In the first year of its US release in Christmas 1979 I received my first Lego minifig set - the Classic Space LL924. Thank you, Mom and Dad!

For the 40th Anniversary celebration of this great ship, which fired up my imagination for decades to come - I recreated a re-imagined version using contemporary parts and techniques.

Both of the antenna on either side of the wings extend up, and the attached sensor/camera has a full 360 degree swivel.  They move parallel to the wings for storage and a more streamlined profile when not in use.

The back hatch opens, in keeping with the LL 924 tradition, and a small flying scout ship unfolds for additional exploration.

A well executed new interpretation. My first reaction to seeing them side by side was how much more balanced and sleek your version looks like - and of course so much more detailed, but back in the day a 400 piece set was already really big and expensive! But really, your project shows how far Lego bricks got since. :classic:

Quite the unique redesign!  Are those circular "cut-outs" in the wings supposed to be some sorta VTOL turbines? :shrug_oh_well:

Very cool,...and clever in the imaginings of evolutionary design for the Classic Space theme.

As good as it,..and its great, Id love to see something like that applied to the Galaxy Explorer.

Yes! Or at least, a sci-fi version of contemporary VTOL turbines. Perhaps a thrust reactor field-space or a bi-directional repulsor-lift apparatus.

The concept I was going for there was to build something similar to reality, but different enough where the user's imagination can fill in the rest of the details.
