sets I've seen leak that adds more evidence to that idea. I shows the Night Buzzard hovering above the sand with its nose tipped up toward Rey who is deflecting a blast from on of the cannons with Kuruk and Cardo sticking up out of the ports on the top like its a tank. That picture clearly makes it seem like a vehicle meant to hover over the ground. I can' help but be frustrated that it seems once again that Disney/Lucasfilm seems to have screwed up by not giving their merchandisers enough information to be able to make accurate products for their films. At least in this case the Night Buzzard looks spot on from the outside and will look amazing on display. I'm still very excited for it despite its flaws. One aspect about its design I'm surprised no one has pointed out yet, at least not in reviews is that the rear landing gear makes for a great swooshing handle.

I am the same as you,i vote with my wallet for prequel, mandalorian and clone wars sets. AAT is my favourite set in a while, but i still cant justify 80 dollars grievous starfighter.
LEGO got too arrogant in pricing since ucs falcon sold greatly for 800$.

It doesnt necessarily mean 30$ battle packs will be bad, just imagine if instead of that praetorian guard battle pack with random build and 3 guards you got 6 praetorian guards and a decent displayable throne room,or maybe we get cmf or accessory packs. We can speculate for days, better wait for january list which i hope will be very soon.

It's always somewhat subjective to whether or not something is overpriced, but I don't think many people think the falcon was that overpriced. There's a difference between how expensive something is and how overpriced it is.

I think its perfectly priced and perfect set. After it LEGO went greedy and overpriced everything from 700 star destroyer with only 2 lame figures to tie dagger and grievous starfighter now.

IMO there are more than enough vehicles and droids that would be small enough to be featured as battle pack builds: Imperial speeder bikes, rebel P-towers and DF.9 cannons, GAR BARC speeders, AT-RTs, and military load lifter droids, CIS dwarf spider droids, crab droids, and STAPs... Lego just tends to bump them up to a higher price or put them in larger sets, while needlessly making up trash for the battle packs.

Also, I said something to this effect a few pages ago but it applies again here - I don’t work for LEGO so I can’t say this with 100% certainty, but just from a business/marketing perspective, I’m almost positive that they’re not using the sales of UCS sets to determine how to price system scale sets that are 1/10th of the price or less.  They’re appealing to different markets.  People who are going to go out and put down $700-$800 on a UCS ship (which really equates to more like $1,000 if you buy in store due to taxes and the restocking fee that the brand stores charge on large items) are different consumers than those that are buying an $80 playset.  Sure, there’s some overlap between customers, but I seriously doubt that they’re jacking up prices on system sets due to those high priced UCS sets selling well.

You're conflating two separate things here. Sales of the 501st have nothing to do with whether or not Battle Packs appear in 2021. The 2021 sets were mapped out at least a year ago, long before the 501st set was known to people here, let alone reached shelves, etc.

And, it's not simply "doom and gloom rumors" behind the reports of no $15 battle packs next year — they're not listed on the 1H 2021 price list. This is a pretty reliable indicator of what is and isn't coming in the year to come. It's not definitive, as plans have been known to change, price lists to be inaccurate, etc., especially in the last year. But it's more substantiated than you're allowing.
