My method of building a creation starts with an Idea, sometimes a reference picture (or three!) and a gathering of parts which will include more than I need in the end, but will allow for "Oh! Shiny!" when building. If I was building a skyfi plane, for example, I would have more tail styles and engine looking parts than I would use in the end. I would go through my box of Aircraft parts and my box of Engine Parts, while also gathering basic slopes/panels/canopies from their places in the colour-scheme I have chosen. As the parts are set in front of me in a tray (I have project trays, gather all the parts, especially useful if I am working on more than one build or a planned series of MOCs) I do not have to go through lists on a screen to figure "what next" I can simply pick out a part and try it. Which in turn could spark another idea, or part to try if I don't like the look. Â

Or just recently: When I modded a 10-wide BR 89 regarding the drive train, adding PUp), I first assembled the original build in MLCad (up to the stage where no more changes to the original were required = the super structure) - and then made all the changes. This is more a re-engineering (or top down) rather than a creative bottom up process. MLCad, as said, never gets nervous when something is a bit off or the like When building something from scratch: Always in real bricks - endless variations - and then documentation with - well, MLCad. What helps in this regard (using stone old software), as @dr_spock has pointed out elsewhere, is being older than dirt ... Best, Thorsten Edited June 23, 20222 yr by Toastie stupid phrasing

He's the only reviewer I've seen call out obvious flaws, such as, weak arm printing on the Spiderman in the Daily Bugle set. Brickset, Jaybricks, and not a single other Lego Youtuber raised the issue. 18+ sets needs to actually utilize 18+ themes for once, i.e. Mad Max: Fury Road I agree with everything.  Its fun hobby, only when there is room and vitrine. Now I have shown in my room all build sets and its in endgame. There is no room to put any new sets or moc, without headaches. Jangbrick is not paid shill because he buys sets for himself. He can says whatever about these sets. If he lied, people will call him out.  Not only Mad Max but also Terminator, Robocop, Alien, Predator. They are circling around themes that can be sold also for kids. Only really mature sets are these about sexual minorities. Â
July 13, 20222 yr Lego is typical corporate company, that thinks they are superior in everything and nickel and dime their royal fans. More I read about lego policing of their rules, then I have no will to continue in buying set even playing with them
July 15, 20222 yr My unpopular opinion: The demise of LEGO (assuming it stays the course) will be a result of there being far too many specialized pieces in the parts catalog. LEGO used to be a building toy where you could build things that were suggestive of their realistic counterparts. Nowadays, there are so many specialized parts that it not only makes it easier to build anything, but to also make hyper realistic representations in LEGO. I mean, look at the sets available now and what all these specialized parts are able to achieve. Furthermore, it feels like if a designer want's to make something cool, LEGO could always just make a specialized part whenever needed. It feels like cheating. Can't achieve a certain angle? Well, if the set's budget is big enough, LEGO will just make a specialized part for it to achieve the angle. With that said, there are exceptions. I am totally OK with specialized canopy pieces. Recolors are no problem either. However, I prefer a black 4L bar representing the Dark Saber in Star Wars. But everyone is still pushing for a specialized weapon. I think some brick built weapons and accessories have lots of charm to them. LEGO is going to slowly lose its charm if it does not dial back making new molds. It should be more about imagination than hyper realistic models. Edited July 15, 20222 yr by Something_Awesome
July 15, 20222 yr Wizarding World is only good for vehicles and the Diagon Alley sets. Some City 4+ sets are actually good and perfect for my town - like the 2022 race car and farm sets.Â

They still have yet to come out with a quality Hogwarts Castle locomotive set. I'll agree with you that a number of the 4+ sets, especially the farm ones, are excellent for a town layout.
July 15, 20222 yr Not sure if popular or unpopular but: This is the best year for AFOLs in decades. Especially AFOLs my age who grew up in the 80's. We get: A Lamborghini Countach, arguably the most iconic car of the 80's A BttF Delorean, the other most iconic car from the 80's Freaking Optimus Prime An amazing Classic Space set For Space fans, quite a bit of other cool stuff. The City Space sets which are arguably Classic Space adjacent and much more Sci-Fi than before The Lightyear spaceship with new yellow windscreen (which the designer says is a back door Classic Space set) The Monkie Kid Moon Cake Factory which is just a goofier version of the original Alpha-1 Rocket Base The Monkie Kid Galactic Explorer if you're into gold spaceships The new Castle set!!! The new Forestmen set! A whole bunch of new animal molds in the farm set A new Viking set in the Creator line What am I forgetting? Â Edited July 15, 20222 yr by danth
July 15, 20222 yr Really don't like the new shade of yellow. Gives me a knock off vibe. Would rather Lego go back to the standard yellow.
July 15, 20222 yr Also, Bionicle fans kinda got screwed. And I say that as someone who doesn't care about Bionicle at all. Maybe there is a yet to be revealed 90th Anniversary set for them?

