I accidentally posted this in the 2019 thread so I'll repost it here:

Some cool Dots pieces have been revealed that have the space ship from the Classic Space logo.

Extra-DOTS-Series-2-41916-2.jpg

Pair some of these with those Batman canopies and the new Orange spaceman!

I'm trying to figure out if that canopy is the 4-stud wide or 6 wide. I hope 4, but I think it's the 6.

The bubble canopy looks like the 6 wide. FWIW the 4 wide was already released trans yellow in the Atlantis (?) theme. Or do you mean the angular windshield? That looks like an 8 wide in trans yellow which is pretty exciting!

Oh, also, the Monkie Kid sets have some nice colored windscreens. Either trans orange or trans neon-orange, I can't tell. But either way we get Space MOC fodder, either Ice Planet or Mars Mission.

Hopefully these are alright to share here, but @promobricks has posted some low-res box art images of the three upcoming Batman sets for this summer, and I wanna say that the largest isn't the only one to come with new Trans-Yellow canopy recolors... :oh: ...so 76160 appears to have recolors of 35379 and 42504, while 76159 might have an unprinted Trans-Yellow recolor of 91140

I would love that, but it looks trans-clear or trans-black to me. Always hard to tell from pics. Hope you're right and I'm wrong!

Well, there is a more likely chance I'm wrong, as a leaked 360-view of the set clearly shows it has a Trans-Black canopy instead, though to me the 360 has something of an unfinished, preliminary quality about it? :def_shrug: *

Eh, it must be wishful thinking on my part perhaps.

Ninjago Fire Stone mech has a trans-orange windscreen on it's chest of similar shape.

Speaking of wishful thinking, I'm hoping that windscreen ends up being trans-neon-orange to enable more Ice Planet MOCs. We've gotten quite a few windscreens in Ice Planet colors out of Nexo Knights, but in weirdish shapes.

Sure enough, it is just Trans-Black... :sceptic: ...on the other hand, we've also got clearer pics of the other set that does have Trans-Yellow recolors!

I'd prefer Neon-Orange as well, I got mostly Nexo Knight parts so I can make some spaceships at some point when I decide to MOC them.

Of course, I realize the shape won't be the same as the original theme, as they don't make the old school shape anymore.

I didn't have many Ice Planet sets but back in the 90s, I did have an Aquasharks submarine I used those 2 windscreens (neon orange with a sharkface and opaque black) all the time in MOCs , combined with Classic Space parts from sets like 928.

Batman has become a boon to the Classic Blacktron builders.

And Classic Space builders...  ...but yeah, I suppose all the Black these sets offer make them more worthwhile for Blacktron builds.

The Demon Bull King from Monkie Kid has at least three of these canopies in Trans-Neon Orange.

Clear pic of the minifig from Space Rover Explorer from Promobricks. The Classic Space logo looks very nice:

Thanks for posting the high-def photo of the box.  The torso printing overall looks great.

I am wondering where this set might fit in the history/timeline of Lego space sets.  To me, the rover and astronaut look slightly more technologically advanced than the "City Space" sets, which have a different style of planet/orbit logo, but they are closer in style to "City Space" vehicles than Classic Space and Futuron, despite the astronaut having a Classic Space logo.  It makes me wonder if this set represents a time between "City Space" and the time where Classic Space exists.

The colors and the face print look a lot like those in set 10191 "Star Justice" from 2008.  That was built by an AFOL in the then-current "Pre-Classic Space" AFOL quasi-theme/trend.  The basic idea for "Pre-Classic Space" was to build chunkier, clunkier spaceships and rovers in white and light gray to suggest the spacecraft that the Classic Space ships were developed from.  So you're not wrong about the Creator 3-in-1 Space Rover Explorer possibly representing a time between City Space and Classic Space.

I'd put this very shortly after City Space, actually.  I think of the 2019 City rover as like Mark Watney's rover from the movie version of The Martian; this reminds me of his rover from the book version.  So pretty darn close in any hypothetical Lego space timeline.  But then there's the weirdo from another planet - maybe Watney just never saw it?

I'd forgotten about Star Justice.  That would make sense.  Star Justice is one of those big sets I kind of wish I'd bought.  I remember seeing it in a LEGO store and being reminded of Classic Space.

I'd put it somewhere before Mars Mission, or at least Life On Mars.

Agreed that this looks like it's from before "Mars Mission".  The Mars Mission stuff looks very futuristic, more so than "Life on Mars".   Life on Mars vehicles and ships don't look too far ahead of today's City Space, so my guess is that the 2020 Rover is from somewhere near that era.  Mars Mission vehicles are also obviously militarized, which the 2020 Rover is not.

Yeah, this is certainly shortly after City Space.

The City Space Rover is actually called Rover Testing Drive and on the box it shows the City behind it so it's still on earth.

The City Space Shuttle is actually on a mission at Mars , but I think at the time of 2019 City Space, they likely were planning to be able to launch heavier cargo like Rovers to the Moon and Mars (via the larger cargo rockets in those 2 large sets).

This Creator Rover is a step upwards, it's larger and heavier, and we don't know if this is even on Mars.

I put Mars Mission before Life On Mars. The MM minifig designs are closer to the current set's fig. You're right about MM being more military in design. LOM is more the follow-up civilian science, who's smallest minifig sets are somewhat precursors to the Ice Planet 2002 and Exploriens small sets. The Marians' sets in LOM could be seen as tech the minifigs learn from.

The Classic Space retro futurism can be seen as putting a friendlier face on the various military operations in space, while Mars becomes more settled, and technology there changes with LOM. Technology evolves with Futuron, but the retro aesthetic remains. Later on the various divisions abandon the retro look for something more functional. At some point the UFOs invade, then the Insectoids. All culminating with the technology of Space Police III.

I put this set at about the same time as, or just before, Alien Conquest, which would then make the militaristic Mars Mission make sense.

Putting this here since we don't have a 2021 thread.

I just looked it up, and 2 previously unknown sets are apparently "Space Mining Mech" and "Safari Wildlife House" , listed as March release.

Could this be a CLASSIC. THEMED. CREATOR. SET???

Well, it definitely sounds like it's gonna be a SCI-FI SPACE creator set, and fully Sci-Fi, unlike Space Rover Explorer which is a weird mish-mash of NASA-style realism, a bit of Sci-Fi (tiny green alien and Vic Viper C model), a Classic Space logo on the astronaut, and motor home stripes. That set is truly schizophrenic.

But this is a MECH. So any kind of NASA-style realism is out the window. This is Sci-Fi for sure. So, awesome!

My only two questions are,

  1. will it use one of the amazing, existing color schemes from LEGO Space sub-theme history, like M-Tron, with some appropriate logos?
  2. if not, will it have exciting colors, like trans-purple windscreens or something, or boring colors like Space Rover Explorer?

Regardless, I'm excited. LEGO seems to be pushing the Creator Sci Fi Space set envelope here.

Classic theme will have a set that might be of use to Sci-Fi as well :

11013 Creative Transparent Bricks , probably around 350-450 pieces based on the price.

Certainly hope it'll have some of the brighter neon colors, and trans-yellow as well.

In october a new book about minifigures will be released. LEGO Minifigure A Visual History New Edition comes with an exclusive minifigure: an orange classic spaceman.

As the book is pretty expensive, could there be any other way to obtain more of those spacemen?
