Dragonator Posted May 10, 2008 Author Posted May 10, 2008 I saw this a couple of days ago, but haven't had the time to reply! So here we go.This is a great MOC mate, and even though I saw it when it was half built, it still amazes me! The tavern is great, darn awesome actually, I love the tan colour scheme with the black support beam things. The cliff face is awesome, great job using all those bricks to their full potential! The bridge is also very cool, I love the lion head details on the side, and those 2x2 sloped slope pieces on the crenelations. The minifig placement is also very cool, complimenting the awesome build with a fantastic action scene! You gotta love those trolls. Well, you've done a great job here, and I'm lookin' forward to seeing the next MOC you create! ~Peace Thanks for commenting, I was hoping you would. I'm glad you like it, it certainly is very different to when you first saw it (as a note to everyone else, the only thing actually built was the tower and some of the rock wall). I'm glad everyone likes the tan colour scheme, I had a lot of trouble trying to find a colour that would look nice. Glad to hear that it has gone down well. Well you have inspired me to empty my wallet to buy as much light and dark bley i could afford, and some snot river stuff too, so stay tuned, once my BL order comes in its time to get creating. I only hope i dont end up just copying all your cool bits Great, I can't wait to see what you come up with! That is the great thing about this community, it helps us to spend our money! Brilliant work, dragonator! All of that SNOT is great! The facades on the bridge and tower look great, as is the very nice cliffside. I absolutely love the tavern - as always, I love the brick technique , and the very nice contrasting colour scheme on it is very effective. The roof is nice, the shape looks great. I really like the outside too - the neat rows of trees and the checkered stone floor make the city look very tidy and upper-class. Finally, the minifigure arrangement is great. I love the inclusion of civilians and their antics. One thing I'm not sure about is how the Crownies on the bridge ended up there - they are surrounded on both sides by Orcs, and the Orcs surrounded on both sides by Crownies A fantastic MOC dragonator, you should be very pleased Thanks TinyPiesRUs, glad you enjoy it. You've caught on to the upper-class theme, and yes that was what I had in mind so I'm glad you noticed. The minifig placement took me almost an hour to do, so I'm glad you think it looks good. I really need to get some 1x2 modified tiles with the single studs so that I can actually attach them. Oh yes, there is a reason they're cut off. You see, the crownies are in control of the tower, while the trolls/orcs attacked from the tavern side of the bridge (they had entered the city from another place). A couple of headstrong men charged out of the tower to battle the trolls on the bridge, who promptly went past them and tried to get through the open doors. The crown soldiers now found themselves surrounded by trolls. Meanwhile, re-enforcements were arriving from the other end of town, so now there were crownies on both sides of the trolls too. Battles can be so confusing. Is that explaination enough for you? As a note to everyone, I am going to start setting up and taking pictures of the set-up for the EB RP scene this features in. I will post a couple of pics in this thread and a link to the gallery, but I would suggest you all go over and read the accompanying story if you have the time. -ator Quote
Siegfried Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Mate, this is a really great MOC for someone fairly new to the business. I'll be keeping an eye out for your future work. One thing that surprises me is that while you have used some of the larger castle pieces, yet it all fits in so well. I've tried to make castles in the past but they always seem to look like they were made by a 10 year old.. I love it. How long will it stay together? Quote

I'm going to keep it together as long as possible, but sadly it will have to be taken apart some time soon so I can build something new, as I don't have an extensive supply of parts (other than bricklink, and what with the exchange rate dropping a bit more here, it makes it even more expensive to buy ). I've still got the second scene to set up and photograph, and then we'll see. It will probably be lovingly torn-down at the end of the month... Quote
Dragonator Posted May 25, 2008 Author Posted May 25, 2008 In a shameless act of double posting I thought a nice little update was due. The results have come back for the NZ National Lego Builders competition, and I won my stores section (yay, $50 worth of Lego for me! ). No trip to California though, a castle entry from somewhere else won that... Ah well, there's always next year... Anyway, this will be kept together for a few more weeks now, as the store owner has asked to display it in his store! I was really happy and so of course said yes. So now I need to take the pictures for the EB RP before I go set it up in the store next weekend, as well as picking up my prize. If anyone visits the Toyworld at Coastlands on the Kapiti Coast, then be sure to drop by and have a look, it is much better seen in person than in my crappy photographs. I'll have new pictures in the EB RP thread hopefully by tomorrow, so until then, enjoy! I'll make sure I take some pictures of it in the store. Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 Congratulations dragonator! I may try to get there next week Quote

WhiteFang Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 Fanatistic! Great job, Dragonator! Guess, there will be more LEGO for you. Quote
Dovchenko Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 I really, really like the MOC. Lots of humour used here, and at the same time, it stays with the castle theme and is extremely well designed and built. However, as a quick addition if you want, the cliffs look pretty smooth. Maybe some more plants would help it out. Otherwise, 10/10! Quote

The cliffs might look better with a bit more plant-life, I may try that when I next do some landscaping (which wont be for a wee while, I would need these bricks, and I'm not yet ready to take this apart! ). Now, I have finally taken the first EB RP photo shoot, and it is in the story now. The picture below is a sample picture and a link to the page: Yes, the lighting isn't all that great again I know, but it is the best I could do with no natural light and only one big lamp. Enjoy, and comments again appreciated! The second photo shoot will be the battle, which will be far more interesting than this, so look out for that later in the week! Inertia Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 Wow, I didn't see this, cool! Hey, is that me? Gah, now you've empowered me to build things out of the RPG, maybe I'll start on Eradim Keep sooner or later. Great! Quote

I was hoping you'd do well, thanks for sharing this with us.Hehe, glad to see you use the Lord Dragonator design, What are you doing in the past? Batbrick Away! Oh you know, just hanging around, plotting world domination, promoting dragon freedom and culture, and generally making other peoples business my own. The usual. Thanks for your support, I appreciate it. I'll see if I can get hold of a picture of the national winning model and post it here. That way I'll know what I need to do better next year! Wow, I didn't see this, cool! Hey, is that me? Gah, now you've empowered me to build things out of the RPG, maybe I'll start on Eradim Keep sooner or later. Great! Yes that's you, I had to make you up though as I didn't have a picture. When you do decide to post a picture of your character I will adjust accordingly. It would be nice to see some other people building some scenes. Get right on to it! Quote

Dragonator Posted May 31, 2008 Author Posted May 31, 2008 Right, as a quick update for you all, I'll be taking thisto be displayed in the Toyworld at Coastlands on the Kapiti Coast sometime on Monday afternoon. It'll be there for around two weeks, so if your at all interested, stop by and take a look. The store owner, Steve, is a mate of mine and a Lego AFOL, so if he's there he would be worth having a chat too. He also has all the latest news about when sets will be coming to NZ (including things like Green Grocer etc.). Also on a related note, the second instalment of photo's is up in the EB RP thread, so go check it out now! This lot is the start of the battle, so it will be a bit more interesting than last time. I'm going to need to take the rest of them tomorrow, after that I won't be able to for obvious reasons, so they will be put up over the next few days. Here's a teaser: Enjoy! -ator Quote
