Hello!

I am interested in getting my first Pirate set! :pir-cry_happy:

I was wondering which would be a good set to get that is under 20$ for my first one.

I was considering getting King Kahuka's Throne. Would this be a good buy?

Thanks!

If you are interested in both pirates and islanders I would advise you to buy 6246 Crocodile Cage. It comes with one pirate, one islander, and one crocodile.

If you're planning to start an Islanders collection then King Kahuka's Throne is a marvelous choice!

Even though it's a small set it comes with 4 mini-figures which is quite generous.

It comes with 5 minifigs even :pir-wink:

I was going to suggest 6264 - Forbidden cove, but it may be slightly more expensive than 20$, and if you're going for minifigs, kahuka's throne is better.

It depends on what you're more interested... If it's islanders, "King Kahuka's Throne" is the choice, if it's imperials, "Broadside's Brig" as mr.Phred says, and if it's pirates thera are lovely mini-sets like "Buccaneers" or another one called "Pirate mini-figures" (I think...)

Anyway, any Lego Pirate set is good for me! LOL :pir-tongue:

As Bluebard says, it all depends on what you want.

Personally, I really love Broadside's Brig for it's simplicity, even bought it recently myself, but I had a fair number of sets before that. Still, it says a lot that it could impress me at this point.

If you really want a set, you have lots of options on Bricklink, or, better still in some ways, eBay. If you check the bottom of any pirates forum page, you'll see lots of eBay listings and some of them end quite affordably, even sets.

Alternately, you could build up some pirate minifigs instead, just picking up the more unique parts it would take to make some small structures on your own.

Best choice of all, though... get just enough to build your own Impulse, Small and Large entries for "A Pirate's Life!" and try to win some more! Sneaky, huh?

Very subtle. :pir-tongue:

I'm not sure which theme I am most interested in yet. I have never really had any of them so I don't know which I want first.

I guess I just have to keep buying more! Are the used sets on bricklink usually pretty good quality?

Thanks for all the help so far!

On Bricklink they usually mention the state of the set correctly, that's a big advantage.

But sets on Ebay and such can be a lot cheaper..

May i suggest Lagoon luck up as an excellent start set! :pir-sweet:

I'd suggest Enchanted Island; if you shop around for a while, you'll find one at $20, maybe a little over. I take it the $20 doesn't include postage? :pir-tongue:

lagoon lock-up looks great, but it's a bit expensive. For my first set I wanted to stay under or around $20. Eventually I wouldn't mind paying that much but I want to start small.

Would it be a good idea to maybe get Kahuka's Throne + Broadside's brig?

Edit: The 20$ does not include postage SlyOwl

The cheapest I saw EI for was 42$. Where can you get it cheaper?

I decided to get Kahuka's Throne!

I thought it would be a good choice for my first set since it comes with a lot of figs.

I'm so excited! :pir-cry_happy: I can't wait to start making my own pirate MOCs. If I like it which I'm sure I probably will, I will probably get Broadside's Brig for my next set.

Thanks for all the help guys! :pir-classic: Arrgh!

Congratulations Erdbeereis! This is a historic event!

Be sure to share pictures of the MOCs you create as we'd love to see them.

Definitely!

I bought a ship's hull off ebay so I might start making a ship soon. It will be a while before it's done though. I'll probably be posting here for advice soon enough! :pir-classic:

I might be able to squeeze in a small entry into the contest if I try hard enough.

Thanks again for the help!
