But they added about twenty parts, so it definitely constitutes a proper re-engineering of the bottom section of the set. You can get an idea of the changes from the Bricklink inventory; the pieces listed as 'alternate items' and flagged with #99 are the ones in the redesigned version. The instructions available from LEGO's customer service site are for the redesigned version, which caused me a great deal of consternation when I was trying to rebuild my set before I realized why I didn't have as many pieces as I needed. I don't know if there's a PDF of the original version instruction manual available anywhere--if you want one and can't find it, message me and I'll scan mine. That's very kind of you but i have my own very dogeared and torn up copy in my man cave. rebuilt the ship years ago to the floor plan of 75055, but I'll have a look at the mods out of curiosity. Sure they have more leg printing, but the torso print is inaccurate and just to cartoony. I really which LEGO would have made they the same style as the Utapau Battlepack. Then it would have been nice with the 212th and then the 501st to compleet the set. But LEGO seems to be against making movie accurate 501st troopers for some reason. I think they are definitely an improvement over the last 501st minifigures. Helmet: Previous one has a better "mouth", but the new one has a better visor. Blue strip is more or less the same on both. New one has better details like grey printing on "cheeks" or black line over forehead. Torso: The last one has a better chest printing (thinner blue line), but the new one has better belt printing. Current one has also MUCH more accurate arms, as only a small part of 501st' arms is blue (dual-molding would be preferred, but if they had to choose one, they chose the correct colour for the new version). Legs: Leg printing is superior on the new version. Knee pads are definitely not again as on the previous version. New one has foot printing, old one doesn't. The main difference - that horribly-looking black shoulder piece. When comparing it to the original (movie) suit, it doesn't even have a little black on the hips. There's only black under the costume, which new leg printing represents well (with those 2 black marks beyond the hips). The new one also has more accurate and detailed back printing. I compared those using both 501st minifigures and images of the original suit design, and apart from chest and mouth printing, every single part of the new version looks better. Quote

I do wish they'd be consistent about the printing, but I find myself preferring the simpler cartoony printing. I think it trips my nostalgia. I am not a fan of overly detailed torso printing, I think they had the right balance around 2010-2012. Quote
Terrasher Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 Better pics of Ponda and Evazan on Instagram. Ponda Baba's head is huge, but it looks great. I wonder whether we'll get more leaked minifigures soon. Quote
GalacticHippo Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 As I hoped, Evazan looks much better now that we can see his face printing. And that Aqualish head is very robust, but I like the details and colouring. Quote

BrickBob Studpants Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 They both look excellent! Tariq j Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 They look brilliant. Good double sided head as well. Quote
Robert8 Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 That legit looks like the guy has testicles on his face Quote

LurkingEhlek Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 Clearer pictures helped a lot with these two. I will also say that Ponda has always had a pretty goofy large head if you go for set accuracy, it is just that Kenner made the Walrus Man head smaller and that led other pre-Rouge One content to underestimating the size. Chill Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 (edited) The Ponda and Evazan figs look awesome. I don't understand any complaints about those. I'm really excited about a huge Cantina set. And I typically don't care about the non-vehicle sets (Except for Jabbas palace.) Edited August 12, 2020 by Chill Quote
storskogen Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 Evazan’s torso is disappointing. The quality of the skin tone printed on torsos (especially if on dark colors) is rather bad lately. Quote
azzer86 Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 (edited) My opinions have increased, both figs look better thanks to the clearer images. Ponda looks even better than before (and I liked the blurred photo). I think I still prefer my firestartoys Dr evazan, because it has a bit of nose print for the detail, and a small leg print. The torsos are pretty similar, but overall, Lego's official version is pretty good. My only criticism is as @storskogen points out, the poor skin coloured chest print. I don't mind it as much, just because Evazan's supposed to be so messed up already that a poor flesh tone print fits right in. Quote
Kit Figsto Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 Okay, I said before I’d reserve judgment on Ponda until we got better pics, the last one looked goofy to me but this one looks awesome. Definitely a little on the large side and I think the thing throwing me off is that most action figures have his tusks (or whatever that is) closer to his chin, so I’m used to that design even if it’s not accurate, but this actually looks fantastic. So far I’m still very much planning on getting this set! Quote
Balrogofmorgoth Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 Got two 501st sets at Target today in the US Quote
Kit Figsto Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 Hit my local Target here in the US. They had multiple IT-S sets out and space on the shelves for the other sets but none of them. They also had a ton of Mario and summer Harry Potter sets. Strangely, I saw someone trying to buy a HP set but were denied due to the street date being later in the month, so I'm not sure how the 501st or AAT or other new sets had been sold unless only that one specific cashier was enforcing it but others didn't care or weren't paying attention to it. Quote
Johnny1360 Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 Anytime I have found sets at Target out before release date, I always try to go through the self checkout so that doesn't happen. Unfortunately more often than not the register will scan it and you get a message saying, set not offered for sale yet. I assume the cashiers get the same message and have no control over whether to sell the set to you or not. Quote
Redroe Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 Convinced on Ponda Baba, he looks great. Now to break the sad news to my son he is getting no Christmas presents. Quote
wesker Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 I don't have any problems with the size of Ponda Baba's head piece. The whole figure looks great to me. Evazan's face print looks even better in these clearer pics. Even without a deformed nose they've still managed to perfectly capture the character's likeness with the design. Quote
CF Mitch Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 His deformed nose is there though, just not super noticable, perhaps due to the color printing. They look great indeed. Too bad about Evazan's pale skin on the torso, but I suppose that still can't really be helped Regards, Mitch Quote

Poor quality printing can definitely be helped. They managed it in 1999 and the fact they refuse to acknowledge how far they've regressed is really unfortunate. Quote

In fairness back in '99 would have been yellow rather than the flesh we have now I do agree though, it's especially bad with white print on darker pieces. Quote