The "Bionicle" figure in the same set is not exactly a kick-in-the-teeth, but not really as good. Honestly the lack of Bionicle parts is probably a big part of why it didn't get a "full" tribute set this year. As much as I personally would be pretty pleased with a System-based tribute set, I think there's quite a lot of Bionicle fans for whom something like that would lack the essence of what made the theme appeal to them in the first place. So going ahead with something like that might just have been doomed to disappoint a large number of those who voted for the theme. As burnt out as I feel by the chilly reception to the last Bionicle reboot, I wouldn't be surprised if Lego might still take note of the overwhelming turnout by Bionicle fans for that poll and already have something for Bionicle fans in the works. But even if they do try to come up with something, it might take more than a year of development to truly do the theme justice. So maybe we'll see something in the next few years. If nothing else, 2026 will be Bionicle's 25th anniversary—a full quarter century!
July 16, 20222 yr Yes, I don't think there would be a great reception for a system parts figure from the hardcore who went out and voted for Bionicle. Or even some other form of tribute set that is not a 100% constraction figure in CCB. (I think a mosaic of the classic relic-like mask and island logo would be awesome but not sure how much traction that would get). Thinking back, it was Bionicle MOCs I first shared online on the very ancient LEGO.com personal page I had.

I plan to only get the Galaxy Explorer and Lightyear ship, but the city space sets are great in their own right too.

If they hadn't made any new parts since 1980 or 2000 or whenever you want to set a threshold, I doubt it would be anywhere bear as popular now. A bigger issue for me now is colours. I think we have enough in some parts of the spectrum but not enough in others. And the huge range in colours means we don't get most useful parts (especially bricks) easily available in most colours. Yeah...I was wondering if there were enough "Bionicle-like" parts still used in themes like Ninjago that could be used with technic and system parts to make something reasonably close to the original Bionicle sets. But after a cursory check of parts being used in 2022, I don't think there are enough Bionicle/Constraction style parts in production. And I think you're probably right about something like that disappointing Bionicle fans.
July 17, 20222 yr Which is actually pretty sad, as some of the Mecha from Ninjago look fantastic and a Bionicle in that style would look pretty cool.
July 20, 20222 yr I don’t know if it’s an unpopular opinion but i will say it anyways. I love 90th anniveary sets’ minifigure design. But I don’t like their faces. Why, you may ask?  Lion Knights’ Castle and Forest Hideout sets have minifigures with nomral face prints while Galaxy explorer minifiugres have plain, genderless smiley faces. It’s a widerd feeling to see Classic Space astronauts next to Lion Knights if they are for 90th annivesary. Solution? Replace astronauts ‘ smiley faces with modern face prints. It will work for me. Peace out.Â

Previous classic space recreations like Benny's space squad also used the classic heads. The good thing is that it is simple to go all smiley, all modern, and even all fleshie for most of the anniversary figures. I think one peasant has yellow on the torso, but other than that the parts are multi use.
July 21, 20222 yr Here's something pretty specific. Most Vic Vipers are ugly. I'm tired of that format completely. Having a whole month just for that format is overkill. Bonus related and even more specific opinion; the Unitron Starhawk II is super ugly!

Bonus related and even more specific opinion; the Unitron Starhawk II is super ugly! I'll agree the Vipers do get ugly and repetitive. Seeing one or two now and then is cool, but sooo many at once is "overkill". The Starhawk II may be ugly, but I looked at it as a parts pack with promise before recognizing it was a real set. Yeah, UGLY!
July 22, 20222 yr Another unpopular opinion; Lego City is currently in another golden age. Ok, so the sets may be a bit pricey. But that's just a small price we have to pay (pun partially intended) in order to get good sets that are loveable. Dare I say it here, but City now in the 2020s is waaaaaayyyyyy better than the way it was back during the 2010s, especially the late 2010s as there was barely any diversity. It was too much oversaturation of police and science based sets to where unless you looked close enough, you would barely notice any other jobs out there. At least now, you have hope because the job market in Lego City is now so high that my bank account is at its lowest! LOLÂ
