Oky Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Idk if any of you have house maids / cleaners clean up your place, but I do. If you don't, you are lucky, 'cause they can really mess up your MOCs & sets on display! Want proof? This is exactly how designer set 4404 looked like after my cleaners left last time: Pretty bad, huh? Look at the poor driver they left below the truck to support it! Luckily, this is an old set and nothing new or anything I made, but still... Do you have any similar stories to tell? Careless Cleaners OFF! Quote
Hinckley Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Yes yes yes yes yes! We used to use a cleaning lady before we both started working from home and every time she'd clean, I'd come home to nicely dusted UCS Star Wars ships, stacked neatly in portions of their original selves. I tried to tell her several times just not to dust them, but she didn't have the best grasp on English, so she would nod emphatically and then there would be a pile of nicely dusted UCS Star Wars ships, stacked neatly in portions of their original selves again the following week. At one point, she told me very excitedly "I've taking English classes!" and I pointed to the shelves and said "Please don't dust these." Quote
iamded Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 It's just so brutal how they've supported the car with the person! It's like the car's been in a terrible accident and mangled the poor fellow! And Hinckley, when you say stacked, do you mean, like, the ships were stacked on top of each other? Wouldn't they break? ~Peace Quote

BlueBard Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 HA HA HA HA I perfectly remember that terrible fear coming back from school and hoping not to find my poor lego completely destroyed, as usually... Quote
maiq the liar Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 :O Carnage! Luckily our maids are gentle. they leave my lego alone, not that it gets dusty alot (save some stuff on shelves in my room.) Quote
Brickmaster Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 (edited) We're too poor for maids and such; the only person to blame here for moc explosions would be, me. I can just imagine though, they must feel atleast somewhat awful, just seeing the creation fall in slow motion and explode into parts. Edited May 7, 2008 by Brickmaster Quote
filefolders Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 A little of mine has been vacuumed but it was my fault for not getting it out from under the bed, only three or four pieces though. OH! Our cleaning lady knocked my wobbly UCS AT-ST off of its wobbly shelf once. It was on the highest shelf. I had fun re-building it though. Quote
MoonCheese Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 I've never lived anywhere where people come and clean. I just grew up with the expectation that whoever lives in a house or apartment cleans it themselves... Quote
Stauder Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 (edited) Years ago, we had a maid, this was before I started to diplay my lego, but I had a collection of model aircraft, most of which have no langing gear now... Better off to clean it yourself... Lady Hodd, the deamon Maid of Pleet street. Ah.. That would be a film... Stauder. Edited May 7, 2008 by Stauder Quote
Axle Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Oh, Hell yes! Mostly, I have a load of unfinished films because our old maid used to move the set piece back to my room and throw them into a box.... Don't ask about the time she moved the BSB.... Quote
Clonecommando007 Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 I had a Black Tophat sitting in my room ready to place on my Abraham Lincoln in a Vignette for a contest. After returning to my room, I found the area where the tophat had resided had been dusted clean, and to this day I still not have found the black tophat. I was not able to enter my vignette. Quote
LuxorV Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Since I have always had to clean my room by myself, my LEGO has been spared that experience. Except for when somebody wants to see a MOC or set in too deep deatail (like taking it a bit apart to see how it's been made ), I never had such problems . LuxorV Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Well here it's not the cleaning lady, but my friends that ''by accident'' demolish my MOCs... They can't keep their hands off, and i always find myself putting back on small parts...or having to look under the couch for them... I'm planning a minefield and some barbed wire around them for my next project Quote

