November 11, 20204 yr Author Below is a possible solution to make this gearbox in a studless construction: The orange 36-tooth gears need to be replaced by 28-tooth gears and the dark bluish gray driving ring should be the newer 3L version. The 24-tooth gear at the bottom and at the right, the 12-tooth gear at the bottom and the 20-tooth gear at the right provide possibilities to go back in the studless grid. Or universal joints can be used to go from the axle through the 1 x 1 technic bricks back to the studless grid.
June 21, 2024Jun 21 Came to this late, very late… And came by way of google search. I was already done with something similar but optimized for GBC rates 60/80//120. https://reb.li/m/180337 I also have a couple other similar 4 speed gearboxes that maybe useful.
July 18, 2024Jul 18 Author Thanks to the new 12 tooth clutch gear, the above idea can be modified to an 8 speed gearbox. There are only 3 axles for the drivetrain. In the video, one 12 tooth gear with clutch is missing. gear 1: (12/24)*(16/28)=0.28... gear 2: (12/24)*(20/24)=0.41... gear 3: (16/20)*(16/28)=0.45... gear 4: (16/20)*(20/24)=0.66... gear 5: (20/16)*(16/28)=0.71... gear 6: (20/16)*(20/24)=1.04... gear 7: (24/12)*(16/28)=1.14... gear 8: (24/12)*(20/24)=1.66...
