Hi,

Lately, I have been trying to figure out how to build a 1:22 scale truck (using the same tires as the Mack Anthem set) in the European configuration, meaning that the engine and the steering mechanism have to be under the cabin. I think I succeeded. There is an inline 6 engine, and the steering uses levers as in the 42078 set. The steering HOG will be linked to the cabin by using a CV-joint. The movement is inverted, but I plan to put a 8:24 reduction in the cabin. The steering wheel can also be connected using the same mechanism as in @Void_S Mack F700.

At this stage, I think I am going to reproduce a VOLVO FH16 750:

Here are the pics (sorry for the messy background!):

The DBG axle joiner shows the axle which will connect to the cabin.

I am not happy at all about how the cabin is going. I think it lacks some fluidity, even though I tried to replicate the specific wheel arch...

At the very beginning, this truck wasn't meant to be a Volvo but a Scania. As some of you certainly know, I love Scania . I just had issues figuring out how to build the front bumper... Here is the cleanest version:

That's all for now! Any comments and ideas are very welcome.

So far it looks nice; I think it is a good idea to use similar solution like @Void_S (with his cabover Mack F700 version) for steering...

Bravo, it looks really great and easy to catch the main EU trucks shapes and proportions. Another great use of the "linked steering wheel"

And another great 15-wide (Mack-scale) truck is coming, looks amazing!

I just noticed, havent You considered those narrower tires? Then at back also You could have double tires, now it doesn't seem, that You will fit them.

I am doing the same exact truck in the same scale! Good job!

I usually don't post work in progress pictures, but if you like I can add some photos of my model here.

Thanks guys!

The engine should be covered when the cab is lowered.

I don't understand what you are meaning.. The cab will sit on the engine when lowered. Or did you refer to some paneling so that we can't see the engine revving from the cab? In this case, I don't know if I will hide it because it is hardly visible from the outside ...

Don't be too optimistic my friend! I tend to develop concepts but not to finish them... Talking about this, I think I will open a thread when I could show some concepts.

Narrower tires would be great but do they exist in this size (49.5mm)? I didn't find any on Google...

Please, do it :classic:

Depending on how far you are in the development process, I think we could reunite the best parts of the two MOCs! On even better, collaborate!

Regarding the WIP, I don't know yet which axle configuration to adopt. I am really thinking about making the entire thing modular. The steering mechanism allows connecting one or more steering axles.

I highly upvote for the modular design!  Working on the Anthem's modifications (I haven't published all of them) I keep following the main rule to have all of them compatible with each other. So now each 4x2, 6x4, 6x2, 8x6 combination is possible without any limitations.

Well I am in the very first stage, I'm using only parts from the 42078. Here is the first sketch of the front part.

It should be an 8x4 but I change my mind every day!

Oh yes, they (tires) has smaller outer diameter, then the scale will be different.

@mpj, your version being at the very first stage, it definitely looks better than mine!

I especially love the grill area, where the holes in the beams match the look of the real thing. and you have a proper footstep (even though to have this, the bumper has to be 1 stud deeper than it should be.

Did you consider the way you will tilt the cabin? Because part of my ugly grill is due to the same linkage as in the 42078, and the remote steering...

WOW, I am building something similar just in ~1:17... One of my biggest issues is the cool front lights. I am looking forward to the whole truck.

My cab is not tilting and there is no fake engine inside, but I could add this feature later.

But I don't think your grille is ugly… I like it very much instead! The front of your model is very realistic in my opinion.

1:17 is also my scale, and I suppose to build this 1:22 Volvo just for fun, and then resize everything bigger!

It is not all! I especially like it's "open" design with visible gears inside, it looks very "technic-old-school" and makes the perfect combination of the inner pure-techinc design "functions over shape" and beautiful outer scale-model-like shaping.

@grego18f, if possible, please keep it

Please don't pay attention to the tandem axles, because they are from the Anthem...

Now optimizing the part use :classic:

I prefered your previous doors

Actually, the poor quality photo doesn't make justice to the MOC...   That's better now

I am pretty happy about the result though, especially the door. In my opinion, the new design is much slicker (not a plate and slope stack), the transition is better, it has a correct mudguard shape, it is more Technic-ish and uses fewer parts. But this a matter of taste :classic:

It is sunny today (even being cold) so I will try to take better photos. Done

About the equipment, what would you prefer? Logging, knuckle crane, ...?

Wow! Looks really awesome

Interesting to see the familiar solutions I have tried to make for my COE version but made in a different manner (and I would say more compact, like it should be for EU trucks, where the dimensions are so critical limitations).

Would you mind if I share with you Anthem-compatible rear part for 4x2 trucks? I have prepared it for the further use in 42T 4x2 "light" modification of Anthem and for Granite "MHD Baby-8" mod (it's very draft to be published yet, so you may google for it so far): Truck Modular MOD - RF - 180'' 4x2 Short Frame Tractor.io. It also fully compatible with Anthem's side skirts that after some minor modifications may greatly fit here to have a finished aero appearance.

Thank you @Void_S !

Indeed, compactness was a critical feature to make this project alive...

Your rear axle is very much appreciated, even though I don't think it will be a "simple" tractor unit... I don't really know yet which configuration to adopt but I want to have a playable model :classic:

I am looking forward to seeing your Granite MHD! Will it be the axle forward Granite as the ones I see on Google Images?

Please, display a message "Are you sure you've written everything?" before publishing :D

Very recognizable Volvo FH!

The progress on my model is very slow instead :hmpf:
