Hello everyone, I would like to get some suggestions for what I should buy to start with the power Functions area. I have bought a few sets and I mostly make some trucks or such, now I would like to start putting some motors to it, so what I should buy first and where?

Hi! What lego set you have? Bigger models are easier to motorised because there is space to hide them. I start with this kit and put it to lego set 8265 https://www.lego.com/en-fi/product/lego-power-functions-motor-set-8293 and if you want to make rc models, you need receiver and controller. There is also sbrick and buwizz to make rc models, but these are little expensive.

I have bought a few small kits but I don't build any standard thing. I was wondering what's the best place to buy it.

You might want to think about whether you want to buy power functions (which is the old and probably obsolete) set of electrical power components, or start with the new Powered Up, Boost etc set of electrical bits. Newer stuff a bit more expensive but can use your phone to control and has a future. Older stuff - lots around, need dedicated controller or third party parts like sbrick/buwizz for alternatives, but lots of existing models to give you ideas and possibly cheaper for the moment.

bricklink.com

Best way to start with PF Imo is the tracked racers (42065 or 42095) if you prefer a recent kit, or bricklink.com for spare motors, receivers, battery boxes, etc. Or if you need a servo and need a kit, buy a used 9398 - fantastic part selection to start with RC. Also a consideration would be a SBrick or Buwizz as they allow for more motors to be controlled, use Bluetooth technology instead of IR and the latter has an integrated rechargeable battery in a compact size.

PU could be considered but it's too soon to really get into it with all the available PF options and very limited PU counterparts as well as higher price. Note that PF might (most certainly will) stop official production next year. However the aftermarket is flooded with PF parts and it shouldn't be a problem at all, specially considering the existence of BuWizz and SBrick controllers.

If you don't have any motors yet buy only the latest.  Bonox is right. Some of us have a lot of the former stuff. Now we have to figure out how to use them in the future when they become obsolete. That will only take a couple of years.

PowerUP biggest issue at the moment is, that it has no custom profiles yet (hopefully ...)
