CSW652 Posted October 13, 2019 Posted October 13, 2019 Just finished converting one of my Santa Fe locomotives to Powered up and am thinking of building / converting the Lone Ranger train next. Planning on building the locomotive, tender and then pairing it up to a couple #10015 sets. I was wondering if anyone had converted the tender to hold the PUp battery and if so maybe show some pictures? Also looks like it needs connecting rods. Quote
zephyr1934 Posted October 13, 2019 Posted October 13, 2019 You would have to greatly enlarge the tender to hide the battery box, so you might be better off motorizing the first car behind the engine. I googled "powering Lego 79111" and got this hit. 21 minutes ago, CSW652 said: Also looks like it needs connecting rods. See here, but it also works with standard technic beams. Quote
CSW652 Posted October 13, 2019 Author Posted October 13, 2019 I wasn't planning on keeping the other train cars, just the engine and the redesigned tender. Quote
dr_spock Posted October 13, 2019 Posted October 13, 2019 I put PUP in a similar sized tender and the PUP train motor underneath. The hub sticks up in the 79111 styled tender. The sides would need to be at least a brick higher to hide the hub like this tender with the hub mostly hidden: Quote
CSW652 Posted October 13, 2019 Author Posted October 13, 2019 (edited) I figured it would have to be completely redesigned, longer and higher, but was looking at the Disney tender, which looks to be 6/7ish wide to me. I don't have the Disney set, so not sure though. Just looking for ideas. Edited October 13, 2019 by CSW652 Quote
CSW652 Posted October 13, 2019 Author Posted October 13, 2019 (edited) I'm thinking the Disney tender would be about the same width as the Lone Ranger locomotive. Maybe lose the cheese wedges, make it dark green and black, and mount the Constitution plates on the side. Make kind of a cross between the two tenders. Edited October 13, 2019 by CSW652 Quote
zephyr1934 Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 Disney tender is a good call, without the tile it can be kept to 6 wide. You can download the instructions from lego customer service. Use headlight bricks to set the tile in a bit, or use brackets across the top of the battery box, then a plate, then tiles to keep it six wide without the "constitution" tile sticking out at all. CSW652 Posted October 16, 2019 Author Posted October 16, 2019 (edited) So I looked at the Disney Tender instructions and think I can do a cross between the Constitution & Disney tenders, but not sure how to hide the power cord a bit better. Also it doesn't appear that the headlight bricks come in Dark Green, which I find odd. Neither do the 1x2x2 panels. Edited October 16, 2019 by CSW652 Quote
Carefree_Dude Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 If you used black headlight bricks, it would just look like part of the tile. Quote
Randolph Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Think there are 2 different approaches to this; both interesting: Standard: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-6201/supertruper1988/79111-m-motor-power/#comments Motorized Caboose: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-2047/deafpilotboy/moc-motorized-caboose-for-lone-ranger-constitution-train/#comments Quote
CSW652 Posted October 25, 2019 Author Posted October 25, 2019 I still think it can be done in the tender and look just as nice as the Disney one. Waiting on a few pieces and then I can start building. Have to decide if I want the handrails on the side or not though. Quote
CSW652 Posted August 4, 2020 Author Posted August 4, 2020 Does anyone know if the side rods from the new crocodile will fit with the 3 wheel set up on the Lone Ranger locomotive? https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=32293&idColor=11#T=C&C=11 Quote

It has the same length as a 1x9L technic beam. You won't be able to connect the center blind driver to it though. Quote
