Just saw some troubling news in Forbes:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2020/07/18/james-bond-jurassic-world-no-time-to-die-daniel-craig-matrix-keanu-reeves-godzilla-kong-box-office/

It sounds like Universal is seriously considering giving the Bond movie (which was supposed to come out in a few months) Jurassic World Dominion’s June 2021 release and pushing back Jurassic World to November 2021.

I wonder if this shift would effect the LEGO sets at all. If the movie is still coming out next year, I don’t see why they wouldn’t still release the sets. Maybe instead of a June release, they will go for a September release to more closely coincide with the movie’s promotion.

I’m not an expert on this stuff, so I wonder if anyone else on the forum has any more insight? I agree with what @Guyon2002 said recently - I would rather them have more time to get the movie right than anything else.

Besides LEGO I've spend quite a lot of my free time using and looking at the Hollywood situation and overall movies over the last couple of years so I'll give my 2 cents on this whole thing:

No Time To Die was originally scheduled to release on April 2nd 2020 but was obviously moved because of Covid-19, this delay was announced in March. During the aforementioned announcement Universal stated they would move NTTD's release to November 2020 under the assumption the world would be mostly back to normal by then. But here we are a couple of months later and the state in the world is pretty much still the same. Universal currently has 2 problems:

- The new Bond film is scheduled to release in November but besides the fact it'll miss out on some revenue because of the virus it also has some pretty major competition in the form of the new Marvel movie coming out at the same time: Black Widow.

- Jurassic World: Dominion is scheduled to release in June 2021 but as of July 2020 they are still just at the start of the whole shooting progress. A lot of time, money and undoubtedly a lot of manhours are going to be needed in order to get this film out as originally scheduled. Quality might also take a hit.

Given this whole situation and of course the fact both movies are going to be distributed by Universal leaves them in quite a tricky spot. As hard and difficult as it might be for both Bond and Jurassic fans alike the only logical thing Universal can do in this situation is move NTTD to JWD's original releasedate and give JWD a release later in the year. This gives the Bond film an opportunity to properly run it's course in theatres without any big hitters as competition and if everything goes according to plan most movietheatres in the world will be back up again. This decision would also give Jurassic World: Dominion the time they so desperately need to pull of their movie in the safest way possible. It's obvious NTTD has been finished for quite some time and it's marketing campaign had already started but regardless of the new releasedate Universal will have to invest more money into a new marketing campaign so releasing it as soon as possible with as little competition as possible is very important for the overall revenue the movie will generate. In the end whatever Universal decides will end up costing them a lot of money but moving Bond to JWD's original releasedate is definetely the option that would cost them least.

As for LEGO I don't think we should worry too much. If JWD gets delayed it'll mean a delay of at least 5 months and maybe even more than that, given how LEGO most likely doesn't have a set-in-stone releasedate for the JWD wave yet I'd say the sets will just move their release alongside the movie. That would mean the sets still release 2-3 months before the actual movie comes out so probably around August/September 2021.

At this moment this is what's happening when it comes to these movies. Nothing is set in stone of course and everything in Hollywood is constantly changing every single day but I hope this is at least informative enough and easy to follow to a certain degree

Thanks so much for the detailed and thoughtful response @Guyon2002. Really appreciate it. It’s good to have someone on the forum who is well informed and up to date on these issues. I am hoping that, no matter what Universal decides, the quality of Jurassic World Dominion doesn’t take a hit as you said. Do you follow any particular outlets for your Jurassic World updates? I’ve just been using Google News but I found this YouTube channel by Klayton Fioriti recently which is pretty good:

Klayton Fioriti is an awesome guy and his videos are great to watch if you want to dive deeper into the Jurassic lore and keep up to date with the new stuff coming out. If you want to know more about movies however I would recommend just spending a lot of time watching interviews, behind the scenes (can't recommend the BTS material from the Extended Editions of The Hobbit and LotR enough) and people like Grace Randolph from Beyond the Trailer, love her. Especially watching the BTS stuff and following Grace will help a lot but if you'd really like to take a deep dive into all things movies it's gonna take some time.

I'm going to chip in and recommend The Jurassic Park Podcast. Totally not a part of the show... :pir_laugh2::iamded_lol:

It was pretty obvious from the beginning of COVID-19 that they would have to push the movie back, at least if they don't want it to be rushed in production.

They begun filming on February 21st in Vancouver Island. They halted the production March 14th (obviously because of COVID-19). After 4 months, they resumed production again on July 10th.

With this movie being one of the biggest movies of 2021 (at least in terms of special effects, cast and animatronics), they can't just pretend like they didn't lose 4 months - they won't be able to film it, make all the special effects and finish the whole post production in 11 months, and it's even harder because of all the COVID-19 prevention and security.

Yup, obviously. But Universal was still going to aim for that june 2021 release regardless, they wanna get that $$$$$ as fast as possible :devil_laugh:

Honestly I hope they delay it, rushing it could end really bad for this movie.

What was so bad about Triceratops Rampage? That one was my favourite.