I'm planning a minefield and some barbed wire around them for my next project That's why I built walls and installed a lockable door for my project room. Those who have have worked with me on graphic projects know that I can be quite a control freak and I couldn't stand when we'd have friends over and they would do something small even, like put a minifig on the roof of one of my buildings. Let alone the buildings that were just missing chunks... What's funny is when AFOLs come over to play, I don't mind it. When Ras and Copmike left I had Vikings pillaging Bazooville and I thought it was cool. I think I just trust AFOLs not to destroy anything...well, I trust Copmike... that Ras, though-my minifigs are still traumatized Quote
Derek Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 You poor people with your cleaning ladies! Honestly, as horrible as this may be, there, surprisingly, are, worse things that can happen. And worse things you could have at your house other than cleaning women. Dp8 (Oh and Oky Wan, that's a pretty funny picture of that guy crushed under his destructed Lego car! ) Quote
Hinckley Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Honestly, as horrible as this may be, there, surprisingly, are, worse things that can happen. And worse things you could have at your house other than cleaning women. I don't remember anyone saying it was the worst thing that could happen. Don't make me pull out my story about the lion that got loose in my house and ate my foot. BTW, to put a word in italics the tags have to go around the word. So instead of: be, there, surprisingly, are, worse things use: be, there, surprisingly are worse things and the commas aren't necessary and don't forget to add spaces... Quote
CopMike Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Maid ? We were poor, so poor we lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t' mill, 14 hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep wi' his belt . (Monty Python's Flying Circus-"Four Yorkshiremen") No, seriously the closest to wrecking my LEGO is when I had a worker plastering & painting the roof in the hall in my apartment about ½ year ago. He should do it during a week when I was away for work. There´s two doors out of the room to the rest of the apartment. He was supposed to seal them with a plastic cover & ductape. Did he? No!! There was dust from when he sandpapered the plaster all over the apartment! The computer, all my LEGO, the funiture ..... ! I cleaned it up myself for a big pile of $$$. What's funny is when AFOLs come over to play, I don't mind it. When Ras and Copmike left I had Vikings pillaging Bazooville and I thought it was cool. That reminds me of an event! Our house was getting painted (inside) and they used a sort of spray type method... Anyway, the result was white dust all over my pieces in the open, it still, although it can be removed easily, remains on them. In another event, a glob of white paint got on one of those LEGO boat hulls (the largest one I believe) . Quote
Hinckley Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Maid ? Enough, sheesh. It's not like I'm saying we had a team of live-in maids. We had a woman come to the house every two weeks to clean. It cost maybe $40... Stop making me feel like a snob... I know what you mean Hinckley! Everytime Ras is at my place something gets pick into pieces (AT-AT-sounds familier?) ! I just recently found where he put my sig-fig being violated by an elephant... Quote
zero1312 Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 (edited) We don't have maid either, but my mother ALWAYS smashed something during cleaning! Edited May 7, 2008 by zero1312 Quote
Dark Sword Ragnarok Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 At least your mother cleans for you! My mom makes me clean by myself, and that's usually when my stuff falls on the floor and explodes. Thats usually when I build a new MOC. Quote
Corvus Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 My lego hasn't been dusted in...well, a long time. Let's just say that it has it's own distinct eras. This layer is from when it was here, this one, from when it sat under the table et cetera, et cetera. I don't ask my mom to clean them up for me, since I have my 'system', *cough*, and when she does decide to clean up for me, she usually wears shoes. Lego on floor vs. shoe= big pile of bricks. Quote

(Monty Python's Flying Circus-"Four Yorkshiremen") Nothing about uphill both ways barefoot in the snow? My family was like middle-class, but a lot of times they basically lived like they were poor (like this sometimes). My dad's extremely stingy. We lived in a poor redneck area in the Thumb of Michigan for 8 years and I was so glad to leave when I was 18. Quote
5150 Lego Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 pobbly around 10 years ago, in my last house i had some sets up on some book shelfs. My parents had some people come in to clean the vents in every room. Well, the book shelf with all my legos sets was right by the vent and they needed to moveit to get there machine in. Yup, you guessed it. They knocked over the shelf with all my lego, and some plasctic models i had built as well. They gave my parents 50% off the service, and i spent the next week putting my sets back together. Quote