My son only plays with the Triceratops and takes the fence pieces and combines them with his other sets. The merry-go-around doesn't seem to interest him at all. I plan on doing some MODs/MOCs eventually and will break this set-up for sure. Allison is a good fit in the Dr. Wu's lab, plus the eggs and maybe top part with the Eggs. The Info/giftshop sign might go better beside the Hudson Harper/Dilpho set. I don't understand the random orange steps that lead into nothing? It's cool that there's Simon Masrani in the set.

EDIT - I also think there's some real options with the seats from the merry-go-around. Those 3 seats could be converted into a ride or maybe a seats at a jurassic world restaurant.

The ‘random orange steps’ are for the egg ride, they fit perfectly around the blue gears. (Though I put them on a baseplate for my display and they might not work so well free-standing . .)

It's not really a matter of 'it could happen' but more 'it will happen'. Fallen Kingdom was entirely made on schedule and even then the CG people had to rush their work because Universal didn't give them enough time. Not to mention what a poor job the editors did in the cutting room, they cut out so many great and even important scenes. Don't get me wrong, I still love Fallen Kingdom, but the movie we ended up getting wasn't nearly as good as the movie we could've gotten.

I know that (most likely) it will happen, but there's still a tiny chance that Universal wants to premiere it in summer that they are going to rush everything, something like they did with The Rise of Skywalker.

I was talking about Universal rushing things, not a possible delay. I can't name a single Universal movie that was entirely perfected before it went to theatres.

I agree that delaying JWD would be better overall in order to preserve the quality of the film, as hard a pill as that will be to swallow. I don’t want this to end up like JP3 with tons of production issues that destroy the potential quality

What are you talking about, the DaRk UnIvErSe was perfect beyond compare, can’t wait for their next cross-over extravaganza :laugh_hard:

Seriously though, Universal has proven to be most cautious amongst the major studios, at least when it comes to delaying their tentpol stuff. They will allegedly soon assess the viability of a second NTTD promotional campaign and if it falls through, NTTD will certainly take JW:D’s spot next summer. Nothing’s set in stone yet, but I’m mentally preparing myself for everything between now and the end of 2021 being delayed, maybe even beyond that

What date in August will Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous be releasing? I am so excited to watch it!

Yes, I’m very excited for that as well, hopefully we’ll get sets based on it with more new dinos!

Same here. I think we are almost guaranteed to get a couple kid-friendly LEGO sets based on Camp Cretaceous or possibly another season of LEGO Legends of Isla Nublar. Now that the Jurassic franchise has moved out of the parks and into the real world, I think Universal’s licensing and merchandising team will be thinking creatively for how to keep a younger audience excited and invested in the content. Camp Cretaceous is a perfect example. I imagine we will still get one or two bigger LEGO sets based on Dominion (maybe one will feature that big crashed cargo plane in the snowy Arctic that’s leaked with a bunch of dinos attacking it), but the rest will be in fun park environments. Fingers crossed, we may even get a throwback set or two from Jurassic Park. I’m praying for either the Ford Explorer with the T-Rex or the JEEP with a brachiosaurus.

It should release somewhere in mid-august I believe but I wouldn't count on it as we haven't heard anything about the show in over a year. As Dreamworks hasn't given us a releasedate they could just quietly move it to later in the year if needed. But we won't know that untill august, trailers for these shows usually air just a week before the release.

We got Bumpy in the latest lab set, I kinda doubt we'll get more CC stuff.

I don’t know, I have a feeling there will be some sets based on the series. They seem to want to keep the theme going and without a movie release, they’ll either use CC or make up random sets. Either are ok with me as long as we get some unique dinos each wave. The only minifigures I care about are ones from the films

Hmm interesting thanks I did not know that. I would be interested to see your display set-up. I'm not sure what to do with the orange steps yet but I'm almost positive im going to take apart that merry go round ride. My son doesn't use that at all. I feel like the set is missing something, why is Allison randomly there? To feed the triceratops? Did she feed any dino in the show? Why are there random eggs on the top, are they supposed to be fake eggs for the ride?

I think it could be cool to use those eggs with the baby raptors and Dr. Wu's lab as some sort of egg hatching/dino birth care center or something.

I can't believe how much I enjoyed season 1 of LoIN. It honestly made me want to buy all 4 of the 2019 sets because of the bonding time with my son from watching the show to then playing with the lego toys. I honestly felt like they missed out by not having more stuff from the show into the sets.

Other than Dr. Wu's lab, I'm kind of disappointed by the 2020 sets both on what you get and the cost. I think they should have done 2 more sets from the LoIN. Those episodes just ended in March 2020 IIRC for the United States. Could have had a set with Vic Hoskins all hopped up on Pteradon Ptea and 2-3 ACU guys in that Gallimus tank thingy trying to catch those dinos. Instead we get another Owen and Claire.

I'm not paying $30 USD for the bi-plane. I'll wait all year until that's on sale for 20-23$ on Walmart or something.
